Speaker 1 (00:08):
The Country Crossover happens every Friday here on the Muster.
Michelle Watt, executive producer of the Country, joins us, Good Afternoon,
a throwback with the Backstreet Boys.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Afternoon, Andy, and who doesn't like the Backstreet Boys? Although
I think I was talking to you earlier in the
week and I said I was a five girl the
band five huge fan when I was probably a teenager. Well,
I would have been a teenager, let's face that, I
wasn't going to be mid twenties. Are still a fan
of those guys. But let's just say that my wardrobe
at that age looked a bit like or it still
probably does, because I don't know if mum and dad

(00:39):
had actually taken those posters down. It looks a bit
like a late nineties time capsule with posters of Leno'scaprio
five was probably a Backstreet Boys one. And there, I'll
be honest.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Boy band's absolutely exploded from the mid nineties or pretty
much late nineties onwards. And of course Simon Cow was
pop Idol and the Light. They just went gangbusters.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Oh it was crazy. It was a different time, wasn't.
I Mean, you don't see boy and girl bands that
are often anymore. And in fact, those music shows I
think Excepted might still be going on. I'm not sure
some of those reality shows. I don't watch them anymore.
But do you remember the band ones where they're putting
the bands together were always the best ones, the New
Zealand version, you'll remember that was true Bliss.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
I believe they they started everything off. They were the
first reality group as such. I think she might be
right back in ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, that's right, and it was a big obviously, it
was round. It was after the Spice Girl slightly after
all that stuff was just absolutely booming. And then of
course she had like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera. Pop pop
was in its heyday back then. Andy Shakira, Shakira.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Shakura Shakurra, look a big. It's been a short week,
but it's been a busy week. This was in a
bit of a ceasefire made. It's like it feels like
it's just a half time. They've gone to buy a beer.
It's really weird to try and figure out what actually
Donald Trump's thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Oh, there's so much going on in the world at
the moment, and a lot of it's vastly negative. And
we all seem to be a little bit addicted to it.
I think I don't know if it's a post COVID
scene or what's going on, but it does feel like
we are slightly addicted to the chaos and the negativity,
and I think sometimes you need to take a step back.
But interesting me with Trump obviously everything going on there,

(02:21):
the ceasefire. The words have been thrown around about the
twenty first Amendment. Now have you read about that one, easie?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Not lately?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
So the twenty fifth Amendment is when as one of
the amendments, where as president could be removed from his position. However,
I don't think they can use the twenty first Amendment.
I went down a bit of a rabbit holess week
on this one. I don't think from my reading anyway,
that they can use that to remove Trump, because it's
not for criminal senses. It's more if they're incapacitated and
fun facts for your and d That amendment only came

(02:50):
about after JFK was assassinated around so he was assess
say in nineteen sixty seven, I think, and I think
the amendment came into place in nineteen sixty nine and
it was largely DUBI sound of it around what happened
with JFK.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
The fact we're paying just about four dollars a leter
for diesel tells you that we will have a vested
interest in what's going on.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Oh, absolutely, andy, But you know, everyone has choices. I mean,
everyone's choices are different. I'll admit that, you know, not
everyone has the same choices, but we all have choices.
And I think petrol and diesel has largely been quite
and I'm talking about domestic users here, not obviously farmers
and people that use diesel like truckies and things like that,
that don't have a choice in the matter really because

(03:29):
they need it to create a livelihood. But those of
us who drive around, you know, our choice is that
we don't. We don't have to drive as much. We
can drive less. We can choose whether we put more
picture in our car or not if we want to.
And I think people forget about that, and I think
it brings me back to the topic of Stolism, which
I think I spoke to you about earlier, which is

(03:51):
a famous philosophy. Marcus Aurelius was one of the famous
philosophers for that, and it has about Marcus Aurelius.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Where's Ephral He was Greek.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Famous Greek philosopher. There he goes some afternoon rules. Tell
you there's an afternoon research for you. Andy, you can
go and you can go down the rabbit hole of
stolism over the weekend and come back to me and
report next week. But they talk about what we can
control what we can't. So we can control our thoughts,
our actions, and our beliefs, but we can't control the weather,

(04:24):
other people's actions and outcomes of those. So things like
well in the middle least, we have no control over that,
we have no control over the fuel, but we can
control what we do. Our sounds about that, and I
think people need to remember that control the controllables, don't
think about the things you can't, and hopefully everything will
be all right.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, it's a really pragmatic way to look at things.
And I'll tell you what I have Bryce Swanson on
the show yesterday in the Beef and Lamb Slut talking
about an event that happened at Rosdale Pub on Wednesday,
The Beef and Lamb hout and you getting young people
involved into farm ownership and bry are being very upfront
about the situation saying, look, people last in this industry

(05:03):
about two years who were younger decide there's no way
of owning a farm and they get out of it.
But this event, likes of Ashley Burden, a lot of
farmers in the know, Keety Buckingham and Henry Buckingham, Matt
Ward and the likes had a yarn and they just
talked about there is a lot of things to be
positive about in the she can b sector at the moment,
and the way she came back, the way she spoke

(05:24):
on the year was very eloquent and I'd recommend people
go back and listen to it.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Oh such a big topic too, isn't it. Andy. I mean,
you get into farming and get into that as a
career option, and it's a career option. It's a definite
career one in New Zealand, especially with the primary sector
doing so well, and you look at all the young
people with Zana McDonald Awards going through a Young Farmer
some of those guys and girls that have come out
of that and made huge careers, massive names for themselves

(05:53):
in that industry. So it's a definite career path. But
if your ultimate pass is to own a farm. It's
a hard one to take, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Rome wasn't eild in to day? Is that Philosopher would
have told us. I suppose you're.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Considering Rome is in a different country.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Maybe yeah, I know, just the name, just after I
was looking at something on Facebook last night. Anyway, super Rugby,
your Highlanders, actually the Highlanders, I should say, Ah, we
can say it's must win, but jeez, this this really is.
This defines a season straight out.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Hey, look, I'm choosing to be positive about this, Andy.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I'm being pragmatic.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
We've come off of buye were look at. We're going
to be fresh. We're playing the Brumbies tonight obviously at
foursithe bas Stadium seven o five. Now, of course recent history,
I think they're fourteen thirteen, so they're pretty close as
far as wins. I think the Hinds of one thirteen
games against them and the Brummis have one fourteen against
the Highlanders. I think that's the statistic. The Brumbies have

(06:50):
just had a narrow loft to the Warritas and the
Highlanders have come off a bye and a win to
Mawana Pacificus. So it could be quite interesting to see
what happens here two close teams. I'm hoping the High
go well. I mean, you know, got to support the
home team. Much 're in there, you're a lifer. It's
a bit like supporting the Stags, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
There's a lot of sport on at the moment. The
crossover rugby's been going. We're halfway through this competition and
crack is just rounded up. For Pete's sake. Coincidentally, the
Brumbies are fourth on the table.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yes, and there's a lot going on at the moment.
For me, it feels wrong that cricket is still going
and there's a crossover with rugby. That just feels weird.
You know, back in the old days and we were young, Andy,
you had a definite stop between cricket and rugby, couldn't you.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
But all of a sudden, I mean, the talk about
this global season for rugby. Heaven help us of that happens.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, it'd be too much rugby. I think I have
a I like the separation of it, and I think
when it runs into different parts of the year, it's
just it's too much one after the other. I love
watching the All Blacks, Don't get me wrong. I enjoy
watching the Super Rugby. I probably enjoyed the NPC even
more than Super Rugby. I'll be honest. It's slightly a

(07:56):
little bit above that. But when it runs through the
entire you do get a bit of fatigue from it.
I think, yeah, that's how I feel about it.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Michelle What always appreciate your time on the Muster. You
enjoy the weekend.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Out the Landers.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
But Schelle, what in the country crossover you listen to
the Muster up next? I'm not too sure either Elliott
Smith or even Teredar. I've got to make a plan.
