Speaker 1 (00:00):
I know much. Welcome back to the Muster. The music
today is Foreigner. I want to know what love is
featured on the Rock of Ages soundtrack, which came out
the movie that came out in the mid twenty tens.
As we catch up next with Alex Clark of KWS, Alex,

(00:23):
Welcome to the Muster.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hi any thanks for heaving me know.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Firstly, Alex, to the uninitiated, explain what KWS is about.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Hey, look, so KWS is a European based company, been
in New Zealand for about three years now and together
with Bayer May we've brought the Conviso Smart System to
New Zealand to sort of redefine how we control weeds
in New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Now you look at weeds and crops, it's an issue
for a lot of people. You think back to the
days of ridging. We're looking at a different area now
and everything is just in a different ball game situation, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
One hundred and to sort of add to that, you know,
like years years of cropping mate have sort of made
it just even harder to be growing our crops in
New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
We look at the Conveso Smart system, Alex and I
suppose the key question is what's so good about it?
What makes it work like it does. So the real.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Beauty of the Conveso system is how early we can
attack these weeds. Andy. Conventional chemistry sort of you know,
when we look at the size of the beat, generally
you're having to wait till it's developed a good four
to six leaves before we can come in and really
attack these weeds. With the Conveso smart system, Andy, you know,
you could be coming in a cod of lead and

(01:45):
to really clean up these weeds, which is going to
allow our crops to get to canopy a lot faster.
And the beauty of it is made is that you
come in at nice and early and we're giving the
crop the whole season to grow, and we're not contly
you attacking it with chemistry.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
As far as yields and crops. What are we seeing
there if you've got the chemistry right.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
So it sort of depends, you know, like if you're
up in a tager on net and you're sitting underneath pivots, Look,
it could be how long a piece of string, but
you know we're seeing guys getting around that thirty two
to thirty four ton mark moving a bit further down
to Southland, traditional growing systems without the pivots, and look,
twenty eight tons would be quite easily achieved. Andy, you look.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
At winter systems and how they deviate them. We've talked
about it just briefly. Alex's touched on it regarding swedes
and the likes, But this day and age, it's a
totally different ballgame. Eye you can just you know, everyone's
trying to get the yields up there, but it's about
maximizing bang for.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Back, Yeah, one hundred percent. And I think that I can, sorry,
I see can be so changing the game in terms
of their sense per kga dry meta. If you're having
to grow a conventional beat crop and you're using three
plus sprays versus the two sprays of airs, yeah, it's

(03:04):
a bit of a no brainer and.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It so it just makes life a hell of a
lot simpler when you're trying to get the canopy established,
like you elute.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
One mate, and then you know, growlers can focus on
the other things that are important.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Now when you look at the season on a whole
down here in the south has been cool and crisp
recently up there in central Otago. How are they faring?
Is it no different to any other season? Would you say?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Oh, no, pretty standing? May look I've had a bit
of snow and that recently up in central but I'd
like I think everyone's pretty happy. I had the pleasure
of coming up to where last week and you know,
still seeing cows standing on top of the soil mate,
So you know these are good things to see for
their farmers.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Absolutely, Now, Alex, if people want to learn more about
Conviso or KWS as such, where do they go? How
do they learn more? Hey?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Look, I'd be talking to your local gronomus for a
and foremost and you can ask them about the system
and everything else. And if not, you can jump onto
KWS dot com and get hold of either myself locally
down in South on Otago or Simon up in Canterbury.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Hey, good on to Alex exyr time this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Hey, thanks d.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Alex Clark FKWS talking about the Conviso Smart System. Morgan
Mitchell was up next for Eastern Northern Barbarians to talk
about an epic game of rugby that occurred over the weekend.
