Steve Henderson farms down that a way with his wife
Tracy dairy farming. You can't beat the South on a
good day. Steve o hell sings down in your neck

Edy and she's a mentor. Today. No wind, and it
looks like the tempers are going to get up there
around this sort of you know, late teens, early twenties today,
and it's looking pretty good for the rest of the
week and early next week, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
The forecast is looking really good for the next few
days and it kind of makes that for what we've
had to tolerate.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I think so. And that's what people say, oh, an
earlier autumn and early once. I said, no, we're always
doing it, still getting credit from two springs with it,
and I think we're still in credit. So if we
get in a week like this and it's March kicked
off in the years, any similar LEPs with and we've done.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Bearing in mind some parts of northern central South and
are still pretty dry too.

Yeah, it's funny how self, and just so small but
so big, isn't it. You know, we can see the
hot neuis from here and just on the other side

if a week of no rain coming through, ye had

a boat and then he backed in the reality today
and just making sure everything's all honky dory, and just
you still gramps in your grass and your conditions, score
caws in that and keep them into herds that are

a bit lighter, and go through the scanning results and
kicking out the meat they aren't quite producing enough. And yeah,
it's quite a cool time of the season next week
because nothing's real critical, but it's getting you well up
in the spring if you make some good decisions now.

Fishing up in the Bay of Islands not bad, no.

No, it was it was well. No, you can't complain
because you're away from here and you're somewhere else sitting
on a boat. So yeah, it was cool. And man,
there's there's a lot of territory out there and a
lot of country. But you know, you think you've got
around New Zealand and seen a bit of it, but
we've only seen such a small drop of it, and
you're in New Zealand's a pretty pretty cool place. But
then you've got field lind down here, the chalk and cheese.

But you're still doing the same thing, sitting on water,
socializing him a good time.

That's what I was about to say. The Bay of Islands,
I will be honest, I've ever been up there far.
I think I've been as far north as Walkworth and
it just sounds like a standing piece of the country.
But it's just so far differently, it's so far removed from.

The South it is.

Yeah. Just the fish life too, so for a couple
of dives, and yeah, the amount of snapper and just
a huge snaper two and well we obviously don't get
that down here, and we didn't manage to see any kingfish.
But you know if you sting rays and yeah, and
you're only diving without well night gloves on and are
really really thing with so so yeah, it's definitely different.

Pretty tasting condition scoring has been the big thing recently.

Yep, So now we're all tided up on both farms
here we got eight percent on here she milk and
job and twelve percent on the properly up at school Road.
So all in all pretty good. I mean we heard
tasted too, so we the only tasters last year and
then the only teasted this year and this year with
a half in them, but with the only scales coming through.

So you put those two together where you can carry
out a few kales, which is pretty cool to get
to that saide where you can carry out on them. Yeah,
you want not your needs. So there's a few step
with scales and we're just getting rid of and one
of that putting milk in the bet because he imagine
give that feeds of it early calvi and kale that
needs to put a condition on.

So they'll just go off to the works. You get
the bunny while the going is good, Yeah.

things to remember.

You just want to give a couple of reminders.

Yeah, so yep, Samuel condition square I heard next week
and it's just around you know, you've got that opportunity,
like I said about So you know that girl that's
at a four now and kind of carver early August,
maybe put her on once today, still get a bit
of milk offer and then look after them and they
might even be you know late April early may drive
off just to those chos back up to conditions to

the carved down well and then just goes through are
mating results. It was the condition score of four KOs
that were you know that didn't didn't hold to their
first pregnancy in the eat of the highest indy rate too,
So just heaving their in mind, you know, you're sacrificing
us a little bit of milk, but short term gains
for long term pay with short term pays a lot

for long term sorry, Whereas you can keep their milk
at the other end and get their care back and
cart early next season play it'll still looking good. So yep,
just use the body condition score information. And obviously those
heavyweights you can just put them the feet off because
they can be detrimuted to wanting a winter in heavyweight

So now's the time condition's good and most people's covered

the time to manipulate those condition scores to get them
more bring that range down anyway, so the average is
a lot tighter their.

things around on your farm to try and that comprehend
saving wise what you need to do.

So we just got a couple more turnip heads to
get back in the young grass and that's you know,
that's the majority of the track to work sort of
done for the season. So yes, we're shooting the town
and you Craig had to go around three or four
different picture stations two days ago to get one of
the leader tank filled up and the American law to
your company right that afternoon to follow a bulk tank up.

But yeah, you know it is real and just reading
between the lines. But it's not going to fix itself overnight,
so it is worth being mindful, you know, to take
the two wheel instee the four wheeler, you know, turning
your track. They're off while you're filling up with something else,
and all those little savings they might just become habits
and then it's going to you know, flow through for

year on year.
