The music today the theme is The Sopranos, the TV
series that finished nearly twenty years ago. That song there,

faced an uncertain future, and that is when the TV
went blank for ten seconds before the credits rolled, because
nobody actually knew what happened next, so it was open
to interpretation. Nonetheless, that's probably lost on our next guest.

He is kind of mother from bealf young farmers, kind
of good afternoon before due respect. You're probably selling your
nappies and that show was finishing.

Yeah, I believe I probably would have been, even though
in one of the older people of the young farmer's
community down here in a Tiger South, and we'll know
a little bit about Sopranos, but not not a hell
of a lot.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Bellfy young farmers, young farmers in juneral down here in
the South. It's a massive weekend happening in conjunction with
the AMP show.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
It is the regional final.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Up Regional final for season fifty eight or we've got
amazing top eight competitors this year all around from the
Tiger southern region, which is great instead of just heavily South.
We've got a couple of competitors from the Otago each
stepping up to test us Southerners on our skills and
knowledge of the farming sector. It's going to be a
really great day at the amp show Browns and gore to.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Tell people who haven't been along to one of these
competitions what they can expect.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
So the main thing on the Saturday is the eight contestants.
They're up, bright and early, they're at the showgrounds there
and they've got to compete in practical Day, which is
the main kind of viewing point for people to come
and have a look at. These day competitors are going
to be competing in a farmland which is comprised of

fencing mainly with other modules that are done by sponsored
businesses that are joint with young farmers nationally, and they're
going to be going head to head and scored accordingly.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Now, a lot of people competing this coming weekend they
were involved last year, so they're having another bite at
the cheery so to speak.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, I think it's a great showering for Tiger South
and we've got a few guys back for their second
and third third attempts. That's pretty exciting. We've got no
one has been in a Grand Final before, so we're
going to get a brand new competitor this year to
go up to Palmston North to New Plumber Story and
compete against the rest of the regions. So it's quite exciting.
(02:37):
We've got two female computers as well, so the female
category for best finishing Female is not just going to
get handed out to someone this year. There's going to
be a bit of a competition there as well between
s and so that's going to be exciting as well.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
So would you say there's a favorite based on some
of these competitors having been there too, even three times.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
After there is a favorite. We were talking about this
in the regional meetings the other week and we can't really,
we can't really pick one. They've all had enough experience
and they all have favored areas in the in practical
day and non exam day and at the buzzer session,
at the night at the events event show. So I
think it's just going to be whoever is going to

perform the best on the day is going to going
to take away the spoils and.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
The night session as well. That's where we find out
that one of the quiz comes to the fore the
general knowledge not just about farming.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
We're just being all around in the na suppose. So
it's just not based on the on the practical stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah exactly. I think the cause the causes, but entertainment
for the crowd if you haven't been exposed to that before.
They go head to head in about four rounds of questioning.
They have their own questions and then there's speed rounds
and questions where they can fight over over the answer.
It's very entertaining and the question like you say, are

very hardly not just farming base. They cover all all
sorts of agriculture, aguaculture, forestry, everything in this lovery country
as well as a little bit of general knowledge. I
think one of the years I entered, they had bird
of the year, So you've got to really think, you've
got to really cover all bases. So what was the

bird of the year that year of the Patiki Techi?
I think the one the answer was it was going
pretty flat out on social media thanks to that lovely
man over in America.

And another great part of the day as the Agrikids
being involved too.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, every kids and junior young farmer. So these are great.
These are the primary school and high school kids that
are competing in teams of three and two and they
the agri kids through their competition and team of three
and the juniors through their team of two and they
pretty much do a mini mini version of what the
what the top eight are doing. So that's quite excited

as well. Set up in Ontargio, do me very strong
on this. This the area very passionate about egary kids
down here. We always have very good showings up at
Grand Final. So come along and see what the future
top eight competitors could potentially be.

On a on the local front bow for young farmers.
You had your meeting last night.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
How was it very good? We had a great turnout
of people. I think it's probably the most people we've
had in a meeting there for a quarter a while
at the Bowls Club. Really good meeting. And then we
did a bit of practice there for our own Maxmicullum
on the on the buzzer section general knowledge, caught up
a few few competitors against them and got them gone
(05:40):
thinking and preparing it. Helping him prepare. So we'll be
back in our man Max all the way.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
I actually thought for a moment there, mate, you were
going to get on the bowling green.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
No, that was very wet yesterday. Obviously, I don't think
anyone wild be complaining about the rain, but it's probably
not a good time to be getting on the balls
and rapping out all up. We don't want to annoy
the locals.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I suppose up there in the land of milk and honey.
Just be honest. You're after some of the big yellow
to shine down, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
But I hate would be lovely.

I think everyone around the area is pretty happy with
the amount of rain we've probably had. The grain was
might necessarily not be stopping them heading, but I think
every dry stock and Jerry farm we'll be pretty happy
with the rain. So we get some big yellow in
the sky that will grow the grass away and we
can get back to get back to producing some great products.

Okay, then, Connor, what what are the details people need
to know around start times on Saturday?
Speaker 3 (06:36):
The practical day is going to be kucking off at
about eight eight thirty at the showgrounds. They're on the album.
Albion Women's Sports Field that goes all morning is the
first head to Heat I think is about eleven and
then eger Sports is about one thirty and that's the
big exciting all eight. They have to compete in multiple

farming activity related things with tractors and building things and
first one finnerus gets much points, so that's quite exciting
for the crowd. And then at the evening though we
started about four point thirty at the town country Club,
there is allstar tucket available. Please come along, you don't
want to miss out. This is pretty exciting stuff for
our area and are for our region.
