Dylon is involved with the Southern Field Days as well,
plowing an extraordinay. We've spoken to Bob in the past.
He seems to spend quite a bit of the winter
plowing on the other side of the world. But today
we're talking about Southern Field Days. He's involved with the

weeks time. It is the Wins the dates of Look
at mc calender. I should really know this. Eleven's the
thirteenth of February. There we go, got there eventually, Bob,
how thanks you health. But bed firstly, ground conditions on farm.
He had a bit of rain over the weekend. Understandably
it was welcome.

It was we needed a bit of mortre. Things are
very drawer, but we will need some boo yellow to
come out badly. But the sun would be much appreciated.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
How are your crops looking.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Debris in the process of getting organs for harvest, So yeah,
I think they would appreciate of the rain. But yeah,
you never want to comment too much, so you get
the feed the groin in the bin. But some of
them are looking awesome the spring stuff for that bit
of ron and be good or to helpful in them
and continue to fill them and win the crops. They
already appreciate it. So looking good.

There's some really good looking winter crops around the show.

Yeah, yeah, looking pretty good at the sofa and hopefully well,
get a favor of award and it carries on that work.

Now the field days. You've been involved here for quite
a while. You're achievement as well for a couple of terms.
But the tractive Paul tell us about the tractive ball.
What's so popular about it?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Oh, well, I suppose it's it's uh just people breaking
r right. Suppose people say the tractor is good, so
we'll bring along the field does put her on the
sleep and see if we can get that pair of
the ground on order. Where do you full of shit?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
It's not the people have got an addiction to diesel.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Oh you're plenty of that. Wee bit of addiction that
myself doing a bit of tinkering and gett a bit
of smoke flowing out.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, the tinkering that goes into these tractors, because there's
not your standard tract if it normally goes and what
they do. You do see them in there as well.
But there's some real modified behemous to take part.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Oh yeah, definitely. Yeah, I'm not sure if we've got
there's a goal on Canterbury. He's put a V twelve
d for it in the trainer and it's pretty awesome
for the sort like COVID a kit and but then
as Edmund and I we've just sort of added is
pretty sort of basic traders. But we have stoken a
probably seven times or six times more horse prower than
what they were then they standard.

Now if you put a V twelve and a tractor
you're going to be towing. The only thing you'll be
towing is the bloody fuel take behind you.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Oh you've it's any short runs only doing one hundred meters,
there's not like you going out the work one hundred
heat for the day. Be a different story then, or
they wouldn't handle, the trains wouldn't handle, the motor would
get out there. They're only for short runs while there
does not not two.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, obviously it's modified for what it's doing and it's
certainly an event on its sign. So what's involved with
the tread to pull exactly for the uninitiated.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
So we've got different classes either to the year woulds
to be standard class, which will be different weight classes
depending on the tractors that turn up, So probably under
teen ton and over maybe if somewhere around there we're
modifwed super modified. We're gonna have you got to trucks
coming along as well. It's a different classes to suit,
different different treats to turn up on the day.

So what kind of tracks are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I think it's a six before Seemi truck turning up.
So we've got a fifth wheel row while we built
a few years ago that hooks on the turntable so
we can hook the sleevee on behind it.

So likes of a Uni marg type situation perhaps as well.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Ah, they could turn up the years ago we had
one of those monster trucks for a lot. They having
the Mirican Army. We have prepared a couple of name
on the sleech that quite good good crab please it well.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
They go pretty good telling or does it all come
down to power to white ratio when it comes down
to judging, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Pretty much. Pair of white ratio, Well they can get
that horse, pair of the grant.

So the dimensions of the sledge, the white on the sledge,
how does that work?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
So when we designed it we made it say, well,
I looked a few different other ones around the country
side and we picked what sort of picked an audio,
what how much foot brought me watered? But there here
is they've got the trick demanded on it that we weigh.
The trick is in and there's a computer program in
there works on how much oil flow to put into
the sledge to how much weight to apply to the
sleege to get your in theory stop the tractor before

It sounds very complicated.

Oh, there's a weave been involved. But we're funtally understand
that there's not too bad. But we woul getting the
system sort of. But we're every year we're twinkering with
it and getting it better and better, and we've got
to going pretty good. We're prettyppy if that's running.

So how long would it take to make a sledge
of this nature?

Oh there was quite some time. Yeah, it was to
to two months at least building for the engineer. When
we build it and a lot of work went into
it and with a lot of poor planning before we
started and designing and.

The sledge goes round the South Island. Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
It does? Yeah, so we're we're a wheels of Monica
and had to get great event up. There really a
lot of people watching we go to Mayfield the backyard beauties,
actually the sleeves of anyone. Let's have a practice pool
field does it's going to be running it this weekend
at crank Up.

It's normally a big crowd pleaser, especially for the uninitiated
to the field days too.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Oh yeah, we get a lot of people. Would have
five or six people on that fence for one hundred meters,
it's a lot of people.

Yes, for sure. Hey, I were touched on the plowing
as well. Now you're planing extraordinary less. Be honest, your
cats arrived home because you had to bring it home
after a couple of years. As far as getting it
back over to Europe for the next edition happening later
this year. Is it a drama or you're pretty much
part of Are you used to what you've got to
do now? Oh?

Well, there's a bit of drama because we changed the
cano last time, but now this time we're just manager
that's coming for this this year's and fopate in the
process of talking to the shipping companies so we can
get some dates and start breaking backwards to when it's
got to go in the box. So I'm hoping they've
use my key that's overseas that this year's nationals and
then we'll go in the box and get on the
wave XNIX over to Croatia.

Now you say you've got a manager, break that down
a bit more. I thought you'd be pretty independent.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
No, No, we have a team manager. So we had
any issues and stuff like that, he looked after that,
so I can try and focus on the job at end.

So it's not a personal manager handling public appearances or anything. Body.

We haven't got to let sleeperty stage yet.

Yeah, it's all kicking off in a couple of weeks
and preparations are underway out there, marquees going up here,
there and everywhere, and just expect God to be cranking
no pun intended with what's having it in down this weekend,
but over the next three weeks it's all go.

Oh, they'll be saying there. It would just be like
it's correct for the district every two years heaven Field
days around and great for all their local community fundraisers
and groups that are doing the fundraising on site as well.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
So if anybody what looks at the tractor port do
you just registered before on the day or what do
you do?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
So what we would like this year like because of
the traffic and stuff coming in a field day's perfectly well,
we want all tractors to be on site before well
by Tuesday night. It's just a real hessful of the
traffic of people try and come in on Wednesday. So
part of your entry fee if you do get in
and get your track doorn on Tuesday, then we'll supply
gate passes to get in. That's part of your entry fee.
So it's a bit of a wee bit of an
incentive for the guys to get in and then just

a bit of cour to see for other people trying
to get in the field days on Wednesdays. Not even
tractors on the road blocking the road. Yep.

catch up? No doubt will be in touch over the
