Speaker 1 (00:37):
Hey everyone, Hey everyone, how are you today? And so
we're going to talk about opportunities today. And sometimes we
consider and we're looking for the big, big sign that
says opportunity is here, maybe a real big neon sign, Hey,
(01:02):
here's your next opportunity. But really, opportunities really show up
in that manner. My own experience is that, you know,
opportunities have shown up and challenges that I might have
come across, or maybe even conversations that I might have had,
(01:23):
or maybe even just those quiet moments when I'm sitting
back reflecting or something. So, So here's something that I
would like for you to consider that that when you've
done some of the internal along with the external work,
you'll recognize and act upon them with confidence. So what
(01:52):
we need to do in moments like that we need
to make sure that we are prepared when those opportunities
come up, because preparation will now turn your panic into
being present. And so for myself, if someone were to
(02:13):
in very early stages of Chisholm Group LLC that if
someone would come to me and ask me a question,
and again, I would just go based off of some
of the things I was doing, whether it was a
logo or a flyer in a very early stages because
(02:35):
I didn't know how to get it done necessarily, I
didn't have a processing place on what questions to ask,
how the customer was feeling about it, what was the
the case use for that flyer and or for that logo,
(02:58):
and understanding whatever really meant that if we use some colors, right,
because the colors do have meeting, they bring feelings with them.
You know, do we understand, Maurice, do you really understand
what that means? Let alone what does that mean for
their client? And does it really mean that this flyer
and or this logo represents their mission in any and
(03:20):
everything that they do. So preparation sometimes you have to
sit back in those quiet moments and pretend, pretend that
you're going to get that phone call, pretend that you're
(03:40):
going to get an opportunity to present in front of
a group. You might need to start to pretend about, Hey,
you know what, I'm going to launch that project. I'm
going to consult this organization. So that way you can
start to get your thoughts together, and you can get
(04:00):
your ideas together. You can understand what things that might
be missing to have a more complete and or well
rounded presentation or a speak or a speech, or understanding
what the steps are for a launch of a project.
(04:27):
So is that where you utilize gant charts or whatever
it might be. So are you prepared to put yourself
in that position? And then are you able to start
building on that today. So at one particular time, I
thought that I was preparing way too much. I was
(04:48):
looking at way too many YouTube videos in reading way
too many books. But I didn't understand the real value
in that until later on. Where now there's some things
I could just roll off the top of my head
and or I could say, you know what, I don't
understand that topic one hundred percent. Now let me go
back and refer to that moment that hey, you know
(05:13):
I read it in this book. Let me go find
that book or you know what, let me get the
YouTube cliff notes on it. But are you prepared? Are
you ready for those scenarios in those situations? I can
tell you I wasn't. I wasn't always ready. So one
(05:34):
of the things that we can do to prepare for that,
we can dedicate five to ten minutes a day, fifteen
minutes a day to just learning something new, reviewing what
our goals are, maybe even refining that skill so that
(05:56):
when something comes up, we're not it's an urgent situation,
it's not a panic. You don't have to delay the process.
You already know what that process would be. So, for
an example, if someone says, and I only can speak
about my own experiences, and where I would panic. Where
(06:18):
someone says, hey, I need a flyer for tomorrow, and Maurice,
what is your process of getting that done? So I
would sit there and be all frantic or whatever it is.
And I just had a conversation about this particular thing
with someone in the past, not too long ago, where
(06:39):
we realized that in those cases, sometimes when people are
coming to you at the last minute, what's the problem
with using a template? Using a template, especially if they
come to you last minute. Evidently they're not in some
cases that worried about it. They just need to get
(07:00):
something out there. Now, I'm not saying use something like
some type of word processing software and they could use
the clip ard like we used to use back in
the day. I'm not saying do that. They want something
a little more professional. But you can take a template,
change up the words a little bit, maybe change some fonds,
Maybe it changed a little bit of color. Maybe you
(07:21):
saved yourself two or three hours trying to hand draw
something or trying to figure out whether or not you
need to use a gradient in this place or that place,
or you know what, maybe I need to take a
flower or some type of radio imagery or linear lines,
(07:44):
whatever it might be. You know these type of things that, hey,
you know what, when that's time for me to sit
down and to design something, what I have in mind
may not always come out on paper. So sometimes maybe
you utilizing a template can help streamline your situation. So
those type of things, when you learn that these options
or these opportunities are out there, you're not in a
(08:09):
panic type mode. It took me a long time to
get to that point of understanding what that was and
then even in utilizing those templates, it also helped me
to refine some of my skill in doing that. Yes
(08:29):
I went to school for it, Yes I did some things.
But as time has has gone on and technology has changes,
and there's certain other buttons to use that to help
do some better shortcuts and all these type of things.
And guess what you know, if you're not in school consistently,
how do you know and how are you aware of
(08:51):
all these things? So sometimes sometimes templates can be everything
you can for Sometimes temples could be just a very
start to get something just rolling, because sometimes some people
are not playing paper useful like that, Like you know,
(09:13):
they look at a piece of plain paper and they
get brain farts and all those type of things. And
that's perfectly fine as well. But sometimes you need something
that's going to help jump start you. And so are
you preparing for that moment? Are you preparing yourself? Do
you have the time, the equipment, the resources to say,
(09:34):
you know what, next time this person calls me, I
am prepared. So when you have that quiet moment, when
you have that opportunity to reflect, start building that product today.
(09:56):
Start looking at that opportunity today, because again opportunities when
they come calling. Is not always flashing lights. I'll talk
to you a little bit later.
