Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, welcome into another week of talking Lee
County Trojan football. We are delighted to have with us
every week the head coach of the Lee County Trojans,
Dean Fabrizio, and we've got him on the line with
us now, Coach Abrezio, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm doing good, Phil, And I would like my introduction
to be changed to We've got the longest continually running
coach and coaches show that you do that. I have
the longest continually running one day.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yes, you are one hundred percent right about that. You
have had the longest presence. Uh uh nay, wait a minute, now,
come on, man, it's good yay with you know coaches
or coach coaches coming and going and uh, you never
know who's going to be next, and uh, you have

(00:49):
survived them all, coach.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Who'd have thought when I first started it out last, Rush, Probes,
Randy McPherson, Rants, Skillspian all the Titans. When I first started,
was way down on the think you have me in
a midnight time slot or something like that, late night times, the.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Late nights on slot.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Absolutely well, he has worked his way up and uh,
I've told people this before I still remember, you know,
you're really your big signature win came against Tiff County
at Tiff County, and I think that was when you
guys had just joined. Uh then I guess one six

(01:31):
a right, Yeah, that was.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
When we were in the top class and I went
over there to Tiff County. You know, obviously, I think
that was the year one through five when region play started.
We're all teams from Region one. Of course was number
one went on Wednesday title. Then you have of course,
Lounge was ranked up there, Valdosta was ranked up cam
then ranked up there high and I think the Tip

(01:54):
was up there as well. So it was one through five.
We were kind of the out liar. Went over there,
played Tiff County coach by reed yep got a big
win on the road in the in the first Region one,
which at the time it was the top top class
that's right class. So it was a big win for
us and kind of a breakthrough wine.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
It really was.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
It really wasn't tell people about it all the time, coach,
And you've done nothing but a great thing since then.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
So uh now, no offensive tip him. But if we
lose that game, there'll be big problems around here.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I'll do that, man, I tell you, you know, seriously
speaking though, it just kind of you know, I think
that's a perfect you know case in point. Uh and
i' and I've often made this this comparison before, coach,
you know, what does that say about each program?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Hate you put it that way, but yeah, it is.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
It's got a really a tip count He's always had
a very proud program, strong program. You know, just just
a couple of years, you know, a couple seems like
just yesterday, a couple of years ago under Ashley Anders,
you know, in the top class they had a couple
of great seas with of course Sean Beckton. Yeah, NFL Bateman,
I'm sorry, in the NFL had a couple of really

(03:08):
really great years. Of course, actually is an excellent football coach.
And uh you just one long ago. And I'm sure
they'll be back here sooner rather than later over there
in Gift County.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Absolutely, you just hoping that it doesn't start with y'all.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yes, definitely, definitely. Hopefully they're not talking about that years later.
I remember when they got that win over League.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
What comes around goes around?

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Maybe, uh, yes, well hopefully not.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
But anyway, hey, listen. Thanks so much though for for
joining us. We do appreciate appreciate the time. All right,
so let's talk about your game Friday night. Coach. Uh,
you guys had a big game against Veterans, big region
match up. Talk briefly about the game that you guys won.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
The Veterans came in, Uh. You know, their team started
off three and looked really good and unfortunately, you know,
they've had some injuries and you know, lost last couple
of games coming in. But we knew, you know, we're
gonna get their best shot and came out. We fumbled
the opening kickoff and they kicked the field goal, and
then you know, we had a good drive down the
field scored and then we blocked the punt and scored

(04:15):
and kind of thought we had control of the game,
and then boom they had. You got to give them credit.
Those kids didn't quit over there. You know, they boom,
they got a drive going. We had to stop a
couple of times, drive got extended on penalties, and boom
they scored, and it's fourteen ten and we get a
big kick off the turn and then fumbled the first play.
They get it back. So here it is fourteen ten
early in the second quarter, they got the ball back,

(04:36):
but you know, we defense stiff and played well held
we kind of took control of the game there. Scored
two more touchdowns there to finish out the half, and
then scored four or three in the third quarter in
one you know there in the first couple of plays
of the fourth quarter to kind of steal the game.
And the fourth quarter was played with the running clock,
so we're able to get a lot of guys in
the game. But you know, veterans came out and you know,
they came out, played hard. Got to give them a

(04:57):
lot of credit. But you know, our kids, we're able
to play really well. West and Bryant had probably his
best game to date, one hundred and seventy yards passing
three touchdowns and he also had a rushing touchdown. You know,
we had seven different players score touchdowns in the game,
so spread the ball around to a lot of different guys.
You know, Chroma's sixteen carries one hundred and fifty one
yards rushing in a touchdown and then another two catches

(05:20):
for sixty yards and a touchdown, so big night for him.
Braxton Honer had a receiving touchdown also had thirty six
yards on four carries, so another good night for him.
And as I said, Weston had a big night also
with three passing touchdowns and a rushing one one with
U seventy yards receiving and a touchdown. So so good
night all around. Offensively spread the ball around to a

(05:42):
lot of guys. I don't think we did not punk
the entire evening. Yeah, but you know, so it was
good night. Miss two field goals was probably the biggest
negative thing, but you know, they both had plenty of
distance just for a little wide. So we'll work on
that this week and can get better at that, you know,
I said, good good night for the.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Trojans absolutely, and out of all that, Lee County gets
the victory final score fifty six to sixteen. So again
great win, great region win, and that's the really the
most important thing. Yeah, I thought Josh Ingram has done
a really good job there at Veterans. You know, it's

(06:22):
tough with those middle school or middle Georgia schools. You know,
they're in the one Robins area. They kind of go
through these cycles. Everybody kind of takes their lumps, you know,
over certain you know, amounts of time. So I just
think that kind of explains what he's going through there
right now.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
You know, Josh a good football coach. You know, we
took over for Milan Turner, who's an excellent ball coach
as well. And I think this is their second year
and six A. You know, they've kind of got They've
had a lot of growth there and got bumped up
and I still think they're in that adjustment phase. But
you know, he'll get them going there sooner, So I
think sooner rather than later. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, but let's talk about you guys now. Obviously westn
you mentioned West and Brian. He's made our Top Performers list,
which is reserved for only the best of the best performances.
And I think that's the first time we've had him
on there maybe ever, if not ever, his first time
in a long time that we've had him. Uh, you've

(07:17):
got to be pleased with seeing him have a breakout
type game like that in a big game like this.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, he's his the last two games as the best
he's played this year. He's doing a great job extending plays.
You're such a big, strong kid, you better get him
in your grasp to get him down. You know, he's
shaken off and guys that had him in their grass
fun out and made big plays and extended drives each
of the last two weeks. And he's really starting to
feel more comfortable there. He's really starting to get a
comfort level with his receivers and it's taking a little

(07:48):
longer than we probably wanted, but it's starting to really
come along and that's something that's uh, you know, we're
real happy to see. You know, Wes' great kid, extremely
hard worker, and we knew he was, you know, he
had some tough games early, but we knew he was
going to come around, and he's really playing good football
right now.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
We're talking to Dean Frizio, head coach of the Lee
County Trojans, talking to Trojan Football every week with the
head man of the Trojan football program, and we're talking
about a great win for Lee County this past Friday night,
getting to win over Veterans, another region fellow Region one

(08:24):
six eighteen and coach, you know you talked about Wes
and talking about his money. I always kind of got
his money, OSMANI from watch on talk about his play.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Oh, another great game, you know, like I said, one
hundred and fifty one yards an additional sixty yards receiving,
So he's really becoming a complete back. You know, he's
a great blocker for other people when they get the
ball in and pass protection. He's really come on as
a receiver. So he's really becoming a complete Backer's money.
We're able to use him a lot of different ways
because of that. You know, Devin Collier had another good

(08:56):
game and the two tackles for loss on defense six
to seven tackle has had another you know, seventeen yards
rushing in the touchdown, so and it had a couple
of big pun return sports as well. Had a block.
Jase Angry had a block pun in the game, the
Garman returning for touchdowns. So other than the miss field goals,
I thought our special teams performed well as well as
the game.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Now, I've always said to you that I thought, well,
I still think that your special teams unit is one
of the best overall units I've ever seen, and I
think it's a big major compliment to your football team
and the success that you guys have had. Talk about

(09:37):
that area specifically of your football team special teams, Well, you.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Know, our special team coordinator Nathan Clark does an outstanding job.
You know, we were able to devote a lot of
time to special teams. We've been of course, we've been
blessed with good players and also kids that they take
it seriously and they don't mind being on special teams.
And you know, we've we've done a great job coverage
wise this year, with the exception of couple of kicks
on kickoff. Our punting games has been solid this year,

(10:04):
covering both both the punting and covering. Are are you
know our our other our punk block punt return. You know,
like I said, we've had a punt return, a big
couple of big punt returns this year. We had our
first punt blocker of the year this this past Friday
for that got return for touchdown. So something we take
a lot of pride in something that you know, we

(10:24):
we feel like we're doing a good job. You are
a long snapper. Duror Butler's the first year long snappers
a junior for us, and he's doing an outstanding job.
That's that's just such an under underrated part of the game.
You know, you you're you don't appreciate those long snappers
until you don't have one. And we've been We've had
a run of really good ones here the last you know,
eight ten years.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, no, without a doubt.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
And again I feel, and I've told coach that before
that I think Asia is really a complete part of
the success of the Lee County football program over these
last few years, well really since coach Forbrezio has been there.
Is that something that you have always done before you
got to Lee? Is it something that just kind of
happened as far as making sure that your you know,

(11:07):
that special teams unit is always one of the top,
you know units of your football team.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
How did that come about?

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Well, I think everybody stressed special teams. You know, we're
no different. We do put a lot of time in
on it. I think we're real efficient and how we
work it because there's always a balance, you know with
special teams. You know, you've only got so much time,
and you know, we try to keep our kids fresh
and not keep them out of that practice field too long.
But you got so you've got to be really efficient
and how you utilize your time. And we've had some really,

(11:36):
really good coaches come through here that have had headed
up our special teams units. They've taken a lot of
pride in it, and you know we've kind of tried
to build on that year after year. You know, what
one guy's come up with that was really good, we've
kind of carried on and then new guys taking it
over and then they've added there their their twist to it.
And your Rusty Waters did it for a bunch of years,
did a great job for him, Wreck Grant did it

(11:57):
was outstanding, and then Corey joined her did it last year.
Of course, it was coach at Carver a couple of
years ago that played for the state title. And now
Nathan Clark, who is our offensive coordinator back in seventeen
and eighteen one state titles. That was South efing amsas
head coach. You know, we're able to get him back
on staff this past year and he's kind of taken
what those guys have done well and added his to it.

(12:18):
So I think it's a combination of we've had really
good players here. I think the way we've kind of
learned how to practice it, we're very efficient, we use
good use for our time. And then you know we've
had coaches who've done an outstanding job and kind of
established that, you know, established expectations that are that the
kids want to uphold. And then also those guys have
done a good, great job and how they coach things,

(12:39):
and each one of them has added something to it,
and we've been able to they move on, We've been
able to retain the things that they did, and then
the new guys come in learn those things, but then
add their own twist to it which made it even better.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Absolutely, we're talking to Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the
Lee County Trojans. It is our weekly Lee County Coaches Show,
our opportunity and your opportunity to hear from coach Dean Fabrizia.
All right, so obviously region play is here, uh, and
I'm going to take you back to last year. It

(13:12):
was kind of a crazy turn of events in region play.
I think, in my opinion, it kind of sidetracked and
really took you guys off kilter. And of course i'm
talking about region play last year, which you know, you
had a couple of crazy games there, a couple of
crazy endings. Well, you know, when you look back, is

(13:32):
that something that you try to learn off of, you know,
as far as what you guys had happened to you
last year versus you know, going into it.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
This year, we'll see. I thought, after what happened with Miami,
you know, not taking the need of the people were
completely forgot uh last year where we lost in the
last play of the game the North Side.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
But irony there, I'll tell you so, irony there.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
It's certainly something we learned from, I'll tell you that,
and certainly something they had coaches learned from. So in
just one of those weird situations, you know things, you know,
And it wasn't just the last play in that game.
Probably ten things had to go, uh, had to go
perfect for them to for them to get that win.
We're kind of twenty to nothing and control of the
game midway through the fourth quarter, and just just one

(14:15):
of those weird, weird things. But you know, I've said
this along. Got to give a Norse side credit for
for continuing to fight. But yeah, it's something we've definitely
learned from, you know, like I So, we haven't talked
a lot about it this year. Each year is a
new year. Uh certainly you know, our kids know, you'll
come on, we were in really good shape last year
coming off the open week, and and then all of
a sudden, you know, that that game kind of happened,

(14:35):
and and uh it was tough mentally to recover from that.
And uh, you played a really good DCC team the
next week, didn't didn't. You know, they were able to
get us and get the win. And then you know,
we lost j D. Ferguson or it was a really
good receiver and an injury in that game, and you know,
just just one of those things that happened. But like
I told people a long time, when you play in
a region that's as good as ours. For us to

(14:58):
go five years in a row win in the re
championship and to not have lost the region game in
four years, it's just an amazing accomplishment, you know, And
to do it, like I said, first, the competition that
we have to play, you know, you're not going to
go on forever and not lose a game, and that's
going to happen now hopefully didn't. You know, Hopefully the
way it happened is something we could avoid in the future.

(15:18):
But you know, we know we got some tough games
lined up for us, and we've always known you can't
take teams lightly. But if anything, that kind of reinforced
that last year that hey you better be on your
a game from start to finish and play the full
end of the game. If you relax, any of these
teams will take advantage of it.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Absolutely now, So you had I was gonna say it
was the Veterans game. I'm sorry, No, it was the
Norse that one a robins game.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Right, Yes, North Side won of robins.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Game, which is so you guys have got next correct, Yes,
we're open.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
You know it's the same schedule. Of course, this year
home second year of said scheduling cycles. So you know,
everybody's open this week. You know that's h since we're
in with a bunch of teams that don't want of
robins affairs in town this week week, so we have
to kind of take this week. They wanted this week
as an open week, so you know, I guess you know,
since it's right there in Perry, they'll they'll be able

(16:09):
to you know, practice early and then get get over
to the fair and ride all the rides and everything
like that. So us being the nice guys, we are
we obliged and we're okay with that. So so well,
but we are open. We'll use this week to get better.
Our entire region is open like I said, we'll try
to focus on ourselves this week, focus on getting better
and hopefully we'll be a better football team by the

(16:31):
end of the week. And then we got a big
game versus north Side on the road. Then we got
to go on the road to TCC the following week.
So two games we can get for fortune and get
both of them, we'll be the region champions. But you know,
right now, we're gonna work on ourselves and then we'll
all focus will be on north Side next week.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Yep, absolutely so Again, Lee County is going to have
after this break this by week return to action against
north Side at north Side and that's at McConnell Talbert.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yes it is. You know on north Side. Ben Bailey's
their head coach. Ben was an assistant here for US.
Uh want a state championship with US. Nick Ward, their
offensive coordinator, was an assistant here several years also want
a state championship here as an assistant coach. So there's
two guys I know really well that are really good coaches,
and uh, you know, we know they're gonna have their
team prepared and we're gonna have to play really well

(17:20):
to get to go on the road. To get a win.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Absolutely so north Side, Thomas County Central, and then Tiffed
the final three. As we wrap up this show, kind
of let you talk about all three of them as
a group.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Well, you know, and it's interesting said it because I've
talked a lot about this. When you're in Region one,
you can't look at it like that and oh, we've
got these three games or these two. You've got to
You've got to when you're playing a team that week,
all your focus is better be on that team, because
any team in this region is good enough to if
they are on the on the right night, to get you.
So that's one thing we've learned, and I learned this

(17:55):
region a long time and go, hey, there's no looking ahead.
All your focus better be on that, on that, on
that game coming up, you know, and you've got CCC.
I think they're ranked second in the state right now.
North Side had some injuries, but they're they're getting healthy.
They're going to be an extremely good, formidable and tough opponent,
all the tradition they've got there. We got to go
play McConnell Talbert, which is such a tough place to play.

(18:17):
And then of course, you know, Tiff counties. Uh, you
know they're you know, coach Dein obviously has stepped down
after the season that that's going to be his last
game there provide unless they they're able to get on
a run and get the playoffs. So I'm sure they'll
be wanting to send him out with a win. And
we're get their last game as well, So so that's something. Uh,
you know, we're gonna have to be ready for all
those games, but you know, we're not looking at them

(18:37):
all together. We're looking at one of a time. Uh,
and hopefully, like I said, hopefully we can we can
push through. And you know it's been a goal obviously
to win the region. You know, last year's the first
year and in six years we did not win it,
and it's always this year. But you know, we're going
to tell you one game at a time and hopefully
come out on top.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Absolutely well put coach, well, listen, thank you so much
for taking time out.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Like your approach to the games.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
We're gonna talk to you one day at a time,
one show at a time, and of course that means
we'll come back next week and talk to you about
region play and uh again, take a look at your
next opponent coming up a little bit more in detail
as you guys get ready for north Side one of Robbins.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Appreciate you, fil and thanks for everything you do to
promot high school sports.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Thank you for saying that coach means a lot. See
you later.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
There is this Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the Lee
County Trojans. He joined us every week for the Lee
County Coaches Show. We'll come back next week and talk
to coach for Brizio more about North Side and what
to expect from Norset one of Robinson.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
You guys remember Lee County had it.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Lee County had it in the back and just some
freaky things happen there at the end, and before you
knew it, Norse I had one of Robins fans jumping
up and down and celebrating everywhere.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
We'll talk more about that next week.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Be sure to catch next week's show and we'll go
into uh into sharp detail about that one coming up
with north out of Wind of Robins. That will be
next week here on the leak Any Coaches Show right
here at i TG next with myself, Phil Jones and
coach Dean Fabricio.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Don't miss it.
