Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon, Welcome on the Culture News.
My name is David so Royan. I have the pleasure
to have to do on iHeart Radio on the Culture News.
Wonderful star producer. Her name is Sophia Yepes. Let me
expect it for you. It's Yepes. She is absolutely wonderful

(00:21):
and she's part of this extraordinary new film called The
Sweetest Skilled, The Sweetest Skilled. We're so glad to have
her today, the one and only Sofia Yepes. Sofia, how
are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Hello? I am very very well. I'm amazing. In fact,
how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
If you are amazing, then I'm super amazing. You know,
we're so glad to have you. Thank you so much
for being here with us, and congratulations on all the
great things that you're doing. So first question I have
for you, can you tell us where you're from and
how did you arrive to this industry? Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Hm, great question. I am. I was born in Columbia,
in Managing, Columbia, and I was brought as a little
baby girl to New York City. So I was raised
in New York Queens, New York. And how did I
arrive into this industry. Well, I was that kid who

(01:21):
was acting always forever. I mean as soon as I
can talk, I was acting. And I always said I
was going to be an actress. I always said I
was an actress. And around my college years, my cousin
was actually dating an actor and he was going to
be in a short film. And my cousin then told him, well,

(01:46):
I have a cousin. She's an actress. Can she get
an audition? And he's like, yeah, of course, and he
got me the audition, and at that point I freaked
out because I had never acted in anything before in
my life. I've never taken an audition, class, ever done
an audition, nothing. And I was like, no, no, don't like,
get rid of that audition. I can't do it. I've
never done it before. And she's like, well, I don't care.

(02:08):
I like this guy. You need to go to the
audition so I don't look bad. And so I went
to the audition because my cousin yelled at me, and
then I booked it and that's how I ended up
in the industry. I loved it. It was a great
short film. We won tons of awards, and I never
looked back since.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Well, We're so glad that destiny brought you to us
and brought you to this wonderful industry. Sofia yepist. So
now fast forwarding to this great new film called Sweetest Skilled,
The Sweetest Skill? Sorry, how were you involved? How did
you get to be involved with this great new film?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Well, oddly enough, the writer and director of that short film,
the very first short film that I was ever in
first audition I ever had. I became really good friends
with him, and we knew each other still twenty years later,
you know, we both we met in New York, but
we ended up both living in Los Angeles. And I

(03:10):
went to him and I said, you know what I'm
tired of, you know, kind of waiting for the opportunity
to not Let's make our own opportunity. And so we
wrote a film together and we and you know, we
produced it. And that's how The Sweetest Kill came about.
We made the opportunity for ourselves.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
And can you pitch us a little bit about the
story of that wonderful film? What is the Sweetest Kill?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
The Sweetest Kill is a story about a young lady.
She is a beats producer. She her dream is to
become this big, you know, music producer, and in the
meantime to kind of get by, she's working for a mobster.
She's working for a very very dangerous drug lord, and

(04:01):
she ends up falling in love with this woman who's
also a singer, and finds out that this woman owes
money to some really dangerous people. So she decides to
steal from her boss, the very dangerous struggler, to pay
for her debts, and then chaos and.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Sus there you go. I love how you say it.
So before we start to say goodbye to each other,
what are your next project? What is next for you?

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I'm working on a few projects, not really able to
talk too much about it, but I am also diving
into the TV world. I'm working on a series that's
really exciting also about a young lady who's very gritty
and part of the streets who kind of comes into
Los Angeles and there's a fish out of water. So yeah,

(04:52):
I'm kind of diving into a lot of different areas.
I'm mostly excited right now about that TV series and
something that I'm doing with single moms, trying to get
back to the community and contribute a little bit. And
see I'm a single mom myself, so I want to
to do something for my fellow single mamas.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well, absolutely you have all my support and for all
these single mamas as you say, you know, absolutely absolutely,
we're so glad to have you. We love your energy,
we love what you do. Sophia Yeapes be spelling for you.
