Welcome to just Mind of my business Media, and today
I am excited to bring to you Nancy Griffith, who
is a connector and launcer. She attributes her success to
personal carriage, determination, enjoying on women's health and wellness, which

(02:03):
led her to establishing her company, Women Worth and Wellness. Wow, Nancy, welcome,
Thank you, Ida, I'm delighted to be here. I'm delighted
to have you. So tell us what Women's Worth and
Wellness is all about.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Okay, It's all about women's health and wealth, net worth
and self worth, philanthropy and legacy planning. So it's a
very holistic brand that has us coming into that brand
wherever we're at. I was a wealth advisor and as

(02:41):
I worked with my clients, mostly women, I found that
they had a disproportionate amount of responsibility looking after their
family's health and wellness. It's like every mom is expected
to be a nurse practitioner.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
True.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
So that's when I started to focus on health before
we got into wealth.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
And what I did.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Was I partnered with a lot of not for profit
health related organizations that focused on women's health, and I
would host different events. For example, in Toronto, we have
a fabulous hospital called Women's College Hospital, over one hundred
years old. Course everything they do is directed towards women's
health and wellness. And when I would host these events,

(03:22):
I would charge my clients and their friends a nominal
amount twenty five or fifty dollars, so they would start
to see that as a deduction from their tax return,
which shows how it enhances your bottom line and your
net worth by sharing and giving. And of course we
know once you're in a situation where you can give

(03:43):
or you can share, more often than not, the person
who receives the most is the person who's given the gift,
So that enhances your self worth. And I established it
nineteen ninety four, so this year's thirty one years old,
and now women are earn need more than they've ever
earned before. But more importantly, they're starting to inherit, so

(04:05):
they're stewarding incredible amounts of wealth. And that's where the
whole philanthropy and legacy planning comes into play.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Yes, wow, that's so important. So let's talk a little
bit about the wellness shop because one of the like
you said, we are nurse practitioners. You know, we have
so many hats that we wear as women, but for
some reason, we don't always apply that to ourselves. Right, So,

(04:39):
what are some of the things that you encourage women
to do to take.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Care of their health. Well, number one, realize that you're
the number one asset. And we know that when we fly,
they tell us to put the oxygen on ourselves first.
But what I say is, okay, put the oxygen on
yourself first. But now what like, now you're in a
position of strength, so now you're able to help others

(05:04):
and give back. I emphasize consistently that women need to
realize that they are the number one asset. Never apologize,
be selfish, look after yourself. Every morning when you wake up,
you just say, okay, what are my priorities today? To
look after me first, and then we go on from there.

(05:25):
Often women don't feel they're worthy, they don't feel that
they've got the right to be selfish, And I just say,
forget it. You've got every right to look after yourself
so you can be the best that you can be.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
You're so right, because the way I see it, health
is wealth.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
You definitely corned it in what you're doing. And you know,
the first thing in the morning, it's all about meditation
because the mind, body and soul is connected and it
has to be in some.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Time in alarmment exactly. And just taking that five minutes
over your coffee before you know you're focused on your
family or your business, whatever, just take five minutes for yourself.
How am I doing? How can I be the best today?
Making sure that health is the priority, because we take
our bodies for granted. We just get up and go

(06:22):
and we go until something stops us. So that's why
we need to be ever conscious of this whole body
that is carrying us around and taking us forward and
helping us do all the things that we want to do.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Absolutely, So, how do women get involved with your organization?
Because I think that what you do is critical to
say the least.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Well, we do a lot of online events, so they
can send me an email, which means it goes into
our database and then you'll be informed about anything we're
up to. And my email is very simply Nancy at
Womenworthwellness dot com Nancy Womenworthwllness dot com. And we often

(07:04):
have lots of different guest speakers talking about various and
sundry things. One of the areas that we're taking a
look at doing some things on is women's age of integrity.
We often look back at all the women who made
significant change in their lifetime, and so my question is,
what are each of us doing to make sure that

(07:25):
we're helping create a better future, not just for ourselves
but for many, many, many others.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Absolutely, because at the end of the day, it's all
about humanity, correct, and giving, making somebody's life better than
it was yesterday. Correct, And that's my mo too. You
know I'm not bringing something valuable to help somebody propel
their life, then what must be right?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Exactly? What's the point?

Speaker 2 (07:59):
But sure?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Wow, So now we've covered a little bit of the
house side, let's talk about the wealth side.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Okay, all right, Well, people say, well, what if I
don't have any money, Well, you've got some money. You
wouldn't be surviving if you didn't have some money. If
you've got a job, you've got income, and always that income,
we would always love to have more. But making the
most of what you have is the starting point. And

(08:30):
if you haven't worked with anybody, if you don't have
a wealth advisor, people often say, well, how can I begin.
Every just about everybody has a bank account, which means
you've got a relationship with a bank. Maybe it's just
online only, but every bank has a whole suite of
advisors who can help their clients with their whole wealth

(08:53):
scenario getting started with just you know, setting aside a
little bit every month, or if you you've got lots
of money, if you've just inherited a lot of money,
then again, make contact with that bank because they have
advisors that have a whole range of service levels to
their clients. And the most important thing is that they

(09:15):
want your business, they want to look after you, and
in order to be in those roles, they need to
have credentials and they need to have experience, because no
bank wants their employee not to do a good job.
So I often say, don't try to do your own
dental work. I don't think even dentists do their own
dental work. So work with a professional advisor to help you.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yes, absolutely absolutely, And you know understanding education, you know
right understanding what's available to you, both traditional to me
and non traditional, because there's a lot of things out
the lot of businesses that think outside the box and

(10:00):
have some really good ways of investing and building upon
what you already had.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Correct and don't. I mean it's going back to you
have every right to ask whatever questions you need answers to.
And often women don't ask questions because in asking the question,
it shows what you don't know. Well, so what that's
why you're asking a question, and expect that person to

(10:30):
answer your question. And if they don't treat you with respect,
if they give you a you know, well, you know
that's very simple something like that, you're not working with
the right person. You want to work with somebody who
excuse me, who will answer your questions and who will
treat you with respect.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Absolutely absolutely, And I mean to me, asking questions means
you just need to know correct period. There's no wrong,
no question, no.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
And the more questions you ask, the more you learn,
The more you learn, the more questions you have. So
get right in the middle of it and just know
you've got a right to sit at the table and
ask those questions and expect them to answer them suitably.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Absolutely absolutely so. In your organization, in terms of the
wealth side, do you what kind of things do you
do with the women to advocate this type of mindset
that we're talking about.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Okay, well, when I had my practice with clients, Now
I don't have clients anymore. I just have my women
worth and well women worth and wellness doing various events
online and in person. But just building on what we
just said is you've got every right to build a
wealth scenario that is going to enhance your current living today.

(11:57):
But more importantly equally important is as you go forward.
The best time to make the future better for you
is to start today. And I really emphasize that when
you're working with a wealth advisor, make sure that in
your overall financial plan that they will put together for you,
they have anticipated health related challenges and have built that

(12:21):
into the plan. You know, people say, well in case
something would happen, Well, you know what, something will happen,
and you never wanted to be the day after when
you knew you should have done something about it. You know,
the critical illness can happen, the disability of premature death,
all those sorts of things a wealth advisor will talk
to you about and say, Okay, what if this happens,

(12:44):
how are we going to look after that?

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Yes? Absolutely, And then even after that conversation, because what
happens once you start getting into the and gritty of everything,
more questions come up.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Correct yep. And and have regular reviews, you know, once
you've got an established relationship, then have regular reviews with
that person. And now with Zoom it is so easy.
You know, you don't have to get in your car
and find a parking place and go through traffic and
forget it. You know, you can do it so easily
online now that there's no excuse for not doing regular reviews.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
True, very true, And and be okay with that. Right,
that's empowering. It is able to you know, manage your money,
and it's.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Just empowering period exactly.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
It hasn't been so long ago where women didn't have
that right.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Right, No, I know awful. You know, women didn't work,
they didn't have their own money, and they didn't have
the power to move forward that with this sort of
an opportunity, you were just you were just at somebody
else's mercy. But no more, no more. And even if
you're in a relationship with a partner, well that partner

(14:03):
still wants to do most of the work. Get involved.
Get involved. You've got a vested interest in knowing what's
going on, because if you're in a partnership with a male,
your life expectancy is longer than that person's, and so
you're going to be on your own at some point,
and so make sure you're educating yourself sooner rather than later.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Absolutely, And like you just said, participate, right, just take
their word for anything.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
No, right, right, right, right, right, you know, let me
see exactly.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
No, I was.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
We had a friend staying with us a couple of
months ago, and she goes away in the wintertime. And
so she said, Nancy, I've got a zoom scheduled with
my advisor, and I know him and I know her well.
And she said, I would really like you to listen in.
I just want to have that second opinion. He won't
know the you're there, but I just want to have
that reassurance. I said, okay, I'm happy to anyway away

(15:06):
we go. And of course she's she doesn't want to
be bothered. She just wants her monthly from her retirement
portfolio in her retirement and when she hears the news
and she hears that the market's gone way up or
gone way down, she doesn't want to be bothered. She
wants to know that she's in good hands. Anyway. He said,
look at any given point in time, I've set aside

(15:28):
three years worth of monthly incomes. So in other words,
you don't have to worry about anything for three years,
and that's on an ongoing basis. Every month he makes
sure that it's three years from that month, and then
he starts to talk to her about her You know,
we have retirement portfolios, and then we have simple investment
portfolios outside your four O wind k or whatever. And

(15:51):
he said, no, with regards to this portfolio, some of
those holdings that we had, and he listed the names,
I'm going to take some profit because they've exceeded our
benchmark pricing that we'd set in place, and I'm going
to take those profits and invest them in And he
gave the names of those companies as well. Because often

(16:11):
when you're retired, you get into a cocktail party situation
or luncheon with friends or something, and invariably people will
want to talk, well, did you hear about the whatever?
Are you invested in whatever? So it's nice for the
person to know what they own, so you don't just
sit there like an idiot not knowing no my guy's
looking after me. That's the worst thing that you can say. Anyway,

(16:34):
they went on and he said, and I know from
time to time you want to take out lump sums,
and at this point in time, there's money available if
you want to take it. And she said, of course,
I do want to take a lump sum. And so
all of this went on for like twenty minutes or so.
It was perfect. She's feeling fabulous. She knows she's going
to have a good sleep tonight. And he's feeling great

(16:57):
because he's taken the time to give her a lot
of information, give her a whole level of confidence and
reassurance that everything is in good order. So after they've
sort of summed it up and started to talk about
the weather, I piped in and I said, Hi, I'm here.
I heard it. You did a super job. So impressed.
So impressed with that. Anyway, My point is that's the

(17:18):
kind of person that you want to work with. Somebody
who really, really really knows how to do the job well,
but more importantly is looking after you and knows who
you are and where you're coming from and what your
priorities are.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Yes, that's very important because sometimes when you're dealing with
the wealth management arena, you know, you need to definitely
make sure that they know you right, right, period, right.
And that's to me one of the very first things

(17:55):
I gotta see, how well, how do you want to
know me? Are you asking the question so you can
get to know me exactly?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
And that is the foundation of that role right off
the bat. It's know your client. And if you have
skipped over and not delved into knowing exactly who your
client is, and you've recommended some investment or some program
that wasn't appropriate, that wealth advisor is at risk of

(18:23):
losing their license. And it's no different than when you
go to a new medical person. More often than not,
you have to go for blood work, and once the
blood work is done, then that medical person has a
read on exactly where you're at with your situation.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Yes, absolutely, it's so funny. We're talking about this because
a few weeks ago I interviewed a young lady that
does wealth management, and one of the things she talked
about was a lot of people miss their pets. What
happens if something happens to me, and who's going to
take care of my pet?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Right?

Speaker 1 (19:01):
And then the other thing she mentioned was your digital stuff,
your passwords, all of that kind of stuff, right, And
a lot of times we don't even think about that.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
No, we don't, we don't, we don't. Sometimes the best
way to kind of address all of this is just
to imagine it's the day after you're gone, and what
does the world look like. And then once you've got
an idea, then you start to think, oh my goodness,
they don't know the password to my computer, they don't
know you know, blah blah. So that's when you step

(19:33):
up and put it all in there. And I'm sure
you've heard this before that you know, people never want
to do a will, They never want to do all
of those things because as soon as they do, that's
when they'll die. Well, forget that, you're not going to
kill yourself, true, true, Dad.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
You need to have it laid out right. I don't
want nobody fighting of nothing, right. I want to it
laid out and looked at, period, so I know that
we still on the same page. Life hasn't changed for me,
you know, because things change once you do it the

(20:10):
first time. Like you talked about, we got to stay
in review.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Correct, because things change exactly.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
And some people I know, some people we talked about
some people because they have children. It's not always automatic.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
No, no, no, it isn't. But that's why having a
really really positive relationship both with your wealth and with
your health.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Yes, yes, absolutely, I always say your health is your wealth.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Oh, it definitely is. If you don't have your health,
you're not going anywhere anytime soon, because you've got to
spend your time now to focus on getting well. And
if it's really severe, sometimes you've got to spend your
wealth to get well. Yeah, And so anticipate worst case
scenarios and make sure that you've got everything in order
and hopefully nothing ever, ever does happen.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Absolutely, absolutely well, Nancy, I am so glad we had
this conversation. And you know, it's like lately the universe
have been bringing me people like you that are making
us more aware and look at you know, our health,
our financial wealth, you know, and making us pay attention

(21:31):
to the things that we need to be paying attention.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
To to write to be the best that we can be. Absolutely,
and we're the ones that need to make that happen.
And know that you have every right to be selfish
because you're worthy of looking after yourself to the very
best you possibly can.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yes, and to the very end.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Correct, exactly, well, bring to chat. I had a great
to chat and keep up all your great work. So important.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
But again, how do people connect with you, Nancy?

Speaker 4 (22:04):

and living our lives to the very best of our ability.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Absolutely, that's all we can do is be better than
we were yesterday.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Correct, and be thankful we're here.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
