Speaker 1 (00:06):
Thanks to Abby Rural. It is time to catch up
with Grant McMaster, Closper and station. We're talking everything about
dog trials, tribulations and living in the high country. If
that makes sense, grunt okay.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
And in good afternoon everybody probably not probably not a
lot makes sense on the show to be fair on
the segment, so making sense might be a start.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well, we can go one way, I suppose how's everything
at closer.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, it's still good that you know, the summer continues
to give and even though we're in the autumn now,
it's a little bit cooler in the mornings, obviously dark
in the mornings, but the days have been great and
in fact, last week it's been probably it's been the
warmest at night as it's been all summer. So yeah,
really good, good days. That's a little bit cooler in

(00:51):
the morning, but the grass is still growing and green,
you know the greenip. Well it's not quite as green,
but there's funny, a good tucker about, you know, a
good a good spot to be in Andy. And I
went there to go down to the cargo yesterday and heading
around through Garston about or nine o'clock in the morning,
there was quite a good frost on the side of
the road there just before Garston. So it's been Yeah,

(01:14):
it's got that. The leaves are starting to turn on
the willows here a bit. So, yeah, the autumn is
upon us.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
We're just heading into that cycle that's come around rather
too quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
It is. But I mean, autumn is always generally quite
a good season for I'd say, you know, I know
in south and especially east and south and and there,
you know, in the Winding Valley, autumn was always a good,
great time for a lot of growth and good days.
And it's sort of similar up here. You've you've got
a bit of rain and the autumn's good. It's sort
of the heat is definitely in the you know, the
heat's definitely there. So little bits of rain we're getting

(01:48):
are just keeping things ticking along, which is which is great.
And you know, we're in a far different situation than
we were this time last year, when you know, you
could see a mouse carrying his lunch across the hill.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
How big? How big is lunch that the mouse carries?

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh, I was slightly bigger than the mouse because they
get hungry.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
You see, that's a big bit of cheez, have you
stayed to you last week. You had the drone arriving
that afternoon about to put some first on. How to
that go?

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Oh? That was you know, that was like I was
as excited as I was going up to the farm
discussion group and finding all about the halters. So yeah,
this we we decided to put some ferret on a
on a kale ground and it's it's only about six
seven hectares and it's just it's just a bit of
undulating hell that that you know, the bulky would have,

(02:37):
you know, would scuffed it up a bit. So neighbor
had a drone going to do something right, I will,
let's do that and you know, share share the costs.
So he came along and we had the we had
the ton of ferts sitting there, a couple of coal buckets.
The drone comes in and we're putting about seventy k
gs into it and away just lifted up and did

(03:01):
the GPS at all, And it's quite fascinating. This drone
was worth about eighty thousand dollars and the guy that
owns it's got it set up to be on solar battery.
So every time that you know, the drone might only
be away for a couple of minutes, but then it
would come back and he would have to reach he
would have to take the battery out and take another

(03:21):
one off the charge that was being charged with the
solar panels that he had so very efficient and use
a friendly. He did have a generator. It was a
bit of a backup because he hadn't quite perfected the
getting enough solar energy at times and had had a
little tank there that when I was the hose boy,

(03:41):
water boy just came in. He gave the ground a
bit of a bit of a squirt so it didn't
blow the dust up. Drone drops down and set it
up and away it goes, so four roads on it
and when it's sitting above you, well you're just out
of its way obviously, but you know, it's quite a
big it's quite a big bit of machine equipment and
I think I think it's worth about eighty thousand dollars

(04:04):
just the drone. So anyway, did a great job, I thought,
and didn't seem to take that long, and you know
GPS at all, and the way it goes there was
a there was some power lines went through one of
the paddocks, so he was fit dubious off and trying
to gauge the height above me. He said, if they
you know, if you were doing something else, sometimes if
you were spraying, you'd go underneath him. But yeah, they'd

(04:25):
see the bone just stop and pop up and go
along and then and it would come, you'd load it
and away it went. So yeah, very very interesting.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
You could almost say it as a highly glorified model airplane.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh absolutely. And you know, as we know, with the
world the way it is, thrones are used for a
lot of things. But another you know, he was telling
me that he does a lot of spraying with it,
and with AI you can shet it alight and say
I'm just wanting to do gorse and broom or whatever
it may be, and it'll just you know, shoot around

(04:58):
and drop down on what it's got to do, spot
spraying on the hill or whether it's wherever you're doing it.
But a great thing for various blocks on hell blocks
that you've got a bit of course of broom away
up high. You can't drag the hose to and you know,
pretty expensive get the helicoprim, but we do so you know, certainly, yeah,

(05:19):
certainly got their place and like we spoke about last
week with the technology with Halter and and everything like that,
Gp Hessing. I mean, they'll just get more and more efficient,
I guess, and you know we'll see a lot more
of them in the future.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
You're getting a touch of fly on your tourtose as well.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah. So just bought the two d's back from hod
and Gully Road day before yesterday and got them into
the yards. Laurie came, we loaded them and see just
a couple of two or three was just a little
bit of fly and started. That's only been over there
a couple of days beforehand. Thought we'd dodge that, but no,
So I'm just going to draft them off very shortly

(05:55):
and deal with them. But I would have thought it
was sort of calling off enough in the mornings to
stop that little Australian greenfly. But no, and we're jud
to everything in a couple of weeks. So I'll keep
the two d his handy and hopefully they'll be all right.
But you know, they have got well they've got November
December and January feb year, so they've got four months
well on them. And it's just at that stage that

(06:16):
the green fly like it the us of all the
second Ton you know, a few months, a few weeks
we spoke about that. They're all good. But I haven't
seen a lot of those because they are away up
and hillblocks out to get them in the next couple
of days and get ready to I suppose we'll have
to TOCs and sex and eye dip and all that.
So that's coming up. It's good when the weather's like this,
and I think it probably will be right.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Dog, try results, give us some wisdom I know.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
