afternoon to catch up the Warren Ross farming out that way.
He's a swede baron as well. We've talked about the
fire before. But if you're after swedes and gore, here's
Mama Dare's place on Williams Street's the place to be.

Well, you have an end of the year. No, it's
it seems to be a good wee we spot for
sweet stallways. William Street seems to be a high traffic flow.
So now they seem to do all right.

So the Swedes and the rest of the pedict that
aren't going into the wheelbarrow in the middle of the gore, how's.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It been, No, we'll just put them up. A deer
on the swedes last week, so it's coming to an indisha.
Be another another week or two and let's be done
for the year. Well it's gone fast, he's, well, we
are middle of July, aren't we. So yeah, you know
really the springs only calving is not far away, the
the guess, and and you know August is August and

Landings just around the corner. And said's you know the
winter's going by pretty quickly.

Are you seeing any signs of spring on the farm yet?
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Well, my brother in law, Garth, he found on duttlings
walking behind mum there two or three weeks ago. So
really I'm not sure what that was, what what that
means they but yeah, so that was back in June. Yeah,
this buttery for them.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Absolutely, But I mean it's just a circule of life,
is it not?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, it is, isn't it? But yeah, normally it's not
to August or see the minute I was like, oh
my god, I can't believe that, but sure enough he was, yeah,
Mum and samy ducklings. So yeah, in June it.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Is really So as far as fee utilization, grass covers
and the likes, you're looking all right.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Well, the grass covers are fine around here. We we
don't have anything on grass. It's just been taken away
obviously not going now. But you know, right through on
too June it was just ticking over nicely. But so yeah,
we've all start putting animals on a off cropping on
the grass and probably another three four weeks probably have
to be fair so into middle August, crops and crops
are holding up right, So now we've got plenty plenty
(02:12):
of feet in front of us.

When the deer go on there.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I'm pretty sure I've asked us previously, but do you
put them behind a reel or just give them the.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Paddic No, no, we gave up, and then a few
years again we just put them give them the paddocks again.
Utilization is pretty good. They just walk around slowly and quietly,
and they get the leaves off pretty quick normally. But
the rest of the bulb or of Charles talks to Yeah,
they just walk around and yeah, just happy days.

Really, anything that's left, you give a bit of a
grub and get them off of something in there, just
a nuzzle, nibble over it, kettle perhaps.

Welly gin is a role that the hinds can stay
on those paddocks right through it all early October anyhow,
month out from our fawnings. So there's a rule the
fodder beat. They seem to get in and dig it
all out anyhow. So when you got it up, you
don't see not a lot of great deal of quarabat
come up at all compete the swede.

Any hell, it's interesting just because of the different because
there's how beat works, I suppose, but how.

Beat works and the day just love it that much
that they always see sniff it out and dig down
to it. And if you get a wee weet period,
well we're sort of damp at the moment. Yeah, that
they'll they'll get in and dig it all out and
want it all And yeah, as I say, when you
got to grip the peta cup, it's it's it's nothing
comes up. So now they they're pretty good at cleaning

the petta cup.

That's a seize we've head that I suppose, And especially
over the past three weeks.

We've had winter when we need winter. That's the thing
with these frosts and the lights.

Well this was the sine off here, of course, is
that we are we are, We're damp here at one move.
But it's nice to get winter and winter for a change,
and hopefully the spring will be nice for us.

You haven't been under five I straight lately looking for
a feed.

No, I haven't been a bunch of ection at the moment.
Is a proper wagging. We fixed. So it's he's a
story of story pick for another day.

We've got Time's a we incident with the props. It's
got we've been up so it's.

Well, we're using the boat, so that's a good thing.
And there there's a week story with a with an anchor,
open chain and rip around the props. But that's right,
it's uh, there was no real harm answer, it's it's
yeah wagging fux at the moment.

Well, there six of us on the boat, so we
can all probably take a little bit of blame for it,

Barry Robinson Memorial rarely Southland happening this week here. Now
you're involved the team, you love your rallying.

It's a really cool thing that Scott back up and
running over the past couple of seasons, I believe.

Yeah, so that's it's been happening in Southland for a
quarter or every year for the last number of years.
But this is the first time it's been what first
time or first time in a number of years they've
actually been part of the national circuit. So there's six
six rallies and part of the national circuit. And yeah,
it's coming back to Wyndham mainly, to be fair, So

it's good to see it.

Think down south, it's really good to see it down south,
I mean rally and you hear about a lot the
Otago Rally is synonymous, but down here it's got a
good following as far as spectators and the likes.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Oh no, absolutely, So there's oh can't I can't quote
any how many cars are as intered in it, but
they're carlon all over New Zealand. And I'm pretty confident
sure that Haydon Patton is coming over to rally in
it as well this year. So he's been railing around
the world and in the w r C, you know,
all over the place, so he's coming back home and
coming south to compete in it. So it'll be good

to see him run the roads of Windom as well.

Yeah, hate and patting goes pretty well, to be fair.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
No, absolutely, As I was saying, yes, great to see
him back downself, sir so No, it's should be a
should be a good weekend.

So do you know many dates around the rally when
it starts and the likes of people want to know
a bit more.

You can. There'll be a spot online you can google
that sort of thing. I can't I can't hear you
off hand exactly what it is. But yeah, most of
the roads are all around Becka, Wyndham, Makana down to
towards Tokanui and there's a good stage at the Dundale.
He tracked there, so that's the last one into the day, sir.

Now there's pen here. Spectators are viewing in spots and
stuff like that, stuff like that around the place, so
you know, you get out there and yeah, have a look.

Head seventeenth to eighteenth the ceremony you're starting car viewing
a next street. Competitive gravel stages are held before concluding
at the Esco Park Hotel. High speed stages include the
Tudor Rail, Windom Value, Wakawa Valley Courses, Hayden pedd and
Carter String and several others stand out and tells themselves.
Spectators can catch your cars up close in grab autographs

at four o'clock on Friday seventeenth and the cargo Central
before the first card of parts on Saturday mornings, so
certainly synonymous event got to be a goodie.

Yeah, there's the ceremonial will start, you know, Anne under
the cargo. They've got a street blocked off I think
might be Eash Street maybe or something like that, and
they need this bit of a show and shine and
you walk around the cars and have looked everything and
get some autographs if you want, or say for photos
and stuff like that. So it's it's a it's a
good couple of ears. Therefore, if you've got kids that

want to go, have we knowed you around, you know,
close up and stuff like that, so it's you know,
they think they're going to do a good job of it,
so that should be good good.
