Speaker 1 (01:44):
Big thanks, by the way. Speaking of our sponsor to Phoebe,
who is stepped up in sponsoring the leak and of
Coaches show and Coach, I know you're excited about.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Having them on as your sponsor. Absolutely couldn't be happier.
You know, they do a lot of great things for
our community and it's great that they joint spots of
this show. Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Absolutely well. With that being said Coach, Before we get
started on talking about what's going on now and in
twenty twenty six, let's take a quick look back at
twenty twenty five. Obviously, you always have Lee County in
a position to contend for region championship and even further,
(02:22):
give us a quick recap for the fans out there
who may not have kept up with Lee County or
may have just forgot what's happened since over this long summer.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Well, you know, last year, we're coming off a phenomenal
twenty twenty four season. You know, we lost went to
thirteen to one, lost to Built. There was a rank
second nation semi finals, who were a nationally ranked team.
I think we're the highest number twenty in the nation.
You know, when you lose great players like a new
Spot Cromile, Western Bryan, guys like that, it's gonna be
(02:51):
a little bit of an adjustment. We had a heck
of a team last year. We lost some close games.
It's really good team. We played Thomas County I think
closer than anybody did the season at their place. Uh.
You know, we lost a really tight game to a
great Hoco team, and we lost a close game, uh
to a Cople County team during the regular season. So
your seven and three is not indicative where we usually are.
(03:13):
But it's just you don't play really good people. Sometimes
things don't go your way and got a tough draw
in the playoffs. I saw our first round. We had Sprayberry,
which was the only match up in the entire state
of top ten rank teams. We had to go on
the road. We beat them, and then we draw Langston
used in the second round and they turnovers in that game.
They took advantage of them. And you know, we had
an early exits on the second time. I think in
(03:35):
ten years or or over that that we've been haven't
made it past the second round. But that played great competition.
Sometimes you don't come out on top. Had had a
good football team, Uh not quite do you want it?
But again that had some great bans last year and
that's great things happening. You know, we're looking forward to
this year. Experienced team, so really last year and you
(03:57):
know that that that's not a great thing last year.
It's a good thing this year because we got a
lot of guys back, a lot of experience.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Well, coach, I want to start, and this may be
a little bit uncustomary for for some conversations as they go,
but I'm gonna start with the defense because I think
that could will be your strong seat.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Well, you know, we think we've got a pretty balanced team.
But yeah, defensively, we've got some experience. You know, starts
at linebacker, Great Batsa and Jace Murray three year starters
for us UH. Outside, uh, we've got some really really
good players. Preston Manriquez, a returning a returning starter, h
Carson Cook one of the top wrestlers in the state.
And the other spot, Johnny Burrow is another linebacker. You
(04:38):
go up front, kJ Johnson's first team All Region, last
year ACUA player. We've got several other guys up there
that are are coming to their own and in our secondary,
you know, we've got three guys back there that are
highlight Aul Years and Trey Bush, Trey Clay, three year
starters the Hollingbey juniors, then a Champ Brown, other Highland
Creed guy, and then if the fourth got round, now
(05:00):
it's kJ Streeter. Kenny j kJ is was one of
the top two Hunter Beater guys runners in the state.
So that's step there with Isaiah Jackson who's Lossiah's younger brother,
and and Rollins who's a really really good players as well.
So we're really excited about that group. Got a lot
(05:21):
of experience, a lot of players with the softball.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
That's fantastic, you know, of course, And the reason I
wanted to start off on defense because I do know
you've got so much talent on that side of the ball.
And of course, as they say, it's defense that wins championship.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
So you certainly have got a good one.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Let's talk about the offense, though, coach, And again, hey,
there's no what am I trying to say here? You
know I didn't put the defense first because there's so
much better than the offense. Because, as you're about to
tell us, coach, I guess a pretty good talent on
that side of the ball, especially guys that are going
to be catching the football this year.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Talk about that. Well, you know, you start out with
Jay Saw to be a three year starter for it,
or really a four year starter for US, a very
rare four year starter for US. Uh team is one
of the top and top right receiving stage in Texas
A And now, uh, such a good player, uh you
great ball in his hands, it's a great blocker. Obviously
he's a threat catching the ball every time he touches it.
(06:19):
You've got Carter Blackwell back Clemson committed tight end to
so multi talented. He can find up the pea, can
line up, the full back, line up a tas tight
ends out wide. It's clear. Then we've got a couple
of young receivers really excited about Till mc calhoun. Uh
mattress receivers uh in the this to Jaden and Carter.
(06:39):
You've got uh Destin Bell, who's returning starter, dynamic talent.
Be a june, you're a mart West and you're gonna
be a sophomore. But it's being burging. Is a big
ToIP player for us. Till McKellen rotating in and then
depending on what happened to Jordan bush you could see
Jordan bish play out their receiver something. So that's okay,
pretty talented group. You know. You go to running back,
You've got Dominique ball back. Last year we had several
(07:00):
running backs and shared the load. Domini could be the
main guy. This year Jordan Bushman gets and carriers there
as well. Jordan's he right here his name. Several positions
gonna line up all over and then you get the
offensive line. We returned four starters, which then usually last
year we want returned one's dark. Yeah, this year we've
got four coming back Chavez Dixon who's committed to North Carolina,
Larry Moseley committed to Jordana State, Larry Jackson another returning
(07:23):
starter in case. So it's a big experienced group up front,
rounding out the center. Uh, Mike Mike Robinson, a big kid,
really really got it. Can't be a great player for parts.
And then the quarterback positions where things up. George Bush
started several games for US last year. Uh, he's the
guy who's played receiver, he's played running back, he's played quarterbacks.
(07:45):
Right now, the first team reps has some secret deal.
Cohen Lawson who's come over front Aultree transfer moved moved
over here, and you know he's he's getting in. He's
larded our system. And right now you know, both of
them called play versus Carver Friday night eight. You know
we're gonna see how things go.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, I was gonna ask you about Lawson of course.
You know this has been a very busy off season
for transfers. Coach and Uh. Cohen Lawson of course was
two year starter for the calcle Kenny Packers. Now I
know that that doesn't mean that he comes in and
is guaranteed anything. As you mentioned Bush has been uh
has been the guy and it's really it sounds like
it's earned the starting job. But you're telling us that
(08:23):
both those guys are gonna get a look on Friday
night in the Strange and Jordan.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
May place by the place as well. You know, like
I said, he's committed to mercers are running back. He's
he's a dynamic talent. Where we put him, uh an
unselfish player. He's on the line up wherever to help
the team.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
I got you, all right? So who is the sue
is the opponent in the scrimmage game?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Carver Columbus two time defending state champions, who look out. Yeah,
it'll be a uh, it'll be a good test force
right off the bat, you know, uh, and and what
and we want to play a lot of guys at this.
We wanted to see, can you know, try to develop
some depth and see, hey, you play that. We'll put
a guy on the field. Is he ready to go?
And we don't want that first thing to be when
(09:03):
we play copa count here or somebody else or TCC. Well,
he's not quite ready for this yet. He's more seasoning.
We want to find out right away. And you know,
I'm not worried about one of the scrimmage. I'm more
concerned about, you know, get better and see playing a
lot of guys and guys are ready or not, because
this is how you find that out.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah, and coach, I'm I'm glad you brought that up
because the fans, of course, get really caught up and
what was the final score? You know, we saw a
lot of that scoreboard watching this fast Friday night, and
I mean, you know, people I think lose sight of
the real meaning of these scrimmages. And so I'm so
glad as a head football coach you can explain to
(09:42):
the fans what exactly it is that you're looking to
gain from the scrimmage, and it's not what the final
score says on the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well, yeah, everybody's got different philosophies on it, you know,
and how they approach the scrimmage. And we want to
play a good opponent. We want to find out about
our team. Yeah, we obviously don't want to show too much, right,
but yeah, importantly we want to We want to get
looks at a lot of people. First first, really good people. Yeah,
we see that practice, but you know, we want to
know who's Friday night ready? You can get snaps for
(10:10):
us on Friday night. So we're gonna roll a lot
of people in there and see are they ready yet
or they need more seasoning? You know what, what what
do we have? So that's kind of what we're looking at,
you know, or not. Of course we want to do
well in the game. We're not as concerned with that.
You know, twenty four we went over there. You know,
it didn't play well. Everybody's panicing, and we ended up
having a monumental season. So you know, it gives you
(10:33):
a chance. You know, it gives us a chance to
be basic of what we do and look in our
personnel and get people an opportunity to go out child
they could do. So you know that, that's kind of
our philosophy on it. Like Carver is a good opponent,
got a really good team, and they'll sure there their
favorites again and three eight to win in a third
state championship in a row. But uh, it'll be a
(10:54):
good test for us and a good opportunity to see
what we've got.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
All right, coach, what is the format gonna be? You
guys gonna do varsity for three quarters? JV how's that
going to work out.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
We're still working that out. Varsity to play the first
half and we're kind of still talking about how far
in the second half there I'll play. Uh those special
teams will be live. Uh, quarterbacks say special teams will
or will not be live live. Uh, they will not
be live. So uh that's kind of how we're going
to do this game.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
So it's you know, it's a Scrimmage's not quite like
a real game, but much close.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I got you. Well, that's all we can ask for.
So coach, let's move ahead, and of course next week
we'll be talking more about this. But after the scrimmage,
what does the start of the season look like for
Lee County?
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Well, you know, it's tough for us to find games,
you know, and then combine that with the fact that
it's hard for us to find people to play, and
then our are our people like big games, Our kids
like big games, our big games, and I think also
helps our kids recruiting wise, we'll be fortunate to have
a lot of kids signed. Yeah, play on big stages,
they get noticed by college is more and I think
(12:04):
the film meets you know, you get Biogle talking. You know,
your people talk in the past, well, if he would
have played at the bigger school, he'd be how they're
more highly recruited. But I think part of that is
the competition level you play. You know, college college coaches
know who you're playing and know the competition level you go,
you play well and show you a really good player
for the top level competition. I think that definitely helps recruiting.
(12:25):
So you know, we're gonna open you we start with
Carver and then we're gonna play the team they beat
the state championship game at hate Bill Charter to open
the season. You played them four or five years in
a row. Now if Gordon, a good friend of mine,
does a great job and you know, it's great gave
both of us.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Last year was kind of odd because they have like
meat out at half and then they had to come
back and finish the game another day. So hopefully not
on what that doesn't happen this year, but it was
it was that's gonna be a good They've got a
they got a good football team. You know, they're one
of the top teams in their class. Yeah, they'll be
in the mix again. Everybody kind of last year here
was panicking that. You know, the game wasn't a flowout
(13:01):
like the previous two years. I said, guys are pretty
dang good. You know, they played for the state championship,
you know, so and then after that, uh, you know,
we have a national matchup versus Miami Carroll City team.
That's I saw it. Some instances tranked us high as
eleventh nation, and some Poles appreciate it. They've got kids,
you know. Every time I turn around, I see they're
(13:22):
getting another kid transfer in and it's a great player.
So it should be a neat matchup. You know, they've
got the top rank receiver in Florida. Uh, and you
know we've got the top rank receiver in Georgia. So
that's pretty neat. It'll be a NAT that'll be a
national type game, and we've got to travel up to
Sequoia to play a great sequiteam that's come off the
third round, uh, the third round exit last year, Paintings
(13:46):
the third route, you know. And I also saw coach
Teeter up there and being having a two longest tenured
coaches at six A with eighteen years at the same school.
So I don't know if the winner gets a cane or
something like that well, but getting much Uh been the
longest place, Yeah, same school, you know, eighteen years both
(14:07):
of us, So that'll be I didn't realize that till
until it came out because we traveled them. We got
to come back after the long trip and travel on
all Tree to take on Cople County. I'm sure it'll
be a phenomenal atmosphere and then we start reaching play
turn right off in a bag, play a TC seed,
open things up. So pretty pretty tough, tark, pretty tough
(14:29):
start to our season. Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Coach, Well, listen, then we're gonna have a blast talking
to you all season long where we're keeping the fans
up to speed on what's happening. I mean, and fans,
you'll will be hearing it literally from the horse's mouth.
I mean, you'll be hearing it from coach Dean from
his mouth. He'll be telling you exactly. So listen for
all of you that get on social media and do that, well,
(14:51):
I'm wondering what we're doing here or there. Yeah, there
are no questions anymore because you'll be hearing it right
now every week from Dean Fabreeze, head coach of the
Leek Any Trojans right here on our weekly Lee County

Speaker 1 (15:39):
They've got the scrimmage game and then they'll get things
started for real. And man, it's a tough start to
the season for twenty twenty six for the Lee Any
Trojan tow twenty six, but win loser draw. We're going
to be right here with the coach talking about it
here at Lee Anny Coaches Show on it g Next,
brought to you again by our friends at Phoebe until
(16:01):
next week. Hope you guys have a good one.
