Speaker 1 (00:16):
I know that our orchestra director Tony Cuthbert was hoping
Donald Trump would dance the YMCA dance yesterday. But it
wasn't that kind of a speech at the Detroit Economic Club.
It was supposed to be a serious address about the
economy and a visit to the auto industry on the
week that the Auto Show is just about underway here
with press days in Detroit's But Mike Cox candidate for

(00:39):
governor the Republican. He was attorney general from two thousand
and three until twenty eleven. He has run for governor
in the past, and he's going to do it again
right now. He is a candidate to be the next
governor of Michigan. And he's on our radio stage, our
AT and T line right now. Welcome back to the program.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Thank you, Michael Patrick. And by the way, he did
do that Trump dance to the YMC at the end
of the speech. So Donald Trump was Donald.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Trump in front of the Detroit Economic.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Club, Yes, sir, he's uh, he's Donald Trump. What can
I tell you? He did it? People loved it quite frankly.
Wow do well.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
This explains a lot though, And let me just try
to do a neat turn of phrase here to say
that any candidate who wants to be the next governor
of Michigan, do they have to dance to Donald Trump's
music and lockstep with him in order to get elected.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You know, I'm more like a jump fan or you know,
heavy metal or something like that. But I can do
the YMCA dance, especially like he toned it down right.
I think he made a little more cool with the
Trump dance, and that's why you see NBA and NFL
players hitting it too when they score. So I don't
know if it's for prerequisite, but we'll see.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Do you think that the president has any business endorsing
a candidate in the primary for governor a Republican.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I think the President has the business of doing what
he thinks is he's most comfortable with. So if he
does endorse a candidate in Michigan's guberentatorial primary, I know
it will be me. I'm the only one who's never
abandoned him. I was actually his lawyer. I was hired
by the Darren Sying the Trump campaign in case there

(02:31):
were electoral day issues. As I say, you know, a
fighter needed a fighter in court, and he went to me.
So John James has criticized the president, said he wasn't
fit to lead. He's abandoning the president, and the other
candidates were with Ron DeSantis over the president last year.
So if he does endorse, I would love to have it.

(02:52):
If he doesn't endorse, I'll still win. I won before
without the President's endorsement. I'll win again either way.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
He made reference again yesterday to having the election stolen
from him against Joe Biden. If you were his lawyer
and he sat across the table and said that to you,
how would you respond.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Well, I was his lawyer in twenty twenty four, and
as he said yesterday, the results were too big to rig,
and so he didn't need leave lawyers or me in
twenty twenty four. And so you know, he's focused on
the agenda of fixing the problems that Biden put upon
our country. You know, massive immigration, about illegal aliens, inflation,

(03:37):
a crazy government spending. And I think he's doing a
good job of clean up the mess. In fact, news
just came out yesterday the inflations that has ended up
the year at two point seven percent, which was progress.
So the president's moving a needle in big, big ways,
whether it's immigration, whether it's inflation and getting government spending

(03:58):
under control, and energy. How about energy? You know, Michael Patrick,
you know, you know, things like government spending and inflation
drive up cost dramatically. The presidents reducing those and we're
starting to feel it here in Michigan. And after a
little uncertainty, I think folks are feeling pretty good about
the direction. And you know, President's focused on affordability. I'm

(04:21):
focused on affordability here in Michigan. We we have to
clean up the mess of the past seven years. We've
actually when government increases spending by twenty seven billion dollars,
that makes things tighter for consumers here. When government increases
the cost of energy with the Whitmer Green news scam,
you know, we've now become the highest cost energy state

(04:43):
in the in the Midwest, twenty percent above our competitors.
So that means each and every one of your listeners
are paying more to turn on a light, paying more
to move the thermostat up in contrast to when they
go out and they buy energy at the game station
that's going down because of the President's policies. So I
think as the year progresses, voters will see a stark

(05:07):
contrast between policies that put more money in their pocket
and policies that take more money out of their pocket.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Here's President Trump yesterday saying the numbers don't lie.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Now, after less than twelve months in office, I'm back
in Michigan to report to you on the strongest and
fastest economic turnaround in our country's history. Here in history,
nobody's ever had, just based on the numbers, based only
on the numbers.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Mike Cox, did you get a chance to speak to
the president yesterday?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
I did not, but I got a chance to speak
to a lot of fired up supporters. About half the
crowd was just regular folks who bought tickets to see
the president, and the other half were business leaders, you know,
like myself, people who either run their own business like
I do, or are in middle management upper management at

(05:58):
automotive companies. And there, Michael Patrick's there was a feeling
of of you know, optimism, We're heading the right way. Look,
no one's going to say that there hasn't been struggles
for a lot of working people over the past year,
but again largely that's that's a result of the mess
of the Biden inflation. You know, crazy government spending, bad

(06:20):
economic policies, and the President's moved. You know, turning the
ship around, it takes a little bit of time. Uh.
You know, when I'm governor next year, I'm going to
turn the ship around and offer folks better opportunities and
for economic growth, more money in their pocket, get rid
of the income tax, and I'm going to work making
our schools the world's best as they were when my

(06:42):
parents immigrated. You know, my old man was a carpenter,
and when I grew up, you know, in our working
class neighborhood, every every carpenter knew they could buy their
own home. Kids go to stafe school, kids go to
a good school, and they knew every one of the
kids to move ahead here in Michigan. And we're going
to get there again.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
You mentioned business leaders. Let me ask you about business
leaders from Michigan. The author to report that urges whoever
the next governor is, to focus on education, the workforce,
and business fundamentals. Are you Are you Jake with those priorities?

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yes, sir. Look, everyone talks about the Mississippi miracle. You
probably had people on your show talking about it. You know,
how Mississippi went from forty ninth and fourth grade reading
twelve years ago to ninth. The flip side is Michigan
where we went from twenty seventh mediocre to now the bottom.
We're really forty eighth. And my granddaughters in Mississippi, Hernando,

(07:45):
Mississippi have benefited from that and they actually get a
better education. The kids in my neighborhood in Lavonia, Michigan
and Michael Patrick I went to a graduation there high
school Graduation, Hernando, Mississippi. Last May, the senior class had
three hundred and thirty five kids in it. The ninth

(08:05):
grade class had five hundred. Think about that's the fifty
percent growth in that high school. And what that tells
you is when you get education right, you your economy
turners around because that becomes a job creator, a job attractor.
And so if we fix the overburdensome whitmer agenda that's

(08:25):
sagged Michigan's economy, we strip away overspending and we free
up entrumpreneurs. We put more money in everyone's pockets in
the private sector, we will start to grow. And if
we just do the simple things on education, you know,
more school choice, phonics and schools, the science of reading,
you know, tutoring for kids who are struggling first or

(08:47):
second grade. You know, my granddaughter is autistic in Mississippi.
In order to go to fourth grade even though she
was in special that she had the show that she
could read.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Bless her and yours too, Sir.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Our path to a top ten state is only as
strong as our strength of commitment. It's time to compete
to win. When we do better by our kids, invest
in people, accelerate our economy, and get the fundamentals right,
we will feel a powerful win in our sales that
will move Michigan over it. That's a top ten State

(09:50):
Business Leaders for Michigan is the state's business Roundtable. We're
committed to make Michigan more competitive. Time to be bold, Michigan.
It's time to compete to.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,

(10:24):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts

(10:47):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation, from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit miiblue
