Since the announcement by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) on September 13, 2011, of the discovery of Achatina fulica, commonly known as the giant African land snail (GALS), the FDACS in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have actively participated in the eradication efforts of this pest. GALS can have a negative impact on Florida’s economy and its resident’s health.
