(00:00):
All right, guys, welcome backto another week of Lee County Trojan football.
This is the point of the weekwhere we talk with the head coach
of the leak Anty Trojans, coachDean Fabrizio, on the Lee County Coaches
Show with myself Phil Jones and theycoach himself, Dean Fabrizio coach. How's
it going doing good? How aboutyou, Phil, coach? I'm doing
(00:23):
great as always. Thanks so muchfor doing this. We really appreciate it.
Another the Lea County fans appreciate itas well, So thank you for
having me go ahead. Yeah, yeah, absolutely so, coach. You
guys have us started off in finefashion. Of course, the opening game
of the season. We were thereto capture all the excitement and to come
(00:44):
from behind victory for you guys, and this fast week, not too tough
of a game. Talk about theopponent, Yeah, we started with hate,
Phil Charter. You know, secondtime they've come down here to play
us, and you would really challengeour kids get off to a good start.
We felt like we didn't play wellin the first quarter of the game
Rust one of Robert dors Grimmas game, and you know we certainly came out
(01:07):
and did that jump into a twentynothing first score lead. Yeah. Absolutely,
And uh, the games like thiskind of give you a chance to
you know, to rest some players. I mean, you know, kind
of talk about the approach. Well, you know, they they've got they're
good enough program and have enough goodplayers where we certainly couldn't come into this
thing thinking, hey, we're notgoing to we're not going to uh play
(01:30):
guys and rest guys. But youknow, we certainly were able to get
some guys out earlier than than normal. You know, it's Money only carried
the ball five times, and weare able to play a lot of kids,
so you know, as far asnot having to play you know,
the full four quarters in a game, it certainly saves some guys there.
Yeah, it was Money, ofcourse, again one of our top top
performers. He rushes for a littleover one hundred yards to a couple of
(01:53):
touchdowns on just five carries, andhe also has a touchdown pass. Now
Hateville Charter, I don't know howmany people remember, but you know they
have. They've been one of themore reputable programs in the state. Albeit
a fairly new program, but youknow they've they're a competitive team. I
(02:15):
mean, it's not like they're justsome gimme no doubt. You know,
they want to stay titled. Backin twenty seventeen, and which is not
that long ago, I think they'vegot three or forty alumni playing in the
NFL from recent years. So,yes, good program, their head coach
does a good job, and youknow they're certainly someone we didn't take life.
(02:35):
Yeah, absolutely so did. Let'stalk about the weather, because certainly
the weather has been a part ofalmost every other conversation I've had. I
can tell you this coach, wewere up in Atlanta, we were at
Langston Hughes and it was the hottestI have ever been at a high school
(02:58):
football game, and it was sevenand thirty and the thermostats we're showing or
the third the thermometer, I shouldsay not thermostat, but we're showing like
ninety eight degrees at kickoff. Wow. Wow. Yeah. The humidity level
was extremely high too, and that'ssomething that you know, we just have
to deal with. You know,we constantly stress into our kids to stay
(03:20):
hydrated and taking the necessary precautions, and it's just something we're dealing with right
now. And you know it lookslike it's a little bit not quite as
hot today as it's been, andthen it looks like we're gonna get a
break after today. And you know, of course, hopefully the hurricane doesn't
come through this way and we don'tget bad weather with that. But you
know, these are just things youdeal with this timey here. Yeah,
(03:40):
I think the hurricane's coming, Coach, whether we whether we like it or
not. Now, you guys maymay not get too much being where y'all
are, but you know, oneof the things we have to wait and
see. So now, as faras the temperatures, have your guys been
handling things pretty pretty good. Lastlast week, we had to go in
(04:00):
the morning before school on Tuesday andThursday just because the heat in the afternoon,
so we you know, we didn'twant a chance to wet ball being
high where we couldn't get out orhad to to not wear shoulder pads.
So we went at six am Tuesday, Wednesday last week, and then we're
you know, of course Thursday wasjust to walk through with no pads.
So we've had to make some adjustmentsfor it. But you know, for
the most part, you know,we've been fortunate. You know, like
(04:23):
today, hopefully we'll get a littlecloud cover. You know, it makes
a big difference when that sun goesbehind a cloud for a little bit.
And uh, you know, wellwe'll just uh, you know, we
deal with it. We follow therules. We've got a great trainer and
Brian Davis who does an excellent job, and you know, we we try
to take nestserve cautions, give ourkids a lot of breaks, a lot
of waters, and do, likeI said, do the things necessary we
can still practice, but also doit safely. So we talked about you
(04:46):
know, after the first game.Again we were there so we were able
to see things up close and youknow firsthand. So I know we talked
last week about the sloppiness of theteam. I know you were a little
a bit concerned about that. Uhand the fact that you guys got behind
early in the game. Is wasthis a chance also to try to work
(05:09):
on some of those issues that arethat kind of reared its ugly ahead not
only in game one, but inthe preseason scrimmage as well, No doubt,
no doubt, you know we youknow, we we're constantly working to
get better. And you know, there were some things came out early,
didn't didn't didn't do some things thatwe normally do early in those first few
(05:30):
games, first couple of games, scrimmage, and you know, we really
worked hard all week trying to getout to a good start and correcting those
things. You know, we feellike we did a good job on getting
a lot of things corrected. Obviously, we still got a long ways to
go, like everybody does this timeof year to reach their potential. But
you know, we felt like wefelt like we definitely took a big step
forward here this past week and getbetter. Absolutely. We're talking to Dean
(05:54):
Fabrizio, head coach of the LeeCounty Trojans. We visit with Coach Fabrizio
every week right here on the LeakCounty Coaches Show IG Next Georgia. I'm
your host, Phil Jones, andyou know we invite you guys to join
us all season long talking Lee CountyTrojan football. All right, so let's
talk about the other playmakers. Iknow that, of course, as he
(06:17):
will every week. It was MontyCrowma, Devin Collier looked good. I
gotta tell you something. Devin Collierplays in a mighty big shadow and I
get that, but that young manis quite the ball carrier in his own
right. Well, there's no doubt. You know, he's committed to Georgia
Southern. He plays on both sidesof the ball for us, which as
(06:40):
you know, we don't do witha lot of guys. He returns up
puns and we kickoffs four us.Really we ask a lot of him,
and you know, he's an excellentrunning back in his own right. Yeah,
and you know, we're just reallyfortunate to have those two back there
running back and available to us.And then you know Braxton Owner replays slot
receiver and running back also very impressivetoo in the first game. So we've
(07:00):
got a really really strong running backcorps, oh guys. And you know
the thing about it is both thoseare bigger kids. Jos Mine he's almost
two hundred and twenty pounds, Devon'sone hundred and ninety five pounds. Both
really strong and then both can blockreally well as well. So when you've
got them both back there together,it's it's really great. Some dilemma for
defenses, absolutely absolutely. Uh Soyou talked about the defensive play and you
(07:23):
know, you say you got someguys that played both ways. Now does
Corey Simmons seen his action on offense. Corey McDowell, I'm sorry, Corey
mte now, yes, Now,Devon's kind of our only guy. We
play on both sides of the ball. But Corey had a big and of
course that's Juju's younger brother. Hadtwo interceptions on the night and had had
a big game force. Uh inthe in the secondary. You know,
(07:44):
he's a returning starter and you know, a guy we expect a lot of
and he's playing your Corey's playing reallygood football. Yeah so uh in the
playing in a shadow and a bigshadow. Any comparisons with Corey to juju
Is older brother now at South Carolina, Well, you know it's really unfair
to compare anybody to Jujus as dynamic, as special player as he was.
(08:05):
But you know, Corey has becomea really good player in his own right
and like I said, extremely knowledgeablefootball wise. We ask a lot of
him in the secondary to do alot of different things because it was football
IQ, and like I said,he got he had a big game Friday
night, coming up with two interceptions. Yeah. Absolutely, So talk about
this team, where do you isyour team kind of you know, progressing
(08:31):
as you thought they were. Iknew we're only two games in. And
again, I know we talked aboutthe first game, some some concerns there,
but and I'm sure that one gamedoes not tell the whole story.
But do you feel like and again, the score certainly indicated a pretty good
night, But do you think youguys are about where you want to be?
Are still some things to work on? Well? Yeah, I don't
(08:52):
know if you'd ever say where youwant to be, especially this early in
the season. There's certainly a lotof things we need to work on.
But I felt like we got thispast week, and that's the key thing.
Are we getting better every week? You know? And and and you
know that we played a really goodone of Robin's team to open the season
and good Harbor team. So Ithink then then when you when you start
off the game you're like versus oneof Robins, bumbling the opening kickoff and
(09:15):
things such as that, it kindof puts you behind the eight ball.
I think we're minus three and turnoversin the Carver game, and you know,
to come out it would be minusthree and I'm sorry in the warn
of Robin's game, and to comeout with a win over a really good.
One of Robin's team being minus threeand turnovers is a big deal.
I mean, the rich shows howwell we we actually had to come back
and play to win that game, and yeah, and overcome. But you
know, there's just a lot ofwe've got to We've got to continue to
(09:37):
work to get better. I knowI keep kind of saying that and that
sounds like coach peak, but that'sreally kind of where we are. I
don't know if you, like Isaid, I don't know if I could
ever say, hey man, we'rewhere we were, where we should be
at this point in the year.I mean, there's always a million things
you want to correct. Even youknow, we were up forty two nothing
at halftime the other night, butthere was a whole lot of things we
felt like we could have done better. You know, we've got Lithia Springs
(09:58):
this week, a team I thinkRory Jarvis has really kind of got that
program turned around. I think they'recoming up with four straight trips to the
state playoffs. Their team has beenhere several times, so they're not going
to be intimidated by the atmosphere. The quarterbacks are really good player, and
you know, we've got to becareful. Everybody started to talk about that
cultword County game in two weeks, and you know, we can't overlook Lithia.
(10:18):
We've got to keep our focus onthem, even though everybody in the
outside is going to be talking aboutyou know, Multrie and going to Colt
with the following week in that game. Yeah, that's pretty dangerous, Uh,
start doing that. I mean Iknow that you know Lithia Springs has
got well, they're owing two onthe year, but those are the very
games that'll that'll jump up and biteyou, right, Oh, there's no
(10:39):
doubt. Well, especially when theywhen they've got a coach like Corey Jarvis,
veteran coach season does a great joband you know they've played some good
opponents too. So when you've gotthat, you know this is a team
that certainly has the players and thecoaching could bite you if we're not ready
to play. What is your goalgoing into you know, when you go
into games like cal Quid, Imean, you know you want to try
(11:01):
to use these games to work onyou know, your passing game, your
offense, your defense. I mean, what are the areas that you want
to be you know, really goodat going into the Cowkwood game, and
I know the easy answer is allof them certainly. Well, well,
it's no doubt we've got to continueimproving, improving our passing game, you
know, and that's something we didn'tthrow over a well in the first quarter
(11:22):
the other night. But then youknow, Weston kind of relaxed and kind
of hit his stride there. Inthe second quarter, you go through a
big touchdown through his money, throughanother one to a freshman, and the
second quarter ja Nupshaw. Of course, you know, Weston didn't play any
in the second half because we're upbig, but you know, he kind
of relaxed and he just stride there. And that's the thing when you are
offensive line is also playing excellent, you know, led By, you know,
(11:43):
we've got senior Kyle Green who wasa three year starter, uh Angel
Foster a two year starter, DylonLong a two year starter, and then
two juniors and Dylan Richard's son andJason molten To are excellent football players.
So got a really good offensive lineand that you know, we just we've
got improven obviously in our passing game. But you know, the big thing,
and you know, you go intoa game like this and what I
(12:05):
found is, you know, youcan't force things. You know, you
just gotta you just gotta come outin games like this and play your regular
game and let think and let thinkand let the flow of the game just
happen. Anytime I've went into agame and said, Okay, we're gonna
work on running the ball this week, or we're gonna work on passing the
ball this week, or we're gonnawork on this specifically, instead of just
going in and saying, hey,we're going to do what we need to
do to win. Whenever we've donethat, you try to force things and
(12:26):
it doesn't work out well and youend up having to go back to your
normal stuff. So that's kind ofour thing is, hey, let's just
keep working on all our stuff, let things, let things happen in the
normal flow of the game. Let'snot press up a pressure on doing them.
Because in the past we've kind ofwe've tried to do that, and
I've tried to do as the headcoach said, Hey, we're gonna work
on this specific aspect this week, and you get out there and maybe it's
(12:46):
not there, and you try toforce things instead of just letting it flow.
Naturally come naturally in the flow ofthe game. Well, coach,
I think that pretty much sums itup as far as you know, your
your last game, and of courseLithia Springs, you guys have gotten pretty
acquainted with each other. Now,what's this, Uh, how many years
in a row have you've just playedeach other? This will be four years
(13:07):
in a row we've played with you, you know, And I think people
have really underest me how good afootball team they've had these last you know,
last three years. You know, they've made the playoffs every year,
second round one of those years, and you know, coach Jarvis has done
a great job really getting that programturned around in the last four four or
five years. Absolutely, we'll coachbest of luck again against a Lithia Springs.
(13:28):
We'll come back next week and we'lltalk with you about the game as
well as look ahead to the nextopponent. All right, sounds great,
Phil, Thanks for having me,all right, thank you, coach?
All right, bye bye. Therehe is as Dean Fabrizio, checking in
with us as he does every weekas part of the League County Coaches Show.
Right here on ITG Next Georgia.I'm your host, Phil Jones.
(13:52):
Be sure to join us next weekand we'll talk more with coach Fabrizio.
Until then, have a great weekeverybody,
