In this episode of Bring the Pain, I decided to kick it old school and do a VGM episode. This time, I will be electing Super Castlevania IV's soundtrack into the VGM Hall of Fame. From stories to banging tunes, this episode rips from the go before we get into remixes. This was an easy selection to make as well, since Super Castlevania not only showed off what the Super Nintendo could do, but it also broke sound barriers. In the end, you'll also get a track from my next entry, which is one of the best games ever, in their respectable genre. I hope you enjoy this ride through the world of video games as we get ready to slay Dracula once again. Have a great day, everyone, and may the music be with you.

Thank you for the support and contributions all of you make for my podcasts and articles each week. Y'all the real #Painbringers!

Speaker 1 (01:21):
M m.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
M mm hm. Oh yeah, yo, everybody, it's your bib,

(02:53):
So let's get.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
To it the bark.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
As you can all see. My next entry into the
Video Game Hall of Fame is Super Castlevania four. I
couldn't think of a better game that when the Super
Nintendo came out in this game released in nineteen ninety
one by Konami. Of a better way to dedicate another
game soundtrack to an actual This was a mind bending game.

(03:31):
Not only was it just one of the best Castlevanias. Now, look,
a lot of people are gonna say Symphony of the Night.
I agree with Symphony of the Night. Symphony of the
Night is literally one of the best games ever made,
that's to say. But Super Castlevania. Now, Super Castlevania four
was an amazing masterpiece from the drums. The drums got me.

(03:54):
I talk about all this time that I had my
video game systems booked up right into my system, and
so all that boom boom boom boom boom boom boom
boom boom, like we're about to hear in our next song,
which is of course the Boss. The Boss won music
from Castlevania sixty four. We want to pop it we

(04:14):
want to get it if we want to make it happen.
O wow, man, I mean, can you can you get

(05:36):
anything better than that? So the whole beginning of this
game was amazing. You get the beginning song where you
get the freaking caterpillar whatever bug running across right, and
it goes and then you start it, and then you
get to put your name in and it's got that.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Right.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
The minute I moved that cursor and that hit hit,
I was like, oh man, and I gotta turn this
down a little bit. Dad might get a little mad.
He's got to work in the morning, right, and I'm
just sitting here trying to just live my life, just
doing my video game things.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Young but man, me and.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
My friends used to have a good talk about this game.
I remember my friend, my friend Dewan was like, bro,
he's so big. Simon Bilmont's so big. Look at the
look at the muscles in his legs when he's swinging
on the when he's got his whip stuck in those
little those little hangars and he's swinging, you can see
his his thigh muscles as his hamstrings.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
We were like, there's so much definition, man.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
But and the bosses were just fun, every one of them,
bringing back Medusa and of course Frankenstein and the Mummy
and just having this all go together. Great boards, selection,
hidden areas, the weapons selection was great. It didn't go
overpowered like like kind of what ended up happening eventually.
After Symphony on the Night, of course, you had a

(06:54):
lot of the game Boy titles. Area of Sorrow I
actually played. That was really fun. But you had a
lot of special like special abilities, and even in even
in Symphony of the Night, Simon Belmont or Richter Belmont
has a special move right.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
So for me, it's like, it's it. This game took.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
It back to where Castlevania started, and not only did
it do it, it did it better. And just the
fact you could just attack in every single way. I
know everybody says that, but you don't know how A
lot of gamers don't know how how crucial that was.
It was like, look he's a bubby whack. Look I
don't want to jump for that candle whack. Oh look,

(07:35):
I'm just gonna let my I call whip play. I
am so good at whipplay. I would just hit out right,
I would hit my whip out and then I would
let it drift back and I'd be right.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
It was like a shield for us.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Man, Like even with dragcula, I'd be like, whack, I
just knocked those fireballs away. You can't stop a great player,
especially somebody. And of course they said, you know, in
early developments of this, the whip was so powerful that
it was like why do you even use it? But man,
I'll tell you times three Cross, you get that right there,
right when the bosses come out, time it beautifully so

(08:11):
that one Cross is.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
In its head and it comes just right back.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
And man, you get past the first boss, you hear
that stuff and it takes you right into our next song,
which is Stage two, which dropped a dope ass beat,
dope beat, just a little bat bat bat bitty back
back and you're about to hear it. Oh man, I

(10:24):
mean that's just fire, right people, That's just simply fire.
But you know what's really crazy is that I gotta
really all every time I just feel that inspiration from
our local REVGM guy Martyrs, And every time I feel
like that, it always reminds me of how I love

(10:45):
to hear remixed music, and a lot of times, so
when I did.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
My Mega Man ones, the Mega Man episode.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Actually was pretty dope. It went, you know, I did
your normal metal covers and it just did that, but
it also had a technolog I went like a technical
kind of side of it too. But I'll tell you
what right now, I found this this this group, they're
called the war Machine Studios, and they did a whole
they did the whole Super Castlevania album. So real quick,

(11:16):
we'll get, we'll get. We'll give you a little a
preview of that. Look at that.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
That's that's beautiful. That's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
That's their stuff. So go go them a like and
a follow for that's and that's for everybody watching this
through the video feed. This will be on my Twitch
and everything like that as well too, But for everybody
listening to audio wise, this is gonna be something special.
So then this name is called the name of the
song is called Twisted Abominations. It's the Maniac Mansion and

(11:43):
Spinning Tower combined. This was really hard to pull some
of these songs off this album because of how how
good they were. And actually, one of the songs that
I have coming up from this artist and these artists,
it actually does a little different, a little off kind
of beat kilter, but on this song, not in this song,

(12:05):
You're definitely gonna love it.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Man, it's gonna rock it.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
And like, I just got shouted out last night with
that thing. When we know about Martyrus outing out, well,
he knows when he's got a rock in tune coming up.
And I was on the road, I was literally like, dude,
you just played a rocking episode while I was driving.
So I gotta think that. But man, I gotta definitely
think Alex Messenger. This guy is put out on that thing.
The VGM Journey channel is amazing, and every week I

(12:31):
know that Bgimania loves reading those wild posts for me,
So I gotta think, you know, being part of bed
Rolinson Brian's you know life right now, because I'm just
just dropping everything. It's just great how I can sometimes
detach from sports life, even fighting and just be able
to listen to some great music like this.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
But then you hear a song like this.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Actually, the next two songs will be by will be
by of course, the Twisted Obombinator by the War Machine Studios.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
So without further ado, let's get to it. Enjoy it.

(16:46):
Oh oh oh.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Oh, man, I know Poky one on one is gonna
be excited to hear that mix after that. Man, I
know exactly what you're talking about. Dude, I remember when
you was talking about it. You're like one of those
guys I just told, just deep into it, like me. Man,
with this Super Castlevania, Dude, I used to during that
board when it was just the Mode seven and the
rotating all that crazy stuff. Du I would just stop

(17:11):
and I would just watch it, just whind and just whind,
just to listen to this song too, because it was
just such a traumatic Again, this game's level design was
simply amazing, one of the best in all of video
game history. Graphics check, story check, easy play check, weapons check,

(17:33):
music check. Everything worked in Super Castlevania. Now onto the
next song by the War Machine Studios. Oyeah right, this
is the Waltz of the Dead. That's the name of
this song, Waltz of the Dead, and it's gonna be
the entrance hall in the chandeliers remember just say okay.

(17:55):
So for the Sandelier's song, one of my most favorite things.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
I loved it because it was a piano do.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Do do d d dun dun dun't dun dun't dun
don't don't don't do, don don't do do do, don't
down down Dun Dun Dun dunn Dun dun dun dun dun.

(18:40):
H m.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
M s.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Oh oh oh man, that's static.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
That's static.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
Man.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
That just the way both of those songs ended so nastily,
so just so like almost grunge sounding. With those it
just to me that, right there is what true gaming
is about. And just being able to further a song
and try out new things I've never discovered, the wars,

(22:39):
the war machine studios, you know, and for me that
that's that's just I mean, war machines.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Kiss, I'm a war machine, right.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
But at the same time, it was just that it
was just great to actually see this perform and learn
and find something news, find something I haven't listened.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
To because being in this VGM.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Click, I've listened to it a thousand million songs, thousands
of hours of all of their mut of all their
their episodes and my own episodes, and that's the first
time I ever ran across them. So I'm really excited
that I was able to actually feature them. But as
we're moving along to the aim and get this crazy
little thing, and let's just play it where it's the

(23:22):
ninth board right now, at the stage we've been through
most of the game. It's building up and we're gonna
get to the treasure room. Hey, this song got a
little funky beat and I couldn't let it go. Let's
get to it.

Speaker 7 (23:35):
Yeah it.

Speaker 8 (25:01):
In good dude, That that right, I'll mean, come on, man,

(26:47):
like whoa.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
All right? Like this is just where this game was
simply just awesome.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
A whole room just gold and when you're jumping on
the treasure chestlin like kin pink dingdingding think and you
can get like if you jumped on it enough, it
would just make it a bitter explosion and the bat
and hit the bat that the gold coins would fly out. Man,
there's so much shenanigans going on in this game. It
was great.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
And there wasn't a lot of slow down.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Man, we were this game just moved and of course
it had knocked back and this board could be cold.
Get you for some knockback because you know, those little
gold edges would get you a little ear weird and
you'd be like, oh man, what's going on? Man?

Speaker 4 (27:29):
But that was it.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
But when Punky one oh one was talking about like
that when he did first did a VGM episode and
he had to feature a song from the soundtrack.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
It just shows that. And there's so many more.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
I've talked to so many different people in this subsolutely
discord for the VGM journey.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
It just to me was just what everything needed.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
But you know what you need another song, and that
song is a bad ass song that just rips from
the goat the kettles go And you knew when you
heard the.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Boss two songs that that business was picking up.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Oh yeah, oh yeah. And so you're sitting here playing
this game and you're just feeling fresh, and me and
my buddies are all kind of get especially my buddies
want So everybody knows that I've played video games a
lot of my like John P. John z Day, my
DJ Chaos, the guy who made my Bring to Pay music,
and I've played these games with so many different other people,

(30:06):
screw back with like all these people. But DWARM was
always there for like the really hard games like Memorial
sixty four when we won twenty that we sat there
one night in one twenty that whole place, that whole game,
and we didn't we didn't have any like back then
we didn't have like all the guides, you had to
have the guide.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Me and him just did it.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
We were that good. I've always loved the way like
he was by like one A and one B, me
and him together. When we played two player games like
jack O super Ce Contract three, the Alien Wars got
brought up. Yeah, you know when some said Contract three
Alien Wars was a hard game, it's right because you
had to beat it on hard. You had three continues

(30:46):
and there was two of you. You had to play good.
You had to be able to just try to get
extra lives and stay alive with just that many can
that many continues? Right, and because that game you the
best ending. That was kind of like a one little
stage in Konami's life where they were like you had
to beat the game on hard to get the best ending, and.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
You had to go through so much more bullshit too.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
You had to shoot like twelve different eye stages, you know,
when you fight the last boss and you can choose
kind of what it's getting and then sometimes you get
the free one.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Well, man, that thing was going so fast, right, but
we got called out in the party.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
I've said before when I bring up that we got
called out in a party.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
They literally said, we couldn't beat that, Like he didn't
look at each other. We were like, we beat it
all the time.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
You guys are friends.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
We talked about it. They're like, we never believed you.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Oh well guess what. Yeah, that got torched, torched in
front of that whole party, because that's what real things
did do.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
We just lay it down. Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
But man, when you made it to A one and
you heard this song, I knew that. I knew that.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
Everything had just gone out of it. I mean the windows.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
I can't even talk right because I was like, ho,
we clapped, he remixed bloody tears. I was like, you know, yeah,

(34:08):
thank you, thank you. It was so like melodic.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
It was do do do Do Do Do Do Do Do.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
But then like you got to the next board and
you were like, wait a minute, did they just did
they just make this all like ditty white, kind of cool,
kind of just awesome wow, whoa wa wow? I mean

(37:22):
come on man. Of course that was Vampire Killer, the
first song of that little block I did. And then
of course that was stage B beginning B two when
they played the third Draculus person Castlevania three Draculus Curse song.
I can't believe I just messed out up. What is

(37:43):
going on? They're like sometimes you just hear these songs
and you're just like, yep, yep, I love that.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
I love that song.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
It's awesome. So we're gonna actually take this back into
another remix.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
I didn't want to just keep going.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
I put a nice big block together of the actual
game's original music showing off the actual tools. One of
my favorite songs on this album, or on this soundtrack,
whatever you want to call, is Room of Close Associates.
When I first stepped in an Indy and I heard
that no no no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no no no

(38:17):
no no no no no no no, I was like,
oh wow, wow, that couldn't be that.

Speaker 4 (38:25):
That's just how can you all do that?

Speaker 2 (38:28):
So Mertin VG Metal decided to make a cover of this,
and it's completely one of those rocking tunes. If you
read the comments, it's going straight to the gym list.
Everybody just bop the bop bop this song. I mean,
right now with this is the eleventh song of this episode.

(38:49):
I'm so excited. Hopefully taking you on this journey walking
through Super Castlevania, for talking about a few memories, and
just I can pick this game up.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
I literally have it on my Twitch.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
I don't know if it still safe, but I literally
beat the game in like fifty one minutes, which is
one of those things, but it only inspires people like
me and other people like Merton MVG Metal to make
beautiful songs like.

Speaker 9 (39:15):
This, back.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Back, back, back.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
Back back.

Speaker 6 (41:19):
At that rate.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
There true gold, true everything that you want, everything that
you could think of, everything that you want. In this game,
you get to Dracula, you beat them. It's practically like
the first one. You have a great time, you get
your ending. It looks great, and that's how we're going
to do it. I'm going to end this episode with

(42:59):
after the good Fight, I'm going back to war Machine Studios.
I thought that going back to war Machine Studios only
just made sense because I heard this song and I
went through a ton a piano cover, a symphonic cover,
a synthesis cover, a nineties cover. I did so many
different covers of this song.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
I just did.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
I was just one of those things where I was like, look,
I'm just all in. I'm sold on it that and
I went back to this one, and I thought that
this song, this particular version done by war Machine Studios,
gave the best interpretation of the song with every aspect
that I was looking for, both the softness of the
song also the actual hardness of it as well too.

(43:44):
And it's been a great episode. I've been really excited,
really jacked up. Hopefully everybody was really really loved the
music selection that I got. Did I miss one? Did
I overdo it? Did I maybe cheat a little bit
with those two songs that kind of combined to and
I went a little pass given the bigs doesn't I
don't know if there's a VGM override on this one.
We'll have to check in with mister Macho Man soon.

(44:06):
But that being said, again, I want to give thanks
to everybody who has listened to this entire episode. This
entire time has given me a chance to show why
I feel why Super Castlevania four deserves to be in
the VGM.

Speaker 4 (44:24):
Hall of Fame. Thank you and enjoy.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
After the good fight by war Machine Studios, oo.

Speaker 4 (49:55):
Amazing, amazing.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
So I know that that wasn't say anything I say extraordinary,
and maybe I played it a little safe but I
wanted to also kind of go back to where I
was trying to get off of that heaviness. I wanted
to take you through that heavy part of the game,

(50:20):
bring you back in, give you a little bit of
that room of close associates, which I thought was a
nice and then kind of ended it. And I thought
that that piano at the end was the key, was
the key to show that it was after the good fight.
I hope everybody loved all twelve of these songs, and

(50:41):
I know that a lot of people are wondering what
soundtrack could possibly be next.

Speaker 4 (50:50):
Well, it's a game.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
It's a game that a lot of people love, a
game that has a lot of rocking music in a
game that was on the three too. When it hit
the three D zero, it added this superbar, It added
extra kicks, different animations, different powers. People Some still say
that I Honda was kind of overpowered.

Speaker 4 (51:11):
But wait, man, what's good? Ooh, we're not talking about
anything right now, Heat Override. It's about that time for
the veg a move ride.

Speaker 2 (51:22):
Ooh that's right, people, you're getting my next one, just
like you got it.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
I want to say thank you to everybody that lasted
this entire time. Keep say in it.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
Man.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
You know I've got other games coming out.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
I already have this whole list alreagether that's what I
was getting at. But I can tell you this right now,
This song right here is made by Toxic Eternity, so
all of you already know it's rocking and there's no
other way. He's still my favorite, Heather favorite player. It's
Ken and in a straight fighter too. The three D

(51:57):
zero version will be featured.

Speaker 4 (51:59):
And this it's how you goin to bird.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Oh yeah, I'm a great everybody to thank.

Speaker 10 (52:08):
You in the next.

Speaker 4 (54:31):
Always remember to bring the book.
