Speaker 1 (00:00):
Attention please, and no it Cutters rock cast what it
is due.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It was your profile picture, like I saw my screen
flash and it was just you go. I'm could you
whoam Lee's excited this morning?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
All right? Good? Me too?

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Good?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Good good? No, I am actually excited. It'll be uh.
I'm excited to be here. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're very welcome. Lee, Jenny's from the funeral portrait coming
back on the cutting. That's countdown and Cutters road casts.
It's we're recording this early in the morning, so thank
you for doing that.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Man. It's it's it's in fifteen here. Okay, oh you're
getting never mind, get never mind. But yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
We literally leave for our European tour tomorrow so evening,
and I've been like checking like how much the differences
and time zones and stuff, and I'm like, oh, no,
this is going to be wild.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
It's weird, right were you what are you heading to? First?
I mean, by the time people that will already happen,
but just in case.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, So we're starting the tour in Germany, so there's
like half of the tours basically in Germany, and then
we're hitting like every town, city, restaurant, whatever, whatever, the
hell you can in Germany on this tour, which is
great because we've never hit Germany before. So the only
thing that we've ever done outside of Canada and the

(01:23):
US is we played download Fest in the UK.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh yeah, that was kind of it. So just a
big festival to play.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
That was a good one, yes, Of all the things
you could have done, that was a good one.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yes. And it was the it was the day that
sleep Token like headlined, so it was that big.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Everybody was like pissed off or the hoodlining, and then
you go and see the crowd and you're like, that's
why they're headlinings.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, the sleep Token thing is so wild. That's another
conversation for another time, but it's good for ar. This
is the argument I've made to people who don't get
sleep Token, Like I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
My son introduced them.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
My twenty year old son introduced me to sleep Token
okay years ago, and I like, I went and saw them.
I was hosting a nothing More show and I'm like
they're opening for nothing More. I'm like, okay, okay, And
that was a it was a place that held two
thousand people and now they're headlining and selling out these
giant arenas and headlining download fasts and stuff. And I'm like,
here's the thing. That band is good for heavy music.

(02:18):
I don't care whether you like them or not. They
are good for heavy music because it has brought eyeballs
to bands like them, bands like The Funeral Portrait as
an example, and we can all kind of reap the.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Rewards a little.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, that's one thousand percent what it's about, though, And
that's why even if it's not for you, that's fine.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
You don't have to hate on it though.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
But people love to be haters, especially in our world,
you know, yes, you.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Know what I mean. And they love to.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Twist and turn and do you know, make their own
narratives for every single thing that happens in a band
or whatever. And it's hard because like being in a
band is so hard, you know, doing what we do
is so hard. You know, most other genres of music,
it's just the singer. It's just the one person, right,

(03:05):
you know what I mean. And think about it as
a band, it's a band. It's a lot of uh,
it's a lot of people getting in a room to
you know, put differences aside or to create stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
And it's like people don't realize what is what it
takes to do the band thing, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
And and so people are so quick to be like, oh,
well they sound like this.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
I hate them.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
And it's like no, no, no, no, that's great that they
sound like that because it has brought in so many eyes.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Absolutely, And that's the thing about music. Music is subjective, right.
It doesn't matter if you lee, I'm sure there's a
band that you absolutely love that I can't stand, and
vice versa, and that's okay, And that's okay.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yep, but that's okay because well, that's that's music, that's
life in general, right, And I think about a lot
of people.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
They have to make sure everybody fits in their little box. Right.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
So many people draw like a little box and they're like,
if you don't fit inside this box, I don't want
anything to do with you, right.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
And I'm not.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Talking about politics or I'm not talking about like the
way you believe or whatever it is. I'm thinking just
even as simple as the music right that they listen to.
They're like, oh, you like sleep token, then I don't
want to associate with you. I don't want anything to
do with you, you know. And it's like, whoa bro Like,
it's it's not that deep.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
That used to be that way with Marilyn Manson, who
of course you just got off the.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Road with Yes, yeah, yeah. So we toured with them
last year and that was crazy. We did some more
dates this year with them, and I think that's that's
part of it, right, is I think, uh, I think
a lot of people just think about like you know
Manson or even five Finger, who we've toured with. You know,
We've we've toured with a lot of polarizing people, and
I'm We're gonna keep doing that because like, that's what

(04:52):
especially us as a band, we've found is our calling.
You know, we're almost polarizing at times too. And I
know that, I know that we have people that are like, oh,
the funeral portrait gross, gross, But that's fine, That's what
I want, really, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Because I actually personally haven't haven't seen a lot of that. Now,
I will be one hundred percent honest with you. In
the last few months, I've kind of removed myself from
the social media world other than promoting these conversations. My
podcast Cutters road cast the radio show cutting his Countdown
in my morning radio show mornings is literally and cutter otherwise.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
So you just like, I'm just kind of like jobs. Yeah, yeah,
I mean, I don't blame you. I don't blame you
for that. But at the same time, it sounds like
you have seven full time jobs.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Eight actually but yeah, okay, good, there we go.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
No, No, actually, no, it is down to seven because
I'm not currently playing in a band. If I was
currently playing my guitar and a band on stage, which
I add to it, you know, and I was doing
the cover band thing for a while.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
You know, that's a that's a grind, Dude, that is
a grind.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
I'm sure, I'm sure it is. I mean, hey, you
do what you gotta do. But no, I think what
it is is with us. You know, we're not everybody's
cup of tea, but that's what we want to do, especially.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
For like rock radio, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Like we're a little different, like we're a little the
same because we have songs like holy Water, right, that's
a little bit more quote down the middle rock. Right.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Before you go any further on that, I want to
say this because I'm glad you bring this up, because
holy Water is a great example of this.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
To me.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
But as I'm listening to now the deluxe edition of
Welcome to Suffocate City, I'm listening to Holy Water and
other songs too. Even Dark Thoughts has some of that.
The current single, of course, there's a almost a gospel
feel to your lyrics and to your words, and then
you get somebody like like Danny Worsnop Guesting or even

(06:45):
I even or whoever, and there is a I don't know,
there's like a choir. There's like a gospel feel to
some of that, and I love it. I don't know
what it is, but it hits me the right way.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I mean that was kind of on purpose too, you know,
from being I'm here in Atlanta, George right now, and
I think from being from the South. It was something
that I really wanted to do to kind of bring
that vibe more. And I think when we work on
new music, not that it would be more like that,
but you know, I think it's just part of who
we are, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
I think it's also my voice.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
You know, I grew up singing in choirs, not just
church choir, my my high school choir or my I mean,
I started singing when I was in elementary school. You know,
and every time I could go sing, I would go
sing because I figured that was like my thing right
growing up.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
And so now I get to do my thing for
a living, which is kind of.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Crazy, which is like really crazy, but it's still it's
one of those things that it's like, I don't know,
we we never on purposely purposely did that besides maybe
Holy Water, but even then, it was just like it
just kind of came out of my years spent growing
up in the South.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Nice all right.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I'm not surprised to learn about the choir thing, because again.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, I'm a musical theater. I mean that was what
it is.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
I mean, my daughter's doing that right now. She's in
she's in ten different choirs and like in musicals next weekend,
you know, so in the doing Adams Family, which I'm
very excited about. But you can hear it in some
of your voice because you again not just the gospel thing,
but just the way your voice phrases within the music

(08:22):
and that so if you say, you know, funeral portrait,
rock radio stuff or whatever, I'm going to say, no,
listen closer, because there's some things going on in your
music that and how you're like sitting down and really
listening to it. I don't know if you hear, but
there are some stuff going on in the melodies and
things like that that other bands aren't doing.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, well, and that was on purpose, right, And I think,
you know, going forward with stuff that we want to
work on and stuff that we want to do for
the next record, because I mean we've been touring off
this record for a little over a year, a year,
in year and a half, a few months, right, yeah,
and you know, we still haven't really sat down and

(09:01):
really really started working on new stuff. But like I think,
for us, where do you take it? What do you do?

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Do you just do the same thing again, because it's
like working.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
And the issue is is like music is like different,
the way we can consume music is different now, the
way people than your favorite bands used to think. Right.
So our favorite bands, you know, at least my favorite
bands growing up, would release a record every four years,
every three years, something like that, tops tops every two years, right, right,

(09:34):
And that's that's a lot like even the two year
especially back then. But it was really because they would
be grinding, grinding, grinding, grinding on the road, and that's
what we've been doing.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
This past year. This year, we've been out.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
By the end of this year, we've been out on
tour for two hundred and ninety days and it's been crazy.
It's been tough, it's been wild. We've by the end
of this everywhere that you can basically go, you know, besites.
We haven't hit we haven't hit Japan or Australia yet,

(10:08):
but I think, you know, hopefully next year maybe we'll
bring us that.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, so wild, that's amazing. There's a lot of days
to be on the road constantly, there's no doubt. But
like you said, I mean, you're you gotta get out
and do the grind. Suffocate City, Welcome to Suffocate Cities
the album. Then there's the the Lux edition of the album.
And now there's a live from Suffocate City coming Yes,
Ingreetings from Suffocate I remember the exact wording you guys used,

(10:34):
But there's a live record coming anyway.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
There is there is.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
There's a live record coming out, and basically it's like
live from Suffocate City, you know, esally like super fun
you know, a special performance or whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I think with it is, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
We last year we decided to throw like a big
hometown show in Atlanta, right.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
And it's funny because I'm.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
The only one that's in the band that's from Atlanta.
Everyone else is from all over the place. You know.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
We have some people from up St.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
New York, we have some people from Saint Louis, we
have people from everywhere, right, And with it, you know,
we were like, well, Atlanta's still home base. It's where
everybody joins before going on tour. So where everybody's flying in, right,
you know today before we go fly in tomorrow, go
fly out tomorrow from Atlanta. So we were like, let's
throw a hometown show through hometown show and we called it,
you know, Suffocate City town Hall Meeting, right, because you know,

(11:31):
Suba Kate City technically became like a real place in
our lore and all this stuff. We have lore and
we've got all these things, these icons and stuff.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
So we were like, let's just throw a show. We
threw a show.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
And it was funny because when our booking agent started
booking the show, I was like, Okay, well, I want
to do it in the three hundred cap venue because
like I wanted to sell out or get close to
selling out, right, And he was like, oh, all they
have because it's a venue here in Atlanta called the Masquade,
and they've got like four different size rooms and it
basically it's super funny because it's Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, and Altar, right,

(12:05):
and those are the size rooms.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Heaven is the one thy four hundred cap room.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Hell is the six hundred and fifty cap room, and
Purgatory is like three hundred and Altar is two hundred
and fifty. So I really wanted to Purgatory. Our agent
comes back and he's like, they only have Hell available,
and I was like, oh man, it's gonna look weird
when there's two hundred people in this six hundred and
fifty cap venue.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
Right, Well, we put tickets on.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Sale, and all of a sudden, we sell two hundred
and fifty tickets in twenty four hours, and I'm.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Like, oh wait a second, this is something. This is
kind of weird.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
And then it keeps growing and keeps growing, keeps growing,
and then about two weeks before the show it sells
out and I'm like, no way, you know, like.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Like this is crazy. It's like a crazy moment.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
So eventually we played out the show and you know,
add more spice to it. I was like, let's film
it for a live slash CD. And that's what we're
doing is so we're releasing a vinyl copy where released CD,
we're releasing blu ray of the whole performance.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
And it sounds awesome. I like love the way it sounds, you.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Know, Getting people, you know, our super fans are excited.
Getting the everyday person excited for it is the different thing, though,
and that's something that I'm sure a lot of bands
have always seen their like live records don't quote maybe
do as much, but I think there's also some live
records that do.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Do great, you know. But I think for us, it's
something for the super fans.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
It's something for the actual members of what we call
the Coffin crew to be there, and especially the people
that were there, the six hundred and fifty fans that
were there, to have something to remember for the rest
of their lives. And you know, if they watch the DVD,
they can probably see themselves.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
So and that's pretty cool. Live from Suffocate City. There's
a song out from it now called Voodoo Doll Yes,
obviously a song from the album Ingredients from Suffocate City
Now on the new live album Live from Suffocate City.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I just like doing it.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
It's like here, here's the you know, like the old school,
like you know, this radio station used to be classic rock,
the one I do in the morning show on now.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
It's kind of everything.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
But you know, you'd make the joke it's Bad Company
from Bad Company, by Bad Company.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
You know.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
There's Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. From Black Sabbath, you
know is welcome it's the song Welcome to Suffocate City
from the album Welcome to Suffocate City by the Funeral Portrait.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
It doesn't quite work.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
But.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Maybe I'll change the name. You knowa city. Okay, there
we go.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
No, no, no, you got to go. You gotta go someplace else. Next,
you got to go to the whole country a planet.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I don't know what you're what the next plan is
for the Funeral Portrait, but I can tell you this
we're looking forward to because it's been a hell of
a good ride so far.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Thank you, it's been it's been crazy. It's been NonStop.
It's gonna be keep going NonStop. You know, we're announcing
a shot. I don't know when this is going live.
This tour might be announced as we are extantly sitting
next week. Okay, well, then the tour will definitely be announced.
So we're about to announce probably our craziest tour for
next year, which is really cool. It's split up in

(15:09):
two legs, which is kind of cool, something different for us,
one at the beginning of the year and one at
the end, and you know, we'll just kind of see
where it goes.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
All right, Well, you have to trust me, and I'm
not going to say anything until then. Honestly, I'm too
damn busy to even do it anyway.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
But what is it? So it's three days Grace and
I prevail.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Ah, so I had yeah, yep, I'm sure yep.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
So yeah, so it's three days Grace, I prevailing.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Now again, if anybody's hearing this and that tour has
already been analysis and you're like, well, how did you
not know, jack ass, I'm like, because we're recording this
on a Friday morning, right before you guys had to Europe,
because we wanted to get this in before you guys
had to Europe.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
But that's amazing. So three days Grace, I prevail on
funeral portrait yep, which is crazy to think about. That's good.
It's really crazy bringing to your game. Son.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
I know.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well, that's the thing is I'm never worried. And it's
weird because that's the thing that I live for, live
for the show, I live for the performance. I live
for everything that we do, you know, And I think
for us, we just it's our time to keep this
going right.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
And I think, you know, music in general, it's about
the build, right, It's about the climb. And this band,
I feel like with every tour that we do, everything
we release, it's climbing. It's climbing. It's climbing, and that's
what we're going to continue to do.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Going in the right direction is all you can ever do.
Lee Jenny.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
It's from the funeral portrait. Dude, it's always a pleasure
seeing you. Good luck in Europe and I'm sure we'll
catch you on the road when you come back.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
On the tour.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Oh yes, we'll see way, my friend. You know what,
I didn't ask when's the live album actually out?

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Oh yeah, it comes out January sixteenth, the day that
we do are new our second it's now second annual
you know, Suffocate City Town Hall meeting and it's in
Atlanta and we're doing two nights. This time, we're doing
an acoustics show the first night and then we're doing
a big show the second night. We moved it up
to Heaven and it's selling kind of crazy. I'm kind

(17:12):
of surprised. Not maybe, but I'm just like, this is
wild that we're able to do what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
All right, Well, my wife's best friend works works on
TV news in Atlanta, So I'm gonna text her and
be like, we're staying at your house that week and
we're coming.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
Yes, do it. Come hang, I got tickets for you.
Just let me know. I love at least it's a
pleasure to see you in my friend. All right, my friend,
I'll see you soon.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
