Speaker 4 (01:14):
Doctor Akira Olsen is a renowned clinical psychologist and author
of the Journey to Self, a transformative guide that empowers
readers to heal, grow, and build a positive relationship with themselves.
And doctor Akira is with us here. How are you today?
Pretty good?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Thank you, Toby.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
So what was it that inspired you to write this
book The Journey to Self?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
After working with clients, you know, thousands of clients gen
Ziers and millennials of the past decade, I wanted to
write about you know, mental mental health, wellness, self development

(02:01):
and self care for them.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
And the book is described as a life changing experience.
So what is it that makes it that life changing
experience and sets it apart from other sort of mental
health GUIDs.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
My book has you know, daily practical you know, small
exercises to achieve wellness, mental health, optimal mental health and
happiness and you know, personal growth using empirical data, which

(02:36):
research supported tools and the houristic approaches.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
One of the themes in the book is setting boundaries.
Why is it that we often feel guilty about saying no?
And how can we start to move past that?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
It's definitely self awareness and accepting self. You know, emotions
and thoughts, feedings and understanding you know, self, compassion, self
respect require healthy boundaries.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
With others, And what would you say are some of
the practical first steps someone can take to start protecting
their well being through having better boundaries.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I would recommend that you know, you can turn from
mindful breathing meditation and body scam meditation every morning five
to ten minutes, so that helps you to kind of
accept own feedings, thoughts, and emotions. So foundation for self love, compassion,

(03:50):
self esteem, and that help you to get over self doubt.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
And you're right about embracing growth and loving with purpose.
What does living with purpose look like in real, everyday life?

Speaker 3 (04:07):
We need purpose to live and that's something that you
can find your own purpose when you accept love yourself.
It's not a narcissistic way of loving. It's more appreciating

(04:28):
your own life being, and that's a start.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
The book includes a lot of practical exercises as well.
So do you have a favorite one that's had a
profound impact on your clients or maybe even the readers.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I have many books that impacted my personal growth, and
you know, triggered me to write this book. I would say,
you know doctor Nef's, Christine Neft's Self Compassion, and other
books like I think there are so many books. But

(05:06):
mind a set, uh doctor cal Duac mindset, those books
are pretty impactful to my own personal growth.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
And in terms of your book, how do you recommend
the readers go through it? I mean should they read
it slowly and sort of reflectfully or can it be
used as a sort of go to toolkit when the
challenges come up and you don't necessarily have to read
it all at once?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
That really so leaders can be you know each chapter
or you know each section every day you can each set,
each chapter, each section. You don't need to read all
at once.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
And if somebody listening right now maybe feels overwhelmed or
lost or disconnected, what's one small step that they could
take a day to begin their journey to self?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I would recommend you know, you create the personal time
and space for fifteen minutes a day, like morning or
you know you are in daytime or in bedterm, so
so you you can allow yourself to you know, express emotions, feelings,

(06:29):
to do kind of journaling. And also, you know, I
put you know, I created a lot of techniques tools
to accept yourself without judgment and you know, talk to
yourself kindly, you know, love angry, and appreciate your you know,

(06:51):
your being presents and I want you, you know, leaders
to start the practice which I wrote in.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
My book What's Next for you? Are there any more
books on the horizon or any other projects connected to
the Journey to Self?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yes? So I am actually uh you know, working on
the Johnny to Self uh you know sequel, so you know,
deepening this Journey to Self.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
So you know, I want to kind of create a
walk book for readers who eed my books so that
they can you know, use the Johnny to Self book
tools more easily.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Well in the meantime, this book is of course called
The Journey to Self and it's by yourself, doctor Akira Olsen.
So where are all the places that we're able to
find that book?

Speaker 3 (07:48):
So the book is found in Amazon right now, and
you can, you know, uh write the title the Johnny
to Self a Kira awesome, you will find my book.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
And if there was one message that you'd want to
leave with the listener today, what would that be?

Speaker 3 (08:10):
It takes time to go through your journey to feel
you know complete. It took me even you know, it
took you know, decades for me to get to this point.
And that's why I wrote this book that you know,
based on research, evidence based tools, with holistic approaches, you know, mind, body,

(08:37):
heart relationships, and so be patient with your journey. It
might take longer than you think, but you know, also
it's fun to leave your own Johnny.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Absolutely, well, many thanks for joining us today. It's been
great to have you on the show.
