Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, everybody, Welcome to the christin Agophian Show. Shout outs
from everybody here in Studio B as we connect with
our two hundred plus stations coast to coast via the
BIZ Talk Radio and BBS Radio Networks. Greetings to you all.
This week's show is brought to you by our caring
sponsors at Elite Rehab. Because everyone knows a family that's
(00:26):
fighting the effects of today's substance abuse epidemic. If someone
you care about needs help, pick up the phone. Eight
hundred nine three two four zero a two. Help the
ones you love put that chapter behind them. Eight hundred
nine three two four zero a two. Sitting here, coffee
in hand, looking out the window at another gorgeous fall
(00:47):
day we're getting snow here in the Philadelphia area. Lord
have mercy. We are definitely looking at wintertime now and
hope you're all having a fabulous week.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I want to jump right into today's subject matter. Later
on in the hour. We're having a fabulous diabetes diabetes expert,
a doctor, a person who's really battling this back really nicely.
And for this first segment, I want to go over
because this is something diabetes I don't have it, but
you know, we all know family members who have got it,
and it's something that's really kind of jumping off the
(01:19):
charts these days, not only diabetes, but raised blood sugar. Okay,
so the subject matter for today is talking about battling
back that high blood sugar numbers, which doesn't just lead
to diabetes. A lot of the time. It can lead
to weight gain, It can lead to just feeling sluggish,
It can kind of tear down your immune system a bit.
There's a lot of reasons that you want to keep
(01:40):
your blood sugar low, not just if you've been diagnosed diabetic,
even if you haven't, if you have a family history
of it, if you think that you're somewhere in the
risk you know area for that kind of thing. Today,
for this first segment, we're talking about easy, inexpensive ways
to lower your blood sugar really really effectively. Number one
(02:01):
and I hate this one as much as as much
as you just don't roll your eyes of me. Exercising regularly.
This doesn't have to mean run a fifteen mile marathon, Okay,
on a daily basis, you don't take twenty minutes a
day stretch walk, do anything other than sitting in your seat,
and guys, you're listening to a radio talk show host.
(02:22):
I have a master's degree in sitting in my seat. Okay,
I get it. I gotta get up more often as well.
We're all in this together. Regular exercise not only will
help you lose weight when nothing else can, but it
increases insolent sensitivity. This is important. It's not just some
blah blah blah doctors talk. Here's what it does. Increased
insolent sensitivity means your cells are better able to use
(02:45):
the available sugar in your bloodstream. That leads to the
ripple effect of losing weight faster, getting healthier, and plunging
your risk for diabetes. If you do have diabetes, or
you're thinking about someone that you love who does us,
this is the kind of thing that helps them manage
their symptoms beautifully. Okay, And it doesn't Again, it doesn't
(03:06):
have to be some crazy you know, gym membership nuttiness
where you're there working out an hour a day twenty
minutes a half hour tops, and you can spread it
out during the day ten minutes three times a day.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Bottom line, exercise greatly increases your insolent sensitivity, which is
exactly what you want, whether you're trying to drop a
few pounds, whether you're trying to manage some diabetes symptoms.
And it helps your muscles pick up sugars from the blood,
which will no argument, lead to reduce blood sugar levels.
(03:39):
It's all good. Next up, and this one has worked
for me effortlessly when it comes to lowering my weight,
Oh my lord, we're on our path. We're on the
path for that. And for people out there who are
trying to drop a few pounds, who are trying to
lower their risk of diabetes. If you've got people in
your family tree who have it, maybe a spouse or
someone you care about you has it, you're trying to
(04:01):
help them with their symptoms as well. One of the
top tools in your toolbox is controlling your carb intake.
Your body breaks carbs down into sugars, mostly glucose, which
you know is a big, fab bad word when it
comes to diabetes and lowering your blood sugar, and then
insulin moves the sugar into cells, all right, So when
you eat too many carbs or you're having problems with
(04:22):
your insulin function, the process fails. The blood glucose level
spike and then your risk for diabetes goes through the roof.
And people who you know who are fighting diabetes, it's
just a bad place for them. There are several things
you can do about this. If you control your carbs.
I'm talking seriously, put a lockdown on them, and you
just own it. Will we all love a big play
(04:44):
to spaghetti. I ever find out the huge meteorite is
heading towards earth, it's me and a popcorn bowl full
of spaghetti. I'm right there with you. In the meantime,
we got reality. And when your body is going to
be really benefiting huge from reducing the carb intake, just
do it. Okay, carbs again, bottom line, carbs are broken
down into glucose, which raise blood sugar levels. That's bad.
(05:06):
You want to gain some weight, keep up with the carbs.
You want to lower your weight. You want to greatly
lower your risk of diabetes. If you want to really
control your diabetes, shut down the carbs. You own it,
you master it, make it happen. Next up, increase your
fiber intake. I can't believe I used to be cool,
I used to be hip, and now I'm talking about
fiber intake with enthusiasm. All right, I hear the voice
(05:28):
coming out of my mouth. I get this, but hear
me out. Fiber slows carb digestion and sugar absorption, and
for these reasons, it promotes a more gradual rise in
blood sugar levels. Okay, bottom line, eating plenty of fiber,
and I'm talking about fun stuff. Get you know, get
some mixed nuts, They're good, you know, Get the high
(05:49):
fiber bread. If you're gonna do bread. Here's something I do.
And again, do not mock me, because it works. And yes,
I used to be cool. I will always own that.
I may not be cool now, but I've got some
high fiber intake. You take ground up flax seeds which
you can get anywhere, and mix them into peanut butter.
Have that for a snack. It is a dynamite, amazing
high fiber. All right, I got about five minutes before
(06:10):
the break. I want to get more of these. In
drink water, stay hydrated. It doesn't take a crazy high fructose,
high sugary drink to stay hydrated. Please just pick up
some water, okay. Staying hydrated reduces blood sugar levels, helps
prevent diabetes. Simple as that boom. Water is best Next up,
choose foods with a low glycemic index. All right, you
(06:33):
know what this is. You've all heard of this, but
just for the few people left un earth, you haven't.
Glycemic index was developed to assess the bodies blood sugar
response to foods that contain carbs. In regular Layman's terms.
The higher a glycemic index, and I'm talking really high
glycemic index is our white sugar, white flour. You know,
a beautiful toasted bagel, we all love them. But if
(06:56):
you're trying to master your carbs, don't go for the bagels.
Don't go for the sh sugar. Foods with a low
glycemic index. Here's what we got, meat, eggs, you know,
barley and nice barley, soup, beans, lentils, legoomes. Here's a
good one. I consider this like a good high five,
you know, a good highs whatever, starch. I love sweet potatoes.
(07:18):
I love sweet potatoes desperately. They are my carb of choice,
and they've got a really low glycemic index. They're good
for you. So if you're in the mood for the potatoes,
but you're trying to go lean a little healthier, get
a sweet potato instead. It's a beautiful thing. Next step
monitor your blood sugar levels. Now I don't do this, however,
because I don't have diabetes. I'm not pre diabetic. I'm
(07:40):
just trying to lose some weight. So I'm managing the
sugar that I'm eating, and I'm drinking a lot more water,
getting the exercise in, and it's so freaking annoyingly effective.
I'm still doing it. We're dropping a lot of pounds here.
It feels great. But if you are, say pre diabetic,
or say you are diabetic, you're trying to knock it back,
or you're just a wonderful geek about your health and
(08:01):
you're monitoring your blood sugar. Anyway, measuring and monitoring blood
glucose levels will help you control them. If you maintain
a log with this every day, it's gonna help you
adjust foods, help you adjust any medications, maybe lower the medications.
There's good reasons for monitoring this stuff. This next one
I love because not only is it super effective, it's
(08:23):
free getting enough sleep. You guys, I'm right there with you.
I mean, there are several things on this earth that
I would put aside, I mean, fun adult things in
order to get more sleep. I mean, it's embarrassing again
see my earlier notes on how I used to be cool,
but I would happily like put off a fabulous evening
out dancing movie whatever, if I got a couple extra
(08:44):
hours sleep. It's pathetic, but it's true, and I'm probably
not alone. But getting enough sleep it feels great. It's
necessary for good health. Poor sleeping habits, a lack of rest,
also affect blood sugar levels and insolent sensitivity boom. They
can also this stinks. They can also increase appetite and
promote weight gain if you don't get enough sleep. Sleep
(09:06):
deprivation also highlighted in several you know, Rambo torture movies. Whatever,
you know, when it's a form of torture, it's bad,
all right. Sleep deprivation an actual form of torture. And
we're doing it to ourselves deliberately because we got work
to do, we got cleaning to do. We want to have,
you know, some nice quality time with family and friends.
I get it. Get yourself more sleep. Chances are excellent.
(09:26):
I don't you know. I don't know your sleep patterns,
per se. I love hearing from you all every week.
Chances are if you are anything like me, you're not
getting enough sleep, and looking at these reports, holy crap,
A good sleep is here you go. I'm saying this
flat out from doctor's reports here. Furthermore, good sleep is
about both quantity and quality. You laying there in a
bed doesn't count as sleep. You have to actually be
(09:48):
sleeping for that. If you find yourself tossing and turning
up the exercise a little bit more, I'm talking just
by ten minutes more a day, you're gonna find your
sleep goes through the roof. It's annoying, but it's true.
This I gotta get before the break. Eat foods rich
and chromium and magnesium. Magnesium one of my favorites. All right,
this is the best part. Not only dark leafy greens, yawn,
(10:10):
whole grains, also dark chocolate. I do dark chocolate every day.
Magnesium rich everyone's in winter. Chromium rich foods, egg, yolks,
whole grain products, high brand, cereals, brand, I'm talking brand.
I used to be cool. Coffee, amen, nuts, green beans,
broccoli and meat, beautiful stuff. Next up, try apple cider.
(10:32):
Vinegar has huge benefits for your health, including helping to
control blood sugar. Who knew, Go out, get a bottle
of apple cider vinegar. It goes with a bunch of
other stuff. Research it yourself. You'll see exactly what I'm
talking about. Guys, hang out for a minute. We'll be
right back right after this small I'm not too steel.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
The best of all.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Circumstances, and we are back with the Christian Gotein show.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
And guys, it's official. The holidays are upon it. It's
the best of all worlds. I'm still naching on my
kids Halloween candy and it's still available for about half
off in all the stores, and we've got the holidays
upon it. It's a beautiful propect of sugary happiness. And
here's the next thing that I'm hearing.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
On the news.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Forecasts are showing that about sixty five percent of Americans
are planning to travel between Thanksgiving and New Year's and
those numbers shouldn't surprise me, but they do. It's just
remarkable the energy people are putting into this. I always
stay put. I got a lot of family near me,
but I talk to a lot of people who are
planning some intense travel. And while it's great catching up
(11:55):
with family and friends whether you're traveling or not traveling,
it's also important to prioritize our health. Maybe this time
a year more than any other. You got chili weather,
you got some seriously altered sleep patterns, you got a
lot of food coming in front of you. Maybe that's
just me, but in all seriousness, your health is paramount.
And here joining a R Newsmaker line to tell us
(12:15):
more about how we can have all the fun we
want while still prioritizing our health. We've got doctor Fairchild
joining a CR Newsmaker line.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Welcome sir, thanks for having me on Christin.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Well, it's a pleasure to have you. So happy holidays
first of all, coming up to you. Now, you've got
a unique vantage point because you see patients coming in
going out all year, but you are so right the
holidays in particular, we want to take very special care
of our health. You know, talk to us about any
kind of pre holiday pre tip advice you have for
(12:49):
all of our listeners coast to coast to keep our
travel safe and worry free and keep the germs down
at the same time.
Speaker 6 (12:56):
Yeah, nobody plans on getting sick when they travel, but
we all know that that can happen, and the best
thing to do is be prepared. So one thing folks
can do is make sure they've got enough of their
prescription medicine. You'd be surprised at how many people leave
the house and only realize after they've gotten to their
(13:16):
destination that they forgot to get their refill. That's to
be avoided if possible. The other thing is get those
vaccines that make sense for you. The flu vaccine is available,
it's not too late to get a flu shot. We
know that the flu virus is still out there, and
the covid vaccine is available. We certainly know that covid
(13:38):
is circulating. I got both my flu and covid vaccines
a couple of weeks ago. The other thing I do
that's totally anticipatory, but I find it very useful. I
have a travel kit that I've put together with over
the counter medicines, and I've added to it over the
years because I find it very helpful to have over
(13:59):
the counter medais, whether it's for a fever or for
diarrhea or whatever. I'm always amazed at how often I'm
pulling a medicine out of that for somebody in the
family who's gotten sick while we're traveling, and then the
last thing I would say, as a primary care doctor
for many years, if you've got complicated medical problems, check
with your doctor before you leave town.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
It's so true. And I'm taking notes as we're talking
here because you're bringing up so many good points. And
I think you and I are both showing our age
because you know, when we were kids, even when we
were in our twenties, oh whatever, we'll get there. If
we need something, we'll grab at the drug store. But
it's only after, you know, we get older, maybe we
get married, maybe we have kids, and you realize that
when you have your ducks in a row prior to
(14:41):
the holidays, it is the difference between having a really,
really great time and maybe scrambling for stuff that you
didn't have to scramble for. You talk about the vaccines,
it's so true, especially as we become more of a
worldwide world again, you know, everybody's traveling everywhere. And I
like your idea about having the prescriptions. I had a
buddy of mine this secondhand. But I had a buddy
of mine who your kids are allergic to a good
(15:05):
couple of things, and she is so organized, she is
so on top of it. By pure who knows what.
All the allergy medicines stayed at home, And of course
you could always get more. If you call your doctor,
they'll get you know, they'll take care of it for you.
But man, can it be a pain when you don't
remember everything that you need. You are so true. Now,
in addition to our physical health, you've got a lot
(15:26):
of people out there, and this is so true. Like
in our household, we're pretty blessed, but you've got a
lot of, you know, anxiety going on. We're spastic, we're
pretty loud in our family tree, but there isn't a
huge amount of anxiety. But that's not the case for
so many other families out there, so many hard working households.
They face a lot more anxiety this time of year.
(15:46):
And your heart goes out theme you want to give
a big hug to everybody. But in all seriousness, from
your perspective as a doctor, how do you counsel our
listeners coast to coast when it comes to any kind
of impending anxiety or stress or if they think is
around the corner? How do we kind of help talk
our loved ones out of their tree during the holidays.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Yeah, well, you're so right. Kristin.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
The holidays can be very stressful for folks and focusing
on self care is important, and that can be getting exercise.
So I'm a big fan of exercise, moving your body,
whether it's going out for a walk or a jog,
whatever is available to you. That's so important. Keeping up
with your sleep, keeping balanced nutrition in mind. Now, I'll
(16:32):
admit I'm the first one to grab the apple pie
and ice cream when it comes around, but it's also important,
you know, keep up with your fruits and vegetables as well.
But if people are feeling stressed and lonely, one of
the nice things about Miniciclinic is that we have mental
health counselors available as well. We have them in brick
(16:54):
and mortar locations in some locations, but most people access
them virtually forty nine states. For people who are aged
thirteen or or older, you can access a mental health.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Counselor through the Meniclinic dot com.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
And you know, if you're stressed, like you said, depressed
or feeling anxious or lonely, need somebody to talk to,
We've got an easy way for people to reach out
and have a talk to a mental health counselor.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
The other I think loneliness. You touched on this.
Speaker 6 (17:26):
Loneliness is a real issue, and you know, particularly around
the holidays, it's easy for people to feel lonely. My
wife and I were a blended family and our kids
actually are with their other half of the family typically
on the holidays like Thanksgiving. So my wife and I
(17:48):
have taken to volunteering and we found it a great
way to get back to the community and be connected
to other people on a day where it might otherwise
feel a little bit lonely.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
So people can think ahead. There are often church groups
or community groups that are getting.
Speaker 6 (18:04):
Together, but volunteering is a great way to help out,
and you know, it makes you feel good at the
end of the day.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
I love that we are so simpatico. This is fantastic.
You lost me completely at that whole exercise concept. I'm
going to look that up. I promise to get back
to you on that. But in all seriousness, this is
wonderful advice for you know, an exhausted population. You know,
we're all trying to do everything at once. The holidays
can really bring things to a head, and this is
(18:30):
fantastic advice. Yeah, we got CBS as coast to coast.
We've got a lot here in the Philadelphia area. They're
always packed for a good reason. What you do is
so important and I knew the time with fly doctor
gives that website again where our listeners can go to
get more information if you would.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
Yeah, people can go to Meniclinic dot com. There's also
a CVS Health app that people can download and that
has the ability to schedule an in person or a
virtual visit for mental health, behavioral health or physical health issue.
So it's a great app to have on your phone
so you're ready when something comes up.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Brilliant doctor David Fairchild, I knew the time, was fly
Chi's medical officer, CBS Health. Thank you so much for
all that you do. You've got an open mic anytime.
Happy holidays to you and yours and to be well.
We'd love to have you back to me, Ken.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Thanks for having me on, Kristin, You've bet and we'll
be right back gang right after this.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
To the best.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
And we are back with the Christian Egopian Show. And
I've been looking so forward to having our next guest
back on the air with this because you guys, I
don't know, is it just me I feel like we
suddenly went from Easter to like now, the Thanksgiving, Christmas holidays.
It's unbelievable. I'm grateful for it, don't get me wrong,
but my planning is just nowhere near where it needs
(20:07):
to be. And shoppers maybe like you too, this holiday season.
You know, we're all expected to put the value before volume.
You know, that's been words that I've used a lot.
We're also supposed to not only expect, but also send out,
you know, the needed gifts, the needed goods. And there's
four major groups. Tell me if I'm right or wrong here,
there's four major groups to shop for. You guys know
(20:28):
who these people are. You can fill in the names
with faces. We've got the doers, you know, I think
a lot of you know, people in my family fall
into that category. The comfort seekers, you know, maybe some
of the retirees. Who knows, the next gen, which a
lot of us with school age kids. We know what
we're talking about. And the companions, you know, those wonderful
people that put up with us year round and deserve
(20:48):
a little something come the holidays. Right, So what do
we get for those in our family who fit into
these categories? Well? Joining us via our newsmaker line. To
explain this and to show some holiday gift idea is
for the whole family. Back by popular demand. Marty scold
Jordan from Tractor Supply, she's our wonderful, fabulous brand ambassador
and Chris Sirah, District Manager of Tractor Supply, Welcome guys,
(21:11):
Happy holidays, Oh happy holidays.
Speaker 7 (21:14):
This is a fun time of year to look at
that list, check it twice and come into.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Tractors Well, and you know why because Tractor Supply here's
one of the biggest polls, one of the biggest draws
for stores like yours. It's one stop shopping. You know,
remember when we were kids and everything was supposed to
be so easy. By like twenty twenty, we were all
going to be like, you know, flying around in flying
chairs and we'd have to work one day a week
and there'd be all kinds of free time. Well, that
(21:39):
hasn't quite panned out, and come the holidays, we need
one stop shopping to get this stuff, you know exactly
where we wanted. So talk to me a bit, Marty
about your thoughts regarding that group that we talked about before,
the doers, the comfort seekers, the next gen, the companions,
talk to me about what you're seeing out there on
the streets. As to the top for all those wonderful
(22:01):
people in our lives.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
Absolutely, So let me break down those four categories for you,
Kristen and listeners. I think we all fall into one
of them, maybe multiple, but let's start about the doer.
We know that person. They love projects, they love tinkering
in the garage, the basement, the barn. They're the folks
that want their hands in the soil making those beautiful gardens.
(22:23):
They always have a task or a project going on.
That's the first category. Second category I fit right in
this one. It is the comfort seeker. You want peace, tranquility, wellbeing.
You're looking for something comforting and cozy, and especially this
time of year as temperatures tumble. Next gen, that's the youth.
(22:45):
That's the kids. There's really some awesome toy ideas. And
then we've got the companions and those are our pets.
There are furry friends, there are feathered friends, and there
really are gifts that work in these categories really well
for folks.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
That is brilliant. I'm taking notes as we're talking here
because you're bringing up so many awesome points right, Chris,
I'm going to switch over to you if I could.
Let's start with the doers on our list. We've all
got a whole bunch of doers on our list. With
any luck, we're considered the doers on our family and
friends' lists as well. What gift suggestions are you seeing
really standing out out there for those people that we
(23:24):
love who just live to get things done. What seemed
to be the top handful of gifts that they're really
enjoying this year.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
Absolutely, and being a doer myself, this is part of
one of the things I really love. So we have
actually partnered with Field and Stream recently, which is an amazing,
amazing vendor out there. However, though, I'm telling you a
lot of customers are coming in our store and they're
asking for unique items, and one of those items are
trail cams. Trail cams are just absolutely flying off the shelves.
(23:51):
Field and Stream actually put a brand new trail came
out there. It gives you viewing pleasure of your yard,
your plot that you have of land, and let me
tell you, it is just viewing for hours. Also, if
you're sitting there doing that, why not have a tumbler
like a stocking stuff or throw in there. It kind
of correlates together, right, So you could have a hot
(24:12):
beverage in there, keeps it at your temperature for you know,
a couple of hours in there and just you know,
view your yard is for beauty. Also one of my
personal favorites, and we're seeing this in the store slide
off the show, is that the wall radio. This thing
is cool. So if you got the person home that
door at home that wants that radio, let me tell
(24:34):
you something. It's lightweight, it's bluetooth. You put a battery
on it. So if you're gardening, guess what, you can
listen to some tunes. If you're sitting there in your
garage and you're just tinkering around it's raining out or relaxing,
put some music on. So it's really cool out there.
And we have tons more items that we are selling
this holiday season, you know, with the wall brands and
other brands as well. For those doers.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
That is so freaking cool, you know what I love.
Two things stood out about what you're talking about is
number one, the fact that we're thinking kind of old
school again. There's no school like the old school. I mean,
get back to nature a little bit, God forbid in
your hard working days, spend ten minutes outside in some
nice fresh air with the blue skyshine and Anya, I
love that. Second thing that you made me think of
(25:17):
is the fact that so many of the gifts you
just described were, you know, on the scene maybe five
ten years ago, you know, in their infancy and crazy expensive.
Not so today. If you saw stuff where you're thinking, oh,
I'd love to get that for dad or mom or whoever,
I know it's got to be still way too expensive,
not so much. Take a look at it right now.
Go on to tractor supply, take a look around. You
(25:37):
are going to be dazzled at the fact that a
lot of these things are right in our sweet spot
when it comes to the spending range for this. Thank
God makes me so happy these days, Marty. Back to you.
Tell us what you are seeing out there on the
street as opposed like what we should be getting for
like the comfort seekers on our list. I've got a
couple in my repertoire. They are amazing. They've been through
(25:59):
the ring or the past year. You just want to
show up, love, What do you you know?
Speaker 2 (26:03):
What are you.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Suggesting for the comfort seekers this year.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
Well, you want to give them something where they're seeking
comfort and they have it. So I don't know about you,
but I have that one jacket that's comfortable, it's cozy,
and that I want to have it on when I'm
taking the dog for a walk or or doing something
running to the store. Vintage Threads has these really wonderful
teddy Bear feel Lease. It's a zip up jacket that
(26:29):
comes in the cutest designs. Carhart has the thicker hooted
purple camouflage this year, which is wonderful. But I say,
the cozy collection is complete with a throw blanket and
we've got one that has flowers on a cowboy boots,
really plush on the outside, but on the inside fleece
(26:49):
and warm. And you know, when you're looking at things
based on how it makes you feel, those are the
gifts that you want to get.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Oh my god, I love that. I'm gritting ear to
you're just thinking about that. That is tell us more,
you know, And Chris, I'm going to switch back to you, Chris,
tell us more on what you're seeing is going to
like inspire a little bit more about the next gin.
And we got to touch on the furry friends a
little bit as well too. What are you seeing out
there that people are really reaching for?
Speaker 8 (27:13):
Absolutely well, we want to encourage and support our next trends,
trends so they can start and embrace life out here.
So we have actually one thing you were talking going
back five years ago. We actually have a ride on
mower that's a zero turn radius mower and it is
absolutely fun out there. So as why they're sitting on
there for hours of fun driving their little mo around
(27:35):
you know what they think of and mimicking what mom
and dad are doing during you know, spring, summer, fall
and riding and taking care of their lawn. So it's
actually planting the seed in their head for future independence
of life out here.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Thank what I love about all of these gifts you're
talking about every year when we have you guys on,
they're practical, they're loved, they have more than just some
like you know, frivolous purpose. They're so intuitive as to
what people need and want and enjoy. People are gonna
love it again this year. I'm just loving everything you
guys are saying. Go ahead, awesome.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
Well we're talking about companions now, right, So our companions
you can't forget about them. We have aisles full of treats, toys.
I mean, you could just come in there forever, so
you know, Field and Stream actually added to this. One
of my personal favorites and I'm seeing a lock o
is the dog duck toy. So you take this, you
throw it out there. It's durable, it could bring it back,
(28:26):
you know what, and it hires out that pets, so
you know what, you bring them back a little bit,
and then you can give them another toy that they
could sit there and now on, like the antler chew toy,
which is great. But you know, tons of toys like
I mentioned. You can't forget about our barnyard friends though.
So if you have a horse, one of the items
that we have is the Jolly Peppermint ball. Let me
tell you about that. You just open the box and
(28:47):
you want to sniff it. So next time you're in there,
just say, hey, where's the peppermint ball? You know what
I mean, So go to it. I'm telling you this
is awesome. And then take care of the chicks out there,
make sure they're getting their flock party treats. So I'm
telling you we got gifts for everyone.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
My guys. You sure teck you and I knew the
time with Fly Guys, where do we send our listeners
coast to coast to find out more?
Speaker 7 (29:06):
Okay, come on in store or go to tractors Supply
dot Com, Backslash Gifts and don't forget we have daily
deals going on right now during the holidays and that
will help your wallet, your pocketbook and add value onto
your purchase.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Brilliant. I knew the time was Fly, Marty Scold Jordan,
Thank you so much, Chris, Sarah. You guys got an
open mic anytime. Please join us again, and very happy
holidays for you and yours.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Happy holidays, holidays, Thanks guys.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
We'll be right back, getting right after this, and we
(29:59):
are back and the holidays are upon us. And if
you're more organized than I am, that means that you're
out there already in the thick of it, getting everything
taken care of, getting that checklist taken care of. And
like any other part of the economy, there's a double
edged sword. We can do more online, more in person,
more with just the click of a button on our
phones to get this stuff done. But when it comes
(30:21):
to money, mistakes, when it comes to security, mistakes. The
odds are ever changing, and you want to stay up
to date on all of the various intro And if
you've ever made a purchase and gotten surprised by the
fees that come with it, you're not alone. I like
to think of myself as pretty savvy on this stuff,
and they've snuck up on me as well, and they
ramp up the cost. They drain your budgets, so they
(30:42):
kind of drain your confidence and your enthusiasm for doing
stuff online as well if you're not careful. And these
fees are hidden everywhere, guys, and it's getting worse, but
luckily joining us via our Newsmaker line, We've got a
couple of people here who have a unique perspective on
how to reduce those sorts of things, Reducing this dress,
reducing everything, and Keita joining us be our Newsmaker line
(31:03):
and don t overpay. Love this, love it to death.
Welcome to the show, guys. How are you guys doing
today again? Thank you?
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Oh thanks for having us.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Always good to have you, Mohammed. I want to start
with you if I could, many of us, make myself included.
We've all been there, silly money mistakes, all the time, okay,
and you were created, Dante overpay was created to help
people out of a sticky financial situation. Tell us a
little bit more about what you do.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
That's exactly like you said, right. I was made to
help my clients right in this world, to help them
out with their money situations, and so like, for instance,
I had a client recently who wanted to open up
a Hagson kilt store after finding out about his Scottish ancestry,
and then found himself in a blood feud with the neighbors,
as one does. So you know, all that's well and good,
(31:53):
that's not a problem. The problem is then he needed
to transfer money and he wanted to use stretion provider,
and was like, well, we don't want to do that, right, Like,
even when we find ourselves in really deep, we don't
want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. And
so I told them, like, we don't want to do
that because they're gonna have to be paying hidden fees.
It's going to come late. And so that's kind of
the purpose of the character, right, is that we we
(32:13):
want to make sure that even when we're in our
most precarious state, we don't keep making mistakes it's so true.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
And I'm taking notes as we're talking here. You bring
up really good important points. And Kita, when we're talking
about you know, we all hear the phrase hidden fees.
We all hear the phrases you know, you know, not
wasting your money, sending money abroad. Can have problems with this,
But the actual numbers are amazing. Almost thirty nine billion
dollars lost in hidden fees we're sending money abroad. Those numbers,
(32:42):
I think would surprise anybody. How can everyday Americans and
just about all of us know people abroad or we
shop with various entities abroad. How can we avoid this
costly mistake?
Speaker 9 (32:53):
Absolutely? And those fees are really staggering when you actually
look at the numbers. But let's really start by talking
about where those hidden fees are actually hiding. Some banks
and traditional providers actually mark up the exchange rate. Let's
take an example. So one US dollar is about eighteen
point seven Mexican pasos, but your bank might give you
(33:15):
a lower exchange rate. Let's say they give you sixteen pasos.
What that means is for every dollar that you send abroad,
the person on the other side is actually going to
be receiving fewer paysos. So that's where your fee is
really hiding, and that's that's not your fault. This is
a very common mistake that a lot of consumers make,
(33:35):
and it's how foreign transaction fees are hidden by design.
I've found myself in this situation multiple times, even recently.
I've been planning my wedding. I'm getting married at the
end of the month and the wedding is in India,
and so I've found myself in a situation where I
have to send money back and forth. If I was
using a traditional provider, there's a high chance I could
(33:57):
be losing hundreds of dollars and that's not what you
want when you've already got something expensive that you're planning.
So the key is really having awareness and knowing that
there are transparent and affordable options out there for whatever
it is that you have to do.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Outstanding, this is great information and congratulations on the upcoming nuptials.
I've been married to my best trend for just over
thirty years now. We've been better anniversary and there's nothing better.
No one will make you more crazy and no one
will make you more happy. If you're a great combo
right it for you know, as long as he gets
all good and Keith, I'm gonna stick with you one
more second here. What should consumers be looking for specifically
(34:38):
when it comes to these transfers. Is there any kind
of a hot button or any kind of a code
word we should be looking for, like aha and Keta
told us to avoid that, so I would say.
Speaker 9 (34:48):
The short answer is transparency. Sending money abroad, especially if
you're doing it for the first time, can be complex
and daunting, but it really doesn't have to be. Part
of our focus here today at that Don and I
are working on is to help consumers really understand that
there are transparent options out there. Why Is is an
(35:08):
international money app that allows consumers to send, spend, hold,
and receive money in over forty currencies in just one app,
and they use the mid market exchange rate like the
one that you can actually find on Google. My key
piece of advice if you have a need to send
money abroad or you're buying something for the holidays is
(35:29):
make sure you know exactly how much you're paying and
why you're paying that amount, and also be certain that
you have confidence and trust in the amount that the
other person is going to get on the other side
beautiful stuff.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
I love this, Mohammed. I'm going to go back to you,
and I love the don't key overpay. That is absolutely genius.
That's going to catch on and just go like wildfire.
It already has. But talk to me a bit about
what inspired the creation of it. What made you excited
to help bring this character to life, because is exactly
what people need. I just love it.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Yeah, I mean, I'm here today as Dante E Rafe,
but you know the person behind the character, my name
is Momo. I'm a content creator and you know when
I make videos, I want to make videos that resonate
with my audience and they can relate to whether it's
comedic or dramatic or whatever it is. Right, I think
the purpose is to make people feel less alone. And
I think, especially when it comes to when it came
to the creation of this character and the collaboration with Whise,
(36:22):
we wanted the character to kind of reflect that, right.
We wanted to be a character that's helpful, that's there
to listen to you and make you feel less alone.
And even creating these scenarios these you know, as crazy
and silly as they are. The goal is really for
that everyone. I mean, the goal is like for everyone
(36:42):
to be able to relate to them even in the
most precarious and strange situation, there's still something fundamentally relatable,
you know. And yeah, so that's why we created this
character related stuff.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
It's so smart. People are going to be like, why
wasn't this done how many years ago? And you took
care of it. You really filled a nid share. It's fantastic.
I knew the time was fly. Where to our listeners
coast to coast go to find more information out on
this So.
Speaker 9 (37:06):
If you want to learn more, you can head over
to wyse dot com, slash donte overpay, or you can

Speaker 3 (37:39):
To
