Well, there you go, you go. Speaking of talent, we've
got a lot of talent on show tomorrow night, Friday
Night for the ILC South On Sports Awards. We got
sixty nominees across twenty two sporting codes, so in about
eight or nine categories where we were going to be
an announcing the winners but also celebrating some pretty amazing
achievements from the last twelve months or so. But gee,

some there's some famous names that are going to be
that are going to be read out, some some great
stuff to talk about. So looking forward to Friday night.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, congratulations of Jacob Duffy's going to go back to
back for the main award and just putting it out there. Hey,
Ben Stokes, what do we make of this guy? Very
good cricketer, a very talented he's a leader, but is
he really a leader? I mean, he's got too many
blemishes beside his name now for me.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, speaking of talented cricketers, Ben Stokes, I mean I think,
I mean, some of those Sunday sessions can be some
of the best sessons of your life, can't they. But
I guess when you're the English cricket captain and the
team has been under pressure and under fire for some time,
potentially ever since the last Ashes series, then this is

not a position that you want to put yourself or
your your or your coach Bears McCallum, who's also been
under similar sort of pressure. You know, this is this
is pretty pretty average timing. So could this be the
thing that sort of spells the end of both of them? Well,
well potentially, we'll just have to wait and see.

The English cracket team is one of the most scrutinized
sporting teams on the planet. I don't know the English
football team courtesy of the Fleet Street Press, which is
relentless but nonetheless saying, these guys need to realize they
just got to toe the line. It just comes as
the territory.

Yeah, I mean, I mean, once upon a time, what
went on tour stayed on tour. That's certainly not the
case now in these days of social media and whatnot.
And it was pretty intriguing really to be able to
sit down, you know, only a day or so later
and be able to read a story which was almost
a blow by blow account of the rolling feast that

was the English celebrations after that, that Opening Test win
over New Zealand. So there's year there's no secrets anymore.
But all the people involved know that's the case. But
you know, it doesn't always mean that the behavior follows

From a Black Caps perspective as a fan, that was
really disappointing. Yes, the pitch is below average, but we
both had the equal opportunity to go out there and
make a name for ourselves. And all of a sudden,
you're fast forwarding to Australia. We're living in Great Hope.
It's like the Stags and we had a Shield challenge
thirty years ago. You're always thinking maybe one day we'll win,
but I don't see what the black Caps are going.

I don't see what they take to Ozzie that's going
to scare this Ossie bowling attack.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Certainly need to find some runs, don't we, And and
I guess it's increasingly obvious that that Caane Williamson has
no doubt he's in the twilight of his career and
what a career it's been. But there's we can't rely
on it on a cane and a swan song. Sure
he's probably got you know, he's going to have another
beginnings in him at some state before he does pull
(03:49):
up stumps. And there are a number of tests on
the on the calendar for in the next twelve months,
so he'll get a chance to do that. But you know,
we've got to find some find some runs from somewhere.
That that pitch did look diabolical at times. That ball
was moving all around the place, wasn't it. But as
you say, both teams had to bet on it. I
guess we just needed that one or two players who

could dig in and do something heroic get themselves on
that honors board at Lord's for scoring runs would have
been amazing and potentially that was their best chance of
getting a win in this series. But you know, I
guess if we learned anything, it's never to count this
black Cats team out. I think over the years, as
we've seen different players retire your trend bolts and at Ceatram,

we sort of we thought, well that's it for the
golden era of New Zealand cricket. But they just sort
of keep on keeping on. So you know, they've they've
earned a bit of faith and I guess we'll stand
with them for a bit longer.

Southern Steel they've got the top of the table clash
or nearly top of the table against the Tactics six weekend,
and the Steel need to finish pretty much for us,
don't They just to solidify a home advantage.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Just just absolutely everything to play for. You know, I
guess those of us through hark back to to a
few years ago and to remember those great rivalry between
the Southern Sting and Canterbury Flames Robin Broughton and Mark
Foster back in the day, and the Sting teams just
always seemed to have the edge over the over the
christ Church side. But you know, it's been eleven games
(05:16):
now since the Steel of beaten the Tactics what a
what a great time it would be to to break
that duck. And as you say, you know, a win,
potentially a win would give them a home qualification final,
depending if results went their way the night before and
the Magic could somehow sneak a win over the Mystics,
(05:37):
it could even give them a home you know, a
home advantage all the way through to a potential grand
final and how big would that be? But yeah, I
mean it's it's gonna be awesome when you Threw hasn't
had a win over Donald Wilkins. Obviously, the two Southern
coaches going head to head doesn't get any better than that,
So you know, it's it's pretty easy to get excited
for this one. Southern Steel do have hit a bit

of a speed bumping in terms of losing their captain.
Can you're a Poyete, such an influential player in that team.
But you know they did show against the Stars last
week that there's still plenty of magic there, so you know,
hopefully they can get the job done.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Southland Sharks in the NBL the same thing. They're just
going on their winning ways.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, it's been an interesting process, I think just over
the last couple of weeks bringing Tobias Cameron and Max
Darling into what was already a pretty strong team. So
I guess that's been their challenge, just to sort of
rework that chemistry within the within the squad. They've got
massive depth now and they've sort of getted there at
that stage where they don't need to see Timmins to

go out there and score thirty points and get a
whole bunch of rebounds because they can share that workload around.
So I guess they're just working out how they're going
to do that, and they head up to Nelson this
weekend take on the Giants. Giants sitting well down the table,
so but you know, potentially a bit of a banana
skin game too, because you know, you'd hope that they

won't there won't be any complacency. It's an early afternoon game,
et cetera, et cetera. So hopefully the Sharks King keep
on their winning ways because they need to keep pace
and keep touch with the Auckland to Atara. It'd be
lovely if they could, if we could just knock them
off the top of the table towards the end of
the round robin and get a home advantage for those finals.
