Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome back to the master. Cody Patterson Milks, a play
manager of Open Country, joins us on this glorious afternoon
in the Deep South. Cody, good afternoon and welcome.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hi Andy, cheers, good to see you, good to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, hells, thing's been over the Christmas period. Did you
manage a bit of a break?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Oh you're going to break in good up Central and
enjoyed a week of the sunshine up that way, So
that was It's just good sometimes just to get away
hopefully must be a farmers and and and workers on
farms got a break too, or we'll get one soon
and that's the second swing. We'll get away in late January.
It's just good for him, run the time, get a

(00:45):
week at a time off the farm. And my opinion, and.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Yeah, true words. And I like how you said you
had a wee bit of sunshine. I mean, this summer
has been anything but conventional.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
No, no, it's it might be still coming, but I've
got a week taste of it. But yeah, it'd be
nice to get some good weather. But that too, though,
I think given idelc out at the moment or appreciate
that rain. We've head over the weekend and there yesterday
and that so things are drawing out of it. But
that's when the week had I think rain and Jennery,

(01:20):
it doesn't matter where you are in the country, it's
really very much appreciated.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, so how have things been over the past couple
of months of open country anyway?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Look, Hey, we're just humming along. Milk production as well,
like either the twenty four to twenty five season, although
ever recalled that would not be a great season to
measure against. But even if we go back and look
at twenty three twenty four, we're well about that. So,
I mean, milk bollins are great farm. We're getting well.

(01:51):
Apart from now weather event we had in October that
the hick up, things are going really well. So and
I think that's rain again. Now we're gonna set us
up and just you hold on for a bit more
and just keep their production going and just drop off
the end of the year in the perfect world. So no,
I think think going very well now.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Cody, you mentioned briefly before regarding the October wind events.
We don't need to go back and talk about that,
say no more. But nonetheless, a lot of health and
safety messaging around the eradication of trees that have fallen
down too, because we're hearing of a lot of instances
of people just I wouldn't say being renegade on the chainsaw,
but just not doing their health and safety first.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, that's right. Any lots, hey, I just feel that
it was hard to see a lot more trees and
cleaned up now, and look at that time of year
where you know, we've got through, we're got through mating,
we're got through Christmas. So at the next job on,
let's probably getting the trees cleaned up in the senses.
But so I just say to all all farmers out there,

(02:55):
hay lots, be careful. The chainsaws are pretty awesome tools,
but they're pretty unforgiving if they get a hold of you. So,
I mean, it just goes back to that making sure
you've got your ppe. I went out and bought myself
and the peri chainsaw chaps in the weekend, which I

(03:16):
had to get approval from the wife. She's you know,
it's when it comes to the city health and safety,
it's just you just need it. So and then again
just obviouly doing it for those trees and they're done
and their own attention and say look, if you're not
sure what you're doing, get some help for you know,

(03:38):
just just be careful out of the year.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Now, farm sales in the South have been pretty buoyant recently.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah yeah, I thought last last year was a busy
year for farm steals. But there's a heck of a
lot of times coming to market and there's a lot
that are selling very quickly. So hey, it's great to see.
It's good for the economy, good for the farmers. As
we know the every day the Jerry farmers in New
Zealand is not getting the younger with succession and farm house.

(04:08):
If we can be selling farms and new people coming
into the industry, that's great. So and I just say, look,
if there's anyone out there that's looking to buy a
farm or water a farm and I think about going
out in country, I just want to know that what
we've got to offer and understand how we work and
reach out to cal Melissa and myself and we're more

(04:29):
than happy just come out heavy Am and just explain
how how open country works. Obviously with an open country
Amterra La down here as well as we're Afra from
the north Folland, but hey, just just give us a
call and just come and see if we're a fit
for your business, if we can work together.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
The Tour of Southland, we're finally saying the twenty twenty
five edition in early twenty twenty cents is underway next week.
You guys are sponsoring a team.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
This is pretty cool, ye know, this is this is
a new one for me, but I'm not new for
Open Country and the deeps Now. We're sponsoring the Open
Country Transport Engineering Team. So we've been involved in this
team for five years or so now, so not always
under Open Country. I think it's been the under VCF

(05:21):
ice Cream and Kelly, but obviously Decup ice Cream is
part of Open Country now, so look, it's pretty exciting.
I think they obviously to change the day. The Open
Country Transport Engineering Team have had a had a ringing
which they're quite excited about. But I think they've got
a strong team and they're they're excited it is that

(05:44):
there are real chance of winning out that they've got
some some good names and then they've got Nick kare Kazoo,
Mitchell Fitzsimmons, Amish Keiith, Will Cooper, Lucas, Murphy and Logan
carry the big Ring and he's just come back from overseas,
so they're pretty excited to have all those guys in
the team. And we'll be down there on Sunday to

(06:08):
control and I'll be some good quality cheese rolls and
giving them away. So if you're around them about the
ychev record bounds or spectator or just come on down
and what say. The team getting prepared, but yeah, it'll
be pinning a cheese roles.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Just finally, Southern Field Days at way Momy. The team's
out there doing the mark out today. This is going
to be a big event.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, yeah, it seems like forever since our last few
days in't it eyes? So but hey, we've set up
there again this year as well, and previous years we've
been in the Big Shed, which has been great. But
we've got our own site this time, site five two seven,
and we're going to be mixing it up a bit
and I can tell you now we too much away.

(06:53):
It will be well worth a visit. And hey, look
i'd ache here a few supply Open Country or anyone
else you can be able to see and say today
and I'm sure you'll leave it a smile on your safe.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Come down and get some of that fantastic cheese that
you guys are renowned for. Cody Petterson always good to
catch up with the team from Open Country. We'll see
you at field days.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Gee, then take it eat of that.
