Speaker 2 (00:11):
Becks Donderman joins us this afternoon and the Beef and
Lamb Slut talking about a workshop happening at the Croydon
Ledsharing Goring a couple of weeks called Strong Leadership, Great People,
all about empowering people in your workplace environment.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Good afternoon, begs and welcome.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Good a.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah? Pretty good? Now this workshop is pretty relevant for
a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
You look at leadership and different leadership qualities and a
lot of things to look at.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah, there is. It's certainly a complex beast, and I
think you know we can we can often over complicate it.
It's just about doing the things really well that we
do every day and taking our people along that process
with us. So you know, it's focusing what happens inside
the farm first before we worry about being leaders outside

(01:02):
the farm gates.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I mean, are leaders made or are they raised?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Look, leaders are certainly made. There's plenty of things we
can encourage and impart from our experience along the way.
You know, people need to be motivated and they need
to see a pathway that they can follow. So I think,
you know, there's plenty of opportunity for our farm owners
and managers to encourage younger people coming through.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
One of the things is about exploring work styles and
personality types. I mean, we've all heard about the Maya
Briggs test that people could do. There's various things around
are very similar to that. Is what can people expect
wore turning up? Yeah, sure, so you know.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Personality is are always It's a really interesting part of
any workshop, and we have a lot of fun looking
at different personalities. But what it comes down to is
firstly understanding our own person and that gives us some
important information about why we react the way we do
in certain situations. And then it's about understanding the personalities

(02:09):
of people and our teams and knowing how they're going
to react or might react in certain situations. It's about
it's about preparing us for having good conversations so that
when things may be change or don't go to plan
on farm, we're much better prepared for how our team
will react.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
A big thing for people as well was regarding introvert
versus extrovert scenario. Now with introverts as well. I've seen
it before. I've got mates who are very quiet, unissuming,
unassuming characters. You go along and do something, you ain't
hear boo out of them for the afternoon, but they'll
say what a good time they've had. I mean, that's
just how people operate. So it's horses for courses as well.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, yeah, Look, that comes down to really understanding our people, right,
So if we know that that's what they're like, then
it may, you know, we might have a conversation with
them at the end of the day to see how
they're getting on, rather than throughout the day, because we
know that they're not going to speak up in a group.
They're not you know, they're not going to be the
first one to put their hands up. And then on
the flip side, there will be those people that are

(03:14):
quite happy to chip chip on along the way. So
it's about really understanding who we've got working.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Around us, because leadership is something you need in a
team environment. Now, want of coming up very close to carving,
you're not too far away from landing, still a wee
way away, but nonetheless, look you've got to get the
dynamics right and it's all about getting everybody on the
same page. So I suppose a question is, what's one

(03:40):
thing off the top of your head begs for somebody
who's listening regarding those team dynamics, what's one thing you
should focus on?

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I think it's it's really good, Christ and Andy. You know,
it comes back to understanding your people. So what conversations
can you have with your team before you get to
that busy period. Is to know how they like to work,
what things they like around them, how they don't like
to work, so that when you're planning and you know,

(04:09):
putting it, putting together processes and systems for landing and carving,
you know each individual team member is going to suit
a slightly different way. And while it feels like, well
maybe everyone should just slot into the way I want
to do things, I think it's important to remember as
a leader, we have to operate in all those different
personalities to get the best out of our people.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
What happens if you's too many leaders?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Well, I guess, yeah, you know, too many leaders? Is
that a really?

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Is that a real thing?

Speaker 1 (04:39):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I think.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
You know, it's about everyone understanding their role and where
they fit in the team. So everyone can be a
leader of different aspects of a business. So if people
understand where they sit, sure let them go. Let them
lead that part of part of the farm, or part
of the system.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
So actually is that your work what you're doing in
the workplace.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's about identifying strengths and weaknesses and understanding how they work.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Absolutely, that's a key element of being a leader is
understanding your people, know what their strengths are, know where
they need to develop some skills and make it happen
for them. You know, that's our job as a leader.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
So anybody who attends this workshop, what are they going
to learn during the course of the afternoon or the day.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, so we will work around a little bit of
that personality stuff. We're going to look at stages of
team development, so how teams form and a cycle that
they go through as they develop and grow. They're going
to come home with some really cool practical teamplates around

(05:49):
how to have good conversations and how to plan well.
So you know, those are the key things how different
people will communicate. Teen stages and personalities. Now.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
The workshop's happening on the twenty first of July at
the Croydon Lodge, begs.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
People need to register it or turn up on the day.
What's preferred.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Absolutely, if people could register, that's really helpful for us
in terms of material and catering of course, which is
always important. But yes, if they can register through the
Beef and Land website on the events page, that'd be wonderful.
I know we've got quite a number registered already, so
it would be great to lock it in. I'm really
looking forward to getting down to Gore and meeting some

(06:36):
more people.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
So your register.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
We call it the cheese roll factor in Southam because
you don't want to be too many cheese rolls short.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
No, absolutely not. I wouldn't want to miss out.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Hey, begs, thanksy time on the must of this afternoon
and yeah, all the best.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
It sounds like a really interesting course, and I mean
if people would know about leadership, sounds like the perfect revenue.
