let's about food, because this story, it's shocking and frankly,
it's way too relevant for the average American household. We're
talking about a large European cohort study found that people
whose diets were made up of more than thirty percent
ultra processed foods had a forty percent higher risk of
memory impairment before the age of sixty, and that should

stop most of us in our tracks. We're not talking
about the occasional bag of chips or a frozen pizza
on a busy Friday night. We're talking about this steady
pattern of packaged snacks and sugary cereals in these industrial breads,
fast food, the convenient meals. This dominates most of our plates.

In these products, they're designed to be hyper palatable, in
shelf stable, and they're very hard to stop eating. But
your brain pays a price for that convenience. If you
think of ultraprocessed foods like the static in the wiring
of your nervous system, they don't just add the calories,

starting to digest a call that came in from Al
in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and let's go ahead and have

me get Oh geez, what do they call it? It's
like when they stick needles in you, only they stuck
in little chunks of gold in my ears. And I

I have absolutely no pain.

heard of this.

to dive a little bit deeper into what you experienced.
So Al told us that during a visit to the VA,

you're spending this hour with us. We've been diving deep
into the world of longevity and metabolic health today and
the energy in our studio is high and we're trying
to keep it that way without the sugar crash. And
speaking of sugar crashes, we have a great question from

one of our listeners. Kel Kel writes in with a
problem that it's a violent epidemic in this entire country.
Kel asks what is the best way to quickly reduce
spiking your blood glucose after it occurs? And Kel was say,
thanks for this question. We've all been there. You think
you're making a healthy choice, or maybe you've decided that

you're enjoying that extra slice of a birthday cake, and
then suddenly you feel it. You feel like that brain
fog and the fatigue in that internal alarm bell that
goes off that's telling that your blood sugar is currently
performing this vertical climb and it seems like it's climbing
Mount Everest. And before we dive into that fire extinguisher

method to put out that glucose fire, let's look at
the reality I want you to know that eighty eight
percent of Americans are considered metabolically unhealthy, and that's a
huge statistic. Most of us are walking around with blood
sugar levels that resemble a rollercoaster more so than a
steady stream like we want. And when the spike happens,

we're not just having this temporary inconvenience. It's a direct
assault on your cellular longevity. So let's talk about how
to ground the fire and just have a cruising, steady stream.
So if you've you've checked your monitor, or you feel
like this familiar postcarb thump in your chest, the absolute

best thing that you can do is to move. And
I'm not talking about hitting a personal best on a
bench press or running a five K. I'm talking about
a simple, brisk, ten to fifteen minute walk. So think
of your muscles as this giant metabolic sponge. When you
engage in light physical activity, your muscles are requiring energy,

so you don't have to wait for that slow mail
of insulin to unlock the doors. This movement opens up
the pathways and it sucks in that excess glucose out
of your bloodstream and it burns it for fuel. It's
the most natural, effective and immediate way to blunt a
blood sugar spike. So I tell my patients all the time,
a ten minute walk after a meal is worth an

hour in the gym later. So if you're stuck in
an office, walk the stairs, if you're at home, pace
while you're on your phone, all you got to do
is move. Your longevity depends on your muscles ability to
go ahead and get that glucose level where it should be.
So the next step to manage a spike is often

overlooked as well, and that is hydration. So when your
blood sugar is high, your blood ineffectively becomes more like
maple syrup than it does water. It's thick, it's sticky,
and it's hard on your kidneys. And by drinking a
large glass or two of filtered water, you're helping your
body dilute that excess sugar and it assists your kidneys

in filtering at it through your urine, so proper fluid.
That balance is the grease of your metabolic engine. Without it,
your metabolic phoneunction grinds to screeching halt. So reach for
a diet soda. That's just more chemical confusion for your body.

something's off. Her right foot looks smaller than her left.
You shrug it off as this trick of light. But
over the next five months, the trick of the light
turns into a living nightmare. And we're talking about the

reality of a girl named Valerie and her family and
I to ho and Valerie was a vibrant she was
an active little girl until one month that started to
roll around something that her parents were noticing over time.
It started with a simple complaint of leg pain, the
kind of thing that we usually dismiss as growing pains
