Speaker 1 (00:19):
Welcome back. This says the muster on Hakanui. David sure
joins us. Next here is part of the Edendale Villas
Machinery Club. Of course, it's all go of crank Cap
happening down at eden Dale, which is an event being
synonymous south Under the end of January. David good to
catch up.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Hey, how are you?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
How's it all going from your guy's perspective.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Anyway, Well, things are slightly floating to trickle in through
the gate. Normally Friday's a big set up day. We'll
be having a slightly different lay up this year. Frontier
has got quite a bit of construction going on, sort
of a tack up some of their tractor paddic so
visitors will notice a little bit of a different change
in the layup. But we'll still have all the same
(01:00):
entertainments and plenty of all visitors to see and do.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Let's go back to the nuts and bolts at the
event day. But what is the appeal of it?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Well, you pay your twenty buckskin of the gate and
you can stay all day and there's all sorts of
things to see and do, you can ride all sorts
of things. You write everything from Attraction Engine to a poney.
You can buy all sorts of things from a therapeutic
message to a three D printed dinosaur in the infant
of the crafts. Yeah, there's just such a big variety
(01:29):
of people things, the sea, doing experience and for twenty bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
What can you buy for twenty bucks these days? That
gets you all that.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
It seems to be an event that just keeps getting
more popular over time.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Wow, we like to think.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
So we have people who come every year and I mean,
this is there thirty eighth Now we've been doing it
pretty much for thirty eight years, although it was a
bit humble and are first at beginnings. But yeah, we've
stuck with the two day format since about two thousand
and two and it just seems to be getting just
as popular as it ever has been.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
What's gonna be there? What's There's always a theme with
the event is what have we got for this year?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
This this theme is Ferguson, Massy Ferguson, and it's sixty
years of Toya and New Zealand, So Daves will have
one of the first corollas that was the same world
in New Zealand and I think part of war year
listers will have seen driven encountered either a Fergi or
a Toyota. I'm sure they would have. I'll be very
surprised if any of any of you listen to haven't.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
So we'll have everything from early land cruises.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
We've got little gray Fergie's, we've got larger Redden gray fergis.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
So that that's a big thing for this year.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
So when there is a theme, what does it mean
for the event? What happens as such?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Well, we have extra parades, there'd be we should displays
on Like I said, is gonna have is going to
be there with with their early Corolla. They'll be gout
a little special parades and displays. So if you especially
if you have any sort of interest in fergus or tights,
definitely this is the place to be.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
So you're going to have like the old bulldogs and
there maybe perhaps likes of bring gun carriers.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, well the bulldogs will always be there. They're always
a great interest for for prefer visitors. We'll have them
pretty Actually, our first event at ten am will be
a bulldog starting, so if you're interested in that, that
that's the time to be.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
The military guys will be along, what sort.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Of display they'll have I'm not sure, but they'll be
probably turning it, but will work out what they'll be doing.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
And it's an event that captures the imagination and more
ways the one. Yes, you've got all the vehicles, the
heavy vehicles and likes, but if the arts and crafts
is also a big part of.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It, it certainly is.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I mean we've had people coming every year for the.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
For Crank Up.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
It's a big event for a lot of people and
that sort of commdion, and there's a very clear of
people out there who bring along their weares and it's
it's one of the wee the biggest events as well.
So it's definitely not just if you're into tractors. If
if you're into crafts or anything like that, there's definitely something.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
For you to look at too.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Grand Parade when does that happen?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Well, on the side, the Grand Parade is at three
point thirty and it's at the same time on the
Sunday as well.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
I mean, this is old school. You've got the tug
of War, you've got the lowly scrambles, you've got all
the old stuff that you're not really allowed to do
these days.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
We're gonna do it anyway.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Good on you, that's what we want to hear. Now,
what's the story with prices? So twenty bucks to get
in if pass cash? What do you want people to bring?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Will have air poss at the gate, please, you definitely
bring cash because there's a plenty of things that's been
it on. But yeah, we will have air pos at
the gate. Please leave your dogs at home because a
lot of air paddocks will be on Fontira Land and
due to hygiene regulations, so please leave dogs tied up
and you just bring yourselves. We'll have good, good weather.
(04:58):
We always have good weather. Cranker, even it's raining, it's
still Even if it's even it's raining, it's still good weather.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
South of this will just bring a jacket.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
That's exactly.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Well, that's the last few years.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
The rain has very kindly sort of stayed off until
after the Grand Parade on Sunday, so the last two
years running. So we'll probably have that tradition happening again.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Chainsaw sculpting, Yes, interesting.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Very interesting.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
What's to go there?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Well, the very skilled man comes along and carves bits
of wod with a chainsaw and all sorts of things,
all sorts of different shapes and sizes. We'll have quite
a lot of wood chopping this year as well. There's
be at least these twenty wood choppers and they'll be
running all through the day. I know that's always very
popular to stay and watch, and there'll be the wood
choppers will be doing their thing pretty much all weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Now, if you're interested in classic truck runs, what's this about?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Well, Ken Bell part of one of our members. He's
sort of set that up and it's sort of a
little subdivision of our club. They're in the trucks and
they organize run runs and all around the countryside. So
definitely Ken's numbers in there in the program. So given
McAll if you won't want to set that up. I
know there was a few guys particularly interested in the
(06:14):
elder trucks and running them around.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
So the street parade is happening this evening at seven o'clock,
seven o'clock Yep and Edendale and then ten o'clock tomorrow,
it's all go.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
At ten o'clock tomorrow, it's all go.
Speaker 3 (06:25):

It's a barbecue bill production and I can definitely testify
by my profile here. That barbecue bill is always splendid.
We'll also be having Laura Coot will be speaking as well.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yes, and.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
As you're talking about all her are various complements. Even
thinking about it makes me tired, so but I'm sure
she'll have plenty of plenty of interest to say.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
She may be even cracking the whip too.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
It's all going tomorrow and kids under sixteen free as.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Well, right you go, definitely, and it's part of the
last big event before school gets back, so we do
have a lot of kids coming along and that's really
great to see.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
The ansters to get into playing with old tractors, especially
because they're the next generation.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Absolutely, because the sixteen meals spanner and a bit of CRC,
you can fix a lot.

Well, you'd learn quite a lot.

enjoy the weekend.
