here and gore. This morning as I come over to work,
the sun was out and about down here in the
Deep South, and it was glistening off that high rise
which is Sergeant dan Stock Foods. Forget the Golden Arches,
we had the Golden building and in so it wasn't
Willie Wonker bringing the treats, but it was indeed Daryl

You're another great intro and you have plenty good been.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
A busy couple of weeks of you guys. I suppose
it's all about a couple of things maintenance at the moment.
We talked about that last time. But luckily all the
spinners that we put away shortly in a production.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You know, we're starting to crank it up now. Obviously
we're not far away from lemming and carving, so we're
into making. You know, carf fee and lamb feed will
be down the track as well, so that's a focus
at the moment. And also pre carving. We do a
lot of pre carving pellets for kews before the calf
to keep there, get their room and functioning correctly. That's
(01:26):
the plane at the moment, So fled out doing calf mainly.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
How many calf pellets would you produce a week in
peak production.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Or we try and do a minimum of two hundred ton.
We normally beg with a new machinery with Karen and
so on, we can normally beg around sixty seventy ton
just cruising, but obviously we make other product and we've
only got so much storage, so we try and do
two hundred ton a week from here on, and then
when we get to the busy season, we're probably doing

two fifty three hundred ton of week of calf pellets here.

So in orders come and how long in advance do
you need warning more or less?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well, we've normally got to stop file. We have to
start early because the peak dispatch is actually more than
we can produce in a day, but it varies every year.
We try and have the product on hand to dispatch
the day the wader comes in as the plan. It's
not always the plan, depending on what happens. Sometimes the

peak sort of catches up on you and some of
our computer doors may run out of feed. So it's
an interesting season. If you get to labor weekend, which
is the peak for car feed and dairy feed that
we produce, so that's a pretty busy time for us.
We're normally doing seven days a week and quite long
ask to keep the production up with the dispatch.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah, so amazing. It says it as more or less
when you guys have you a bit of a slower period,
so you're just ramping up now.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, June July is there too quiet a month quite
long way and most people think, you know that we've
laid out in the winter, but we sell a bit
of feed in the winter, but really it's still the
two quietest months we have for the year. So that's
you know, we're doing the maintenance and the cold period.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
So Karen, she's had a couple of bearings faxed and
the lights wearing to go.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh yeah, she's she's humming at the moment. The boys
have got to flat out, so you know she's big
and feed flat out, so there's no problems there. She's
going really well, very reliable unit.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Now the people who aren't to wear around your products.
We talk about car feed the pre carving pellettes. Part
of a metabolism as well is keeping the feed up
to them. What's the special thing about the pre carving pellets.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Pre carving, they have a lot of reasons. You need
to get minerals and vitamins and minerals into the cow
before she carves and mobilize her calcium. It's a bit
of a there's two theories around pre carving pets. Some
use high calcium and some use no calcium. So it's
a bit of a science and I don't know, we
won't have time to go into that today, but yeah,

we make pre carving and also the grain. Most cows
go onto a grain based feed once they've carved, so
it's good to have some grain going into their room
and prior to carving just gets all the ruben white
crobes and that focusing on digesting grain and therefore they're
up and running a bit quicker and milking flat out,
which is the goal once they've carved.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
And Caffee goes about saying and let you reap what
you say.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Absolutely, your caffeed is really crucial. I mean, we make
a really high quality carfeed and anyone who wants to
have good milking cows and the who it needs to
feed those calves correctly, especially the first twelve weeks to
vite all the data down shows that can increase their
production run out to five years. You grow a really
good calf and you get a good cow. It's not rocket.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Times, Natalie Crystal the anam when nutrition us there at
Serge and who's based out north. But you're in constant dialogue,
always just tweaking products.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Absolutely, we're always tweaking the formulations depending on raw material
pricing and availability. This year there's some I think your
orange trend overseas there's made some raw materials quite tough
to get ahold of, just with the strait being closed
and so on. So we have a few challenges, but
we're overcoming that. And she can formulate around what rear

ural maturials are available, so she's doing that all the
time pretty much.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Andy supply chains. Then what happens there is there a
flow on effect for you guys.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
A lot of the obviously all the grain comes out
of New Zealand or comes out of South so there's
no issues there. But some of the minerals and that
we buy in advance, some comes out of China, but
a lot of it comes out of Europe, so they're
very expensive now with shipping, but that's sort of always
peaks and troughs, and that's you just got to be
careful when you purchase large volumes of minerals. But we're
(05:36):
pretty well sorted. Most of it's all on hand in
their shed now, so we've just got to get on
with manufacturing it now.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Checking feed is cargo feed, pig feed, you name it.
You guys have got it. That's going out the door
all the time pretty much.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
See this cargo feeds quite slow following us. That's quite hard,
good pun. Yeah, that's pretty random. But no, everything else
is going out the door pretty this time year.

Right, Let's talk about of code because we came with

and I used to play for a Pirates team a
long time ago. But obviously, being a Barbars sponsor, we

I was really pleased to see them winning in one
hundred minutes of rugby. It was pretty hicnck and a bit.
There's some pretty tired and saw boys at the end

just to rewatch the game with a couple of quiets.
But from your perspective, did you ever win the Shield
the Girl Braiths?

Hell no no. Most of the time I played were
in the second division, and when we're in the top division,
we weren't at the top. We had a couple of
victories over teams like Blues that used to win it
year on you when I was a young fellow, But no,
we weren't good enough to win the shield that my
club had one of the number of years when I
was in the lower grades, but not when I was

in the senior grade.

So no Blues had a real mortgage on the shield
once upon a time, not that long ago.

Yeah, that was really unfortunately we weren't going to that.
