Speaker 5 (01:08):
So, coach, let me.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Go back to that restore. I appreciate them sponsoring this.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Yeah, again, I want to issue, you know, joining on
that just like last week, I want to issue a
public service announcement that if you have any pickleball injury,
it's probably time to give up all active sports.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
So I know they said that if you have to
pickleball injury to see.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
How pe, if you have to go to an orthopedic
over pickleball injury, probably time to probably time to just focus.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
On walking and give up the competitive athletics.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
For now here here. I agree with you. I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Coach couldn't said it better myself. So Coach, I don't
know if you guys needed the services of.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
A Phoebe, but I ain't tell you.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
It was a really good win for you guys, and
we got to remind everybody hate Bille Charter played for
state championship last year.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Everybody seems to forget about that. I mean, yeah, for
the state championship. They've they've won a state championship within
the last ten years. Last year, they're going to make
another good run this year. I mean, you know, coach Gordon,
I got to give him a lot of credit. He
schedules tough out of region games and that's why his
always team, his team come playoff time, is always ready
to make a run. You know. Last year, Uh, you know,
(02:20):
we came out, we weren't quite ready, and I got
to give them a lot of credit.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It was zerous year and a.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Half and then we you know, we end up putting.
We had to fight into the second half to win
the game. Of course, the two previous years we got
on pretty good early and had a big lead at halftime,
and I think our kids took him like with last year,
but that's certainly was the case. This year.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
We had to wait a long time to play the game.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
You know. We had bad weather coming Friday night. Yeah,
so we came back out Saturday.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
It was clear all day and then boom, right as
we get out there to warm up. We started midway
through warm.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Up, boom, like the storm pops up and it hung
there for about an hour and then it went away.
It was it was clear skies after that, but there
was something after delaying the game to getting out of
the forum and having to sit through another delay. So
it was a while before we got out there, but
once we did, things clicked pretty well.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Yeah, fifty one to nothing the final score.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
I had actually jokingly said to coach from Breezio, I
think it was Friday night. I say, coach, be sure
you know, no, no, not to be overlooking Hatefield Charter.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
You know you got a big one coming up next
week or actually this week, which we'll talk about before
we get off here.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
But you know, you kind of chuckled a little bit.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
And I knew that, Man, hey, we're not overlooking anybody,
and you guys came out and really got the job
done against Hatefield Charter. Take us through the game, kind
of give us the cliff notes for those that missed
the game.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Coach, well, that was exactly right. We talked a lot
about that because there was so much talk about the.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Man game coming up, Yeah, so much this week. We
had to keep our kids focused Friday because we know
if we weren't completely focused on them, it was gonna
be it could be a tough night.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
That's what came out played.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Well, you know, our combination two quarterbacks combined for sixteen
to twenty passing for over two hundred yards and three touchdowns. Wow,
we rushed for almost three hundred yards, you know, Jordan
Bush had one hundred and thirteen yards rushing dominy ball
ninety three.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
And we had six different kids score touchdown, so a
lot of guys, a lot of guys got in the game.
You know, Carter Blackwell had a touchdown catch, Jade Nupshaw.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Had another exceptional game for us with a touchdown catching
two point conversion a little over half of place.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
So really pleased there. You know, our offense in the
scrimmage game and this one is not punted yet.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
They've scored a touchdown every time they've got the ball,
So really really pleased with that obviously, how could you
not be.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Defensively, kJ Johnson.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Carson Cook both combined for five sacks between the two
of them and several.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Of the guys. Jason Murray played an exceptional game.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Greg Batson has always played well, Preston Manriquez and Trey
Bush in the secondary. So we've got a really really good,
good group overall, and was pleased with the performance Friday night.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, you got yeah, I would say so. And you know,
what does it mean? How do you go?
Speaker 1 (04:56):
I'm sure you have to really go over time to
try to get your keep your kids focused. Uh, not
only because you've got a big game coming up, but.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
With all the weather interruptions.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
I mean talk about what you know, how how much
pressure does it put on you and your staff to
keep the kids focused, you know, because of all these delays,
because we know how you know teenage kids can get.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, well, you know last week was a different week.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
We had to adjust and go before school, before practice
because the heat in the afternoons and the web right
you know, potentially not.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Letting us out. So we did that.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Our kids did a great job of that. Coming in early.
That was an adjustment obviously. You know, we had to
postpone the game Friday, and that's definitely an.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Adjustment when you're looking forward to all ready to play,
and it's.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Adjustment of the coaches too, you know, that's that's the
day we lose preparing for the next opponent, and it's
it's tough on the coaches, so you know, and then
when you when you go when you're ready to play
and then there's a delay and you have to go
in and that's that's another thing you've got to Yeah, yeah,
place you was saying for the opponent, and you know
you can't, you can't.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
You can only control the things you can control.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Fortunately, we've got a veteran team, We've got a lot
of great leadership on this team, and they did a
good job of handling all those things.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
And fortunately we came out, like I said, played well.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Our offensive line led by Case and Worshipz Dixon. We
have four returning starters there, Larry Jackson, Larry Moseley. They
did a phenomenal job Friday of a pavement a way.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
And you know the thing about it is, like we
talked to we've gone through this over the years.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
When you play a schedule like we play, your complete
focus better be on.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
That game that week. Yep.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
If you look at it in several game blocks, well
you're gonna be overwhelmed and you better have all your
focus on that game and then when that one's over put.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
It behind you and move on to the next time.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
That's right, and that's right.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Can do that in this league, you're going to struggle
because if it gets overwhelming, if you look at.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
All them together, yeah, one hundred percent starting to de Ferrizio,
head coach of the Leake Aunty Trojan. Big win to
start the season, fifty one to nothing over a really
good hate go A Charter team which again played for
a state championship last year.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
So this was no cream puff coming in. This was
a really good team.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
But Coachabrizio and he's football team took care of business. Coach,
how about all of region want to be shout out
yea too. I'm sorry we're reaching.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I know I do the same thing too, but uh.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
You know, we feel like this is the toughest region
in Georgia. I don't think there's any doubt that.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
It clearly is. The start of the season.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Cacc opens up with just a huge win. They've got
a great team. Coffee goes up and beats park View
and a big win. Hoko goes up and beats West
Forsythe Yeah, they played in the court and Cult Classic.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Uh you want.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
To start what a start to the season, and just
it just shows how tough north Side starts off with
another with a huge win over Eagle's Landing team. So
you know, I think it just shows this is the
top region of the state. And the toughest region in
the state. You know, the fans are going to be
treated to some great football this season and hopefully, you know,
iron sharpens iron, and that'll hope all of us come
playoff time. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Absolutely, And you're right, everybody had a great night, and
I agree with you. If it's not the toughest region
in the state, then show me one that he is,
because from top to bottom, you know, I mean, Veterans
had a really good showing. You know, Friday night. They
were actually leading one of Robins late in that game.
(08:10):
So again, you know, everybody is really playing well right now.
So you can't take anybody lightly, not that you guys would,
but you guys have got another non reaching game though, coach,
So you got a big one coming to town. I
tell you, I don't know that there's been more hype
surrounding a game and an opponent than what we've been
(08:33):
hearing even last week. And I'm sure it's just gonna
ramp up this week. And I'm talking about Carroll City
coming into town. There's a lot of people who don't
know about Carroll City, but why don't you tell.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Them about a little bit more about Carroll City?
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Where are they Where are they from?
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Well, they're from Miami and the school's the actual name
of school's Miami Carol City.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Okay, he is in the official name of the school.
I actually, when I was in Florida played them in
a state championship game back in the early.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Two thousand Georgia.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
It was a long time ago.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
They had a great player with Willie Williams on that team,
two for two future first round draft picks and Kenny
Phillips and Rickyti Francois. Wow, this was a heck MC
game this And of course that was over twenty years ago.
And Carol City is ranked I think tenth. I they've
seen as high.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
As tenth in the nation.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
They're getting an incredible amount of height, They've got a
tremendous amount of talent. And everybody talks about transfers year,
but yeah, all eleven starters on their defense have transplayed
into different school last year, several school All eleven or
three or four star prospects.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I think ten, nine or ten of the eleven.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Starters on offense played at different schools last year, and
almost all of them are three or four star prospects.
The only difference is they have a couple of five
star prospects on offense, so tremendous talent that they've got
on that team. Their head coach has done a good
job there with bringing all that together and coaching, because
they're doing a good job coaching as well. So it's
(09:57):
a big challenge for us. But you know what, what
how e this? You know, I talked to our our kids,
our staff. You could coach your whole career and never
get to play in a game.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Like this, you know, a national game right right.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Games if not the top game in the nation this week.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
So it's exciting and exciting for community, excited for our kids,
exciting for players, and you know what a great opportunity
to showcase yourself to college coaches because if you play
well in this one, boy, that sends a great message.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
It really does.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Coach, and wow, a couple of five stars, a bunch
of four stars on.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
The team and they tell like they've got to go.
So have they played a game yet this year?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yes, they did.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
They beat Daytona Beach Mainland I think thirty eight to
three past Friday night.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
You know, Daytona Beach Mainland's a traditional power.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Yeah, you know, Travis Rowland was a former head coach.
It was at Camden the last few years it's now
there were twenty twenty three state champions. So they went
into Daytona and then put on an impressive showing there.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
So you know they're they're what they're built to be.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
I mean, they're fast, they're big, they're fast, they're physical,
they're talented.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
You know. So it's gonna be a tall order four.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
But we're excited about the challenge and we feel like
we've got a pretty good football team. They're going to
come here in Leesburg. And you know, a neat thing
about this phil is you.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Know we all are are are strong rivals, heies, especially
here in South Georgia. We're strong riders with the other games.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
But when when it's something like this, you could just
feel everybody rooting for us because you know they want
us to represent and show how good a South Georgia
football is.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
We believe the best football in the.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
Nation and the best fans support, the best communities and
atmospheres are right here in South Georgia, and you know
everybody's going to be pulling for us and we want
to represent South Georgia.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Well, how did this game come about. Coach gives a
little bit of history there.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Well, we can't find anybody to play. They can't find
anybody to play. And we were put together by a
mutual group I can't remember who it was and said, hey,
they're looking for a game. You guys are looking for
a game.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
And we talked and said we're out logistics and said
let's do it. You know, I thought this would be
an ESPN game. It should be with the stars. You've
got in the gameteers. You've got the top receiver in
Georgia and read receiver in George and J. Nupshaw you
get the top grade receiver a year less numerous others.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
So I thought this would be.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
But you know, I don't fear as they're not doing
as many high school games ESPN, and they'd already had
a couple of locked in because we didn't get this
game schedule until late they already had a couple of
locked in. But uh, regardless, it's it's just a marketing matchup,
and it's gonna be a lot of exciting. It's gonna
be really exciting. But that's how that's how it came about.
Was neither of us, all of us were looking for games.
You know, it's unfortunate that we can't find more people
(12:27):
around here to play.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
But that is what it is.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
You know, Uh, we've gotta you know, we gotta, we
gotta take a week get you've got a very difficult schedule.
But again, you know, I think this really helps number
one and he forces if it helps your focus and
practice when you play a big game, it also helps
you know, you've got to uplift your play when you
play good teams.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Uh, and you're coaching and and in addition, I think people.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Realize the putting your your players on display versus these
teams just helps the recruiting process so much with your kids.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
And give me the post sure, And I think that's vital.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
You hear so many people talk about well if he
was at this school, for he was at a bigger school,
if he was at this Well the exposures a beg
part of it.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
And our schedule gives.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Are kids a ton of exploss collegies because the big
games they turn on the film for leakount if the
kid's playing, well, they know it's first great competition.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Like I said, I really wish we would be able
to play more local teams here in the area. I
think it'd be great for the communities, be great for
the gate sales, but unfortunately.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
You know that's not that's not been the case.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
But you know, we've had to pick up this game,
and like I said, it's it's gonna be a tough
one now that we've got a heck of a team.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
We've got to work cut out for us.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
But you know we've got a good team as well,
so we're excited about the challenge.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Coach, you really do and I have just so everybody knows, okay,
and I'll be happy more than having out to say this.
I have been telling coach for Brezio and Coach you
know I'm right. I've been telling the coach for Brezio
all off season. Coach, I think you've got the team,
one of the best teams you've had maybe in the
last ten years. Maybe he says he's been there, and
(14:01):
I still mean that. And then after seeing what you
guys did in dismantling a good hey Bill Charter team,
I think I still believe that. But it's gonna really
take all that talent and then some maybe a break
or two to I think to come away with.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
A win in this game. Carol Titty.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Obviously, as you've described, one of the more talented teams
in the state of Florida. So what can you tell us,
like their quarterback, what kind of offense do they run?
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Give us little bit more details.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Specifically, they're a spread offense. Uh, you know, they've got
big linemen. Uh, they've got a couple of really quick
running backs. Of course, good jobs and he throws them
all really well.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Gil Dritt.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
He can run, but they primarily more of a passer.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Yeah, they've got a couple of running backs that are
really electric. Nick lan here gets all the publicity and
deservedly so because he's.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
A phenomenal player in the Miami commitment. They've got three
other receivers.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
That are that are hot, three or four star guys
that are highly recruited. So, yeah, their kicker where he
came from, but he he kicks the heck out of
the ball. And defensively, they've got two big defensive tackles.
There are three guys that rotate on the inside that
are big and strong and high big time prospects. They've
got two long defensive ends six to four that are
(15:17):
long and athletic. The two inside backers are exceptional players,
and they've got secondary guys that.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Can all all along. You can run in athletics. So
talented team across the board. But Jim, we've got to
do a good job executing in our game. We've got
to stay on schedule.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
We can't put ourselves a second long and third longstreak.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
All security, we've got to do a great job preventing
big plays, those things. You know, one I thought you
would have got this.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
You know, we extended our state leading winning streak to
open the season seventeenth Great, that's right, hears. We have
won our opening game and over half those games have
been against ranked teams.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
So say that again, say one more time. I think
I talked maybe year.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Seventeen years in a row we have won our opening game.
That is a state leading streak. Wow, you opening day
win opening.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Game, wins uh state leading streak, and over half those
games have been against ranked teams.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
So even more impressed with that. So, you know, I
wonder a lot of times, and like.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
We try to reevaluate things every year, and are we
doing enough in the summer?
Speaker 3 (16:15):
Are we doing the right things here and there?
Speaker 4 (16:16):
And you know then I when I see something like that,
I think, well, we probably have a pretty good system here.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
If we won seventeen in a row, well that.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Is a yeah, that's exceptional.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
I'm gonna put something up on our website about that,
because pet, that's good recognition and people deserve to know,
uh you know, that kind of success. And Coach, I
can tell you there were several of those games we
were there for that we live streamed, and they were
not against against you know, against soft teams. I mean
I remember a couple of years you guys went up
to Warner Robins when Warner Robinson was in their heyday
(16:49):
and uh, you know, went up there and got to win.
You gotta win at Lee County, uh, you know when
they have some real superstars on that were I want.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
To Robins team.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
So that's quite a phenomenal record. Let me ask you
about this to coach, So this kind of goes to
what we're some you really like to I've noticed schedule teams,
and of course I know it's also about a necessity.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
As you mentioned, lot of teams.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Don't want to play yet and I get that, but
you really have like to get the season started off
with a good competitive opponent, talk about that strategy and
what it means to get that win right out of
the gate against a really solid opponent.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Well, I guess back to number one, finding whoever will
play us, because right right, I deserve to play ten games.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
But I think also it's about you know, getting ready
to play, getting ready for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
And when you play good people it does a couple
of things. Number one, I believe it makes you better
the competition. Yeah, to expose us things early. You know,
we don't want to wait till we're going into regent
play to realize, oh wait a minute, we've got to
make an.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Adjustment here, and make an adjustment there.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
You know right away when you play that competition where
you kind of shure some things up or adjustment you
have to make. And I think the third thing is
up it uplifts your display. We can talk all we
want about well our kid, and we do. We try
to keep things the same every week where as we
were playing. But there's no doubt when you're playing a
game like this this week, when you're playing at Thomas
County Central, when you're playing a culplic, when you're playing
a big game which we've got a lot of the
(18:13):
focus is just different with your players, and that in
turn helps make your team better. So I think all
those things come together to make scheduling tough, non reaching
games worth it.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
All.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Right, So you guys played Saturday instead of a Friday.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
How does that change this week's preparation at all?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Well, it won't change our preparation. It made a lot
harder on the coaches this.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Weekend not having quite the same time, you know, being
a day short preparation.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
But you know we had late and I last night,
but we were through it and we'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
You know, players get one last day of recovery over
the weekend, but they got an extra day on Friday.
So hopefully, yeah, all bounces out. It's early in the
season two, so hopefully that, like I said, hopefully that
all balances out. Fortunately, you know, we didn't you know
a lot of our starters were out of the game
by the by by the start.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
