Yeah, I know, but it's fantastic ut be here, Andy, Yeah,
beautiful sunrise this morning. It's good to get out and yeah,
move those stock and nice sort of a warm morning.

You can hear the plovers in the background as we speak.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, yep, we just out. But he moving some sheep
out here on some stubble paducks and yeah, got the
old Perry still hanging around in the background.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
If you still have many ducks floating about in general,
there's a way few, but definitely not the numbers we
normally get each year.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Like it's been well down. The kids a keen on
going and shooting ducks, and it's pretty hard to find
them at times.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
How have things been over the past months anyway, Andrew?
Just business as usual. Winter has been as you predict.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Probably once has been a lot kinder than what we're predicting.
Like goods, we've still been getting grass growth pretty much
all the way through, which has been fantastic and other
than the sort of a couple of week hiccups with
some bit of rain and some wet we storms that
have come through, I think we've actually braved it pretty
well so far. But we do want to get winter
out of the way in winter time, so seen us
(01:18):
whatever rubbish is coming through. See there's a wee bit
coming through late later today, so we'll get it over
and done with.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
It seems to be the case. But you wouldn't say
it's any cooler than normal for this time of yet.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
No, I don't think so. No. We always get those
sort of roll of frosts and that, and but we
had we touch with puddles were iced up this morning.
The frost had actually gone off the just to we
breeze this morning to get rid of it, so that's
quite good. I think it was what minus two when
I got home last night, so obviously the frost had
gone off again.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
The difference of minus three to being zero, I mean
it was minus three yesterday morning and it was freezing
the b verbial, but today just being zero, I mean,
it was quite pleasant going for a walk and not
having that little bit of extra chill about you. Sounds
a bit silly, but a couple of degrees makes all
the difference, right.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Oh it does yep, And you can see it in
the stock to endy like they don't like giving the
cold wet mornings and that either. So no, they're all
looking pretty good. It's good chance for everyone's doing scannings
and that sort of thing at the moment, so a
good chance to go through us and just have a
look at them. And the more decisions you can make
now early the better. So anything that's not hacking it,
there's usually always a tail and a mob somewhere that

just get them out and put them in with your
triplets or with a separate mob and just start to
do them a bit better if you need to.

How often do you put the US through the yard
to take off the tail lenders and satch, I know
some people that do it every time you're running past
the yards.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, we'll try not to do it too often, or
probably should do it more often than what we do.
But so every couple of months you sort of just
have a look at the mob and just see or
even if you've given them a long walk along a lane,
or something. It's just as easy just to cut off
the back five or ten us if they're just not
doing so well and run them around with your b
line of us or a mob that can pick up utilization.

It's been okay, oh fantastic.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, I know we're looking real short with the kales
earlier on with having the grazed lambs on them over
the summer, but utilizations fantastic and the growth that we've
received out of the kale. But we did hit it
with one hundred and fifty kilos of nitrogen and when
we finished grazing it sort of late March, and gee,
it's responded really well. Crops have come back and looking
(03:24):
fantastic now.

G don't tell Chloe Sward bricks.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah, no, it's just another string to the bow with kale.
I think it's a real there's been a real game
changer for us for how we manage our farm with
lamb fattening and just yeah, grazing it in the in
the winter time. It just gives you so many more options.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Just one of the tools you've got to have in
that box down the other side, the wires trainer in
the cutters, I suppose.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, that's pretty much at Andy, So it's good and
you never know what each season's going to throw it.
You just got to roll the punctures. But it just
gives you that bit of extra diversity that you can, yeah,
pull those levers and you know that you've got a
bit of something's going to happen in the background that
you're going to need.

So you're content with scanning numbers.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
We've only done their early suft texas so far, and yeah,
over those they were up about three percent on normal,
so happy with that. Surprisingly, there was actually less triplets
and more twins, which is fantastic. That we're scanning the
rest of the years mid this week, so Wednesday Thursday
(04:27):
are going to be big days for us, bringing everything
through the yards and scanning them up and see how
they go.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Sorry, Snow, I was going to ask you, why do
you think that is?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I don't know, Andy, If we could master that would
be we'd be able to retire from farming.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I think it's like reading the forecast and actually dictating
the weather a week out.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, it is, yep, because well the other thing, the
dry numbers would probably half a percent higher than normal,
but the overall scanning was up there three percent, so yeah,
I just can't quite put my finger on the pulse there.
But triplets weren't up was just extra twins on them.

Hell was scanning. Looking from the people you've speaking to anyway.

From what I've spoken to, all seem to be about
the same sort of scanning up slightly. But also their
dry numbers are just up slightly as well. So yeah,
quite funny how that works and swings and roundabouts, but
we'll take it because yeah, triplet so yeah, they can
be a blessing and a curse. It's good to have
the extra lambs they're available, but yeah, you've got to

get live lambs through through the sales the key.

So you're heading through the rest of winter, I to
imagine with a lot of positivity.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Absolutely, yep. And it's good like lamb prices are looking
really good going forward, beefts looking really good. It is
good having a bit of positivity and a bit of
cash flow coming through the system. You actually feel like
you can do a few things on the farm that
you've been putting off the last couple of seasons.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And good money for dryes.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yes, yep, that's right. So yeah, that's the other thing
to sort of get them out and yeah, get those
gone and feed the ones that the there your productive
use of the left, get them cranking and get them now.
Now's the time to make decisions and on how good
they're going to rear their lambs and everything in milk,
and just keep those that condition on the use of
the beast you can. I know, it's easy to say
and hard to achieve.

Now go wonder as you're still putting on the boats.

Yeah, still strapping on the boat. So we're done. Playing
at Sarry Park against I hope you, well hope I
am on Saturday ended up with one old DRAWORDI on there.
Whi's a bit frustrating because we totally dominated and probably
should have had four or six goals in the first half.
But then yeah, just I don't blame my old leagues.
I suppose to get a bit tired in the second
half and just they come back into the game and

we've started a bit of ping pong with kicking the
ball forward and back rather than actually playing it round.

That's what football's about, though, isn't it just kicking the round?

Well, yeah, I know anyone watching a bit of the
world Cup. It's quite a skill with those players can
pass and and yeah, like they received the ball chest
tight and they can just drop it straight to their feet.
I don't know how they do that, but yeah, good
on them.

So who wins the tournament for you? We've got England,
Argentina and Spain against France, the first time four ranked
nations have made it through to the semi finals.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, yeah, it's fantastic to see. And there's been some
great games they've played in the last few days, close matches.
I've got England and the sweepstakes for me, so I'm
sort of pushing them on to try and go all
the way. But yeah, my gut feelings, see that's going
to be probably a France Argentina final.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
It'll be interesting with the English though, I mean, I
actually think they've got as much chance as anybody is
winning this tournament, and they haven't won the football fief
of World Cap since nineteen sixty six, and they're just
all reminiscing about when they won it. They want it
so badly, so so badly they sure do.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yep, that's right, They're Yeah, they're really pushing for it,
but that's how it goes at the end of the day,
it's yeah, and that's the national sport over there. We
think that rugby's big here, but when you see the
crowds and there in the stadium's there, it's just unreal.
What the crowds get behind them over there.
