in love with the whole idea of this brand. It
aims to inspire sustainable living, mindful consumption, something.

Speaker 2 (01:16):

I'm really excited about Saturday, especially because I'm going to
be there at the store broadcasting for a few hours
some noon until four o'clock. We're going to be saying
hello to the people coming in and chatting with you
and the staff, and broadcasting on the air as well.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
So it's going to be a huge, huge day. But
first of all, first of all.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Congratulations on the grand opening and the beginning of this
new journey at the Kind Matter Company. I mean, it
really is an exceptional idea. How did this all come along?
Where does this come from?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Laura?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Goodness? It started quite a while ago, I have to say, so.
You know, the company itself started in twenty eighteen, but
the inception of it, I think really was when my
oldest daughter was born, and that was, you know, twenty
one years ago. She had a lot of allergies, a

(02:46):
lot of you know, skin issues and sensitivities, and it
really forced me to start looking at the products we
were using, the food we were consuming. And it's one
of those journeys that once your eyes are open and
you know, you can't unsee what you see, you can't
unknow what you know. So that's really where it started

(03:06):
for me, diving deep into more of a healthy, sustainable lifestyle,
and then, you know, fast forward to twenty eighteen. It
was it was an idea that started literally at my
kitchen table because I was I was on this journey
of a sustainable lifestyle and really healthy, clean products for
my family and was finding it a challenge to get

(03:28):
the products, you know, in my own hometown and close
to where I lived. So you know, I was ordering
things online. I was driving an hour one way to
pick up some things, driving an hour another way to
get other things, and you know, I just thought that
if I was having this sort of issue finding the
products that I needed, there must be other people who

(03:48):
wanted the same things as me, but also we're having
an issue finding them so my goal really was to
start a business that allowed people to have everything that
they needed in one spot. So that's that's how it started.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
We are speaking with Laura Newton. She's the founder and
director of the kind Matter Company. Grand opening this week
and especially Friday and Saturday, of course at the Heartland
Town Center. They were just off Rodeo Drive fifty nine
eighty five Rodeo Drive, Unit number four. Find them online,
by the way, go to Instagram, Facebook at the kind

(04:21):
Matter Company is where you'll find them at the kind
Matter Company and give them a follow there and then
we hope to see you out on Saturday. It's going
to be a huge day between twelve noon and four o'clock,
all kinds of special sales and surprises. That's where their
flagship story is at the Heartland Town Center, so in Mississauga.
So we're very excited about this big promotion going on.

(04:43):
Plus in a moment, we're going to tell you how
we're going to be giving stuff away right now as
a matter of factory in the next couple of days.
So the kind Matter Company, how big is your staff?
By the way, is this a big you know, a
big company you've got going on?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Huge store.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Well, the store itself is, yes, a very large footprint,
so you know, forty five hundred square fee. So lots
of lots of staff are needed. I think we've got
about eight staff there currently, maybe gosh, maybe ten. There's
a lot.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, I'm sure.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I'm sure they've been very busy lately, especially again we're
all set up. I mean, I was reading about your
mission in the company history too, the goal to support
a low waist lifestyle. That's often not that easy to do,
Easier said than done. Would you agree to that?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
You know, I think that it's easier said than done
until you until you start really looking at what you're
using every day and you know, implementing small changes into
your life. So if you're thinking about, you know, how
can I go from you know, creating two bags of
garbage at the end of my driveway every week or
every two weeks, you know, to one that even feels

(05:52):
like a lot. But when you're able to kind of
break it down into more digestible, small bite sized pieces,
meaning doing one little thing every day that maybe decreases
your waste consumption, it becomes easier over time. So trying
to do it all at one time yes, it's difficult

(06:12):
and it seems overwhelming, but by just doing a little
bit better every day, it really is doable. And you know,
I also should mention that what that looks like for
each person is very different, right. We all have very
different lifestyles, different family dynamics, and so what may be

(06:33):
sustainability success for one person is different for the next.
So it's less about all of us doing everything perfectly
and exactly the same, and more about everybody doing a
little bit and doing what is manageable for us so
that it is long term and sustainable.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
So in this company, the Kid Outter Company was acquired
by Terra Greenhouses, a like minded company. I think a
lot of people, especially in the local area, are very
familiar with that brand, and that should tell you something
a little bit about the company. What kind of lifestyle
or products do you generally have, Like, what can we expect.
I'm not expecting a whole grocery list of everything, but

(07:13):
I mean, is there local Canadian made products as well
as international?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
How would you answer that?

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yeah, So, I mean we really do have a wide
range of products, which is amazing. Definitely, our focus is
always on Canadian maid you know, one of the biggest
pillars for sustainable living is really sourcing as much as
you can, as close to home as possible. So we
really do focus on Canadian made and we sell everything

(07:40):
from shampoo and conditioner to eco friendly makeup to cleaning supplies.
We've got Canadian made clothing. We've added some food items
into the mix as well, So there really is so much,
so much to see and something for everybody.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
It really sounds like it sounds like there's categories that
not everybody would expect to be in that category actually
of sustainability and such, so that's really thrilling. Laura Newton's
our guest. She is the founder and director of the shop,
the Kind Matter Company, which we're going to be broadcasting
from on Saturday. I'm going to be there from twelve

(08:17):
noon until four o'clock in the afternoon. We hope everybody
comes by to say hello and also have a look
around the big store forty five hundred square feet and
knowledgeable people.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
And passionate people behind the scenes working there.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Because when you work, I would imagine Laura, when you
work at the Kind Matter Company, this is not like
working at your typical and I don't want to mention
big name brands necessarily, But you know, I used to
slice roast beef at Druxies when I was a kid
and I worked in a bowling alley. This is true,
But this is a different kind of thing, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
It is. You know, the people that come to us
and want to work for us really are passionate about sustainability,
about sharing that with the world, really, and our job
is not to sell people product. It really is to
educate you on why you might want to use something
that we sell as opposed to a conventional brand, and

(09:10):
what the benefits of that are. Excuse me, you know,
it's important for them to be as passionate about the
products that we sell as I am, because that's how
we share that information with our customers. So it's less
about selling and more about the why behind the products,
why behind the brands, and being able to share that

(09:32):
with the customer.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Go to Instagram and also Facebook and follow them at
the Kind Matter Company. I think you'd be really glad
that you did a great company with a great history
to it, and Laura's very passionate about it. You can
just tell about the sound in her voice as well.
She now being the director founder and director of the company,
promoting a low waist, eco friendly lifestyle by curating and

(09:54):
selling sustainable home and body products.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Which is quite amazing.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Nothing really like this anywhere else that I can think
of around here, that is for sure. Let's tell everybody
about the big giveaway We've got happening on Saturday, because
I'm very excited about this. You guys are doing something
very special for our viewers and anybody who comes into
the store, but especially those who are listening to the program.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yes, I actually would love it if you could share
those details about the giveaway. What I will say about
what's happening over the weekend is we have a ton
of our vendors present, which is amazing. People get to
speak to, you know, the makers of the products directly,
and there's going to be just a ton of fun happening,
lots of giveaways and you know, samples and just meeting

(10:41):
with all of our staff.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
So in anticipation of the Kind Matter Company opening their
flagship store, happening all this week Black Friday, and when
I'm going to be there on Saturday. News Talk Saga
nine sixty is going to be there on Saturday at
the Heartland Town Center and the kid Matter Company is
giving away a one hundred dollars gift certificate to the

(11:04):
kind Matter Store a one hundred dollars gift certificate. And
it's very very simple to get in on this contest,
and you could be walking in the store already to
spend in a big manner, that's for sure. All you
have to do is this email the answer to this
question to Info at Saga nine sixty am dot CA.

(11:26):
Real simple. First of all, the email address is info
at SAGA nine sixty am dot C. And the question
is where is the flagship kind Matter Company store opening
this week? And where are we going to be on Saturday.
So I don't need the exact address. I think you

(11:47):
get the idea. We've mentioned it a few times already.
Where is the flagship kind Matter Company store opening? And
send it into info at SAGA nine sixty am dot C.
And we'd love to see you out there on Saturday,
especially any day of course, but I'm going to be
there on Saturday with the radio station, and I would

(12:07):
love to talk to some of the vendors that you
never get to walk into a store, you know, Laura
and say, you know, I really like this product. Can
I speak to the people who actually you know where
this comes from, the vendors, and yet in your case
you can.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
So that's really valuable.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
It's very valuable, and you know, it's I feel like
it's something that our customers have grown to love that
you know, any day, not even just on a grand
opening of a store, but oftentimes will have vendors popping
up in our locations and hanging out for a couple
of hours to do just that, to talk to our customers,
see what they like about the product. And it just

(12:41):
changes how you feel about the things that you're using,
right because there's a person behind that that product absolutely.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Laura Newton is the founder and director of the kind
Matter Company and you can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
As we mentioned, at the kind Matter Company, they're at
fifty nine eighty five Rodeo Drive, Unit four in the
Heartland Town Center. And you'll know that that specific area
of the Heartland Town Center that's like of the southeast
end basically of the massive metroplex that's called Heartland Town Center.

(13:13):
You've got George Richards big and tall there, You've got
the Crumbled Cookie, You've got Ren's pet depot, Panera bread
are all in there, so you definitely probably know where
it is, but it's very very simple to find. You'll
see the big sign. It's a big space itself. And
the quote I have here from the kind Matter Company,
and I'm sure you have a lot to do with this, Laura,
is that you can embrace a lifestyle rooted in intention, mindfulness,

(13:39):
and sustainability. The first thing that stood out for me
in that was intention, because we all like to think,
you know, that we're doing our part. My intentions are good,
but we're not always aware about some of the things
that maybe you know, we're not doing that's so well
contributing to the em betterment of the climate and the
environment and such.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
You know, yeah, and I think you know. It's the
problem is that we we know what we are taught,
or we know what we know, we know what we
see out there in you know, the in our society.
So if we go to a store and there's products
on the shelves, we assume, well, these are good, these
are good for us, these are okay, right, when in fact,

(14:20):
you know a lot of products out there have ingredients
that are not only harmful to the environment, but also
to ourselves and our families. So the really nice thing
is that we get to share with our customers just
how simple it is to make, you know, small switches
for different products and really make a big impact without
really changing their their lifestyle. Products now have come such

(14:45):
a long way products in the sustainability world, where you know,
changing your shampoo, you don't you don't necessarily notice, you don't.
You don't notice that you've made this big switch because
it is so convenient now to get these products that
are Canadian made, that are made with premium, really good ingredients,
that are no talks, and that work like conventional products.

(15:09):
I think that's been sort of a misconception in years past,
is when you switch to more natural products, they don't
work as well as the ones that we're used to,
and it's just not true.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
We're speaking with Laura Newton. She is the founder and
director of the Kind Matter Company. Come out out and
visit us on Saturday. I'm going to be there from
noon until four o'clock in the afternoon, broadcasting live with
a few cut ins here and there. We're going to
be talking to staff and talking to Laura. Looking forward
to meeting her in person, and also finding out more
about not just throwing tin cans in the blue box, right,

(15:38):
It's more than that, and I think it's a real
eye opener and I'm sure people will love to bring
their families, bring your kids, educate your kids when they're
young and when they're still willing to listen to you.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I'm kind of half joking on that, but you know
what I mean. How does your family feel about all
this too, Laura?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Well, you know, I think for my family, it's just
been part of our lives for so long. And look,
I'm not saying we are perfect and we you know,
produce no waste and everything is always you know, just
so here that's not the case. We're human and you
know sometimes we we obviously create wastes. So we really
try our very best to do what we can. And

(16:18):
my kids have just always kind of grown up this way,
so they know we are a no sense household. You know,
we really are conscious about what we eat as well
as what we put on our bodies. So it just
has become their norm. And now that products are so
well made in the sustainable industry, you know, it's easy
to do that. It's it's just maybe learning why we

(16:40):
need to switch from conventional products to more low talk products.
You know, again for not only the environment, also the
health of ourselves and our families.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
All this week, the kid Matter Company has had a
soft opening leading up to Good Friday, which is going
to be massive, and of course on Saturday, the whole
weekend will be huge. They're at fifty nine eight five
Rodeo Drive, Unit four fifty nine eighty five Rodeo Drive
in the Heartland Town Center. You can't miss them, and
it's going to be a huge, huge day, and we
invite you to come by on Saturday between noon and four.

(17:12):
And remember, in anticipation of the grand opening of their
flagship store, the kind Matter Company is giving a one
hundred dollars gift certificate to somebody to go to spend
it at the kind Matter Store. How do you get that?
This is how email the answer to this question. Where
is the flagship kind Matter Company store opening this weekend?

(17:35):
Where you don't need the exact address, just the general area.
If you know what I mean, We've been talking about
it many times. Answer that by sending an email to
info at SAGA nine sixty am dot CA A Friday morning,
I'll be announcing the winner. I think it's just after
nine o'clock in the morning. We'll be announcing the winner,

(17:55):
of course, contacting them off the air and getting that
one hundred dollar gives certificate for them, and I hope
they swing by, whoever it is. I hope they come
by on Saturday when I'm there to spend it the
kind Matter Company and you can find them, of course
on Facebook or Instagram at the kind Matter Company. So
where do you see this going forward?

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Lor?

Speaker 3 (18:15):
What are your plans? What are your bucket list wishes?
I guess for the store, I know it's just opening.
I mean I should give you a chance to ease
into that, but what do you have grander thoughts about
this or a direction you want to take it?

Speaker 2 (18:28):
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Well, I mean, my goal has always been to make
sustainable products more accessible to people, right, so this is
just another step in doing so. We're going to be
in an air an area now which is available to
so many new people, which is amazing, and my goal
is just to continue to do that. I feel like

(18:51):
every community needs a store like this if we're going
to be able to have access to these products and
to make it sustainable for people to get them. I
should also mention the store has a huge refill section,
and what that means is that customers can bring their
own containers, they can refill containers that they already have

(19:13):
at the store. When they buy products from the store,
they can then bring those containers back and refill them
with the product that they've already purchased, or refill it
with something new. And the benefit of the refill is
truly that you can buy as little or as much
as you want. So you know, this is a big
piece of the puzzle, and this is really what started

(19:34):
the business when I opened the store, and it's really
the thing that I truly believe every single community needs.
It's the one thing that instantaneously reduces your waste because
you are able to use your containers, use your vessels
that you already have at home, and then you don't
have to throw things away or even put them in
the recycle bin.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
I think we need more stores like this, and we
need more people like you who think that, Laura, I
mean that sincerely. I think you're fantastic and this whole
idea of the store. We all should be paying attention
to this, and I hope that the big big box
clothing stores and grocery stores that you are surrounded by
at Heartland Town Center.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
I hope they're taking note of all of this.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Is there anything else you wanted to get out there
while we still have you on the line right now
that we haven't mentioned yet, any other people you want
to mention, or something else in the store that you
want to talk about, or the brand.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Itself, you know what. I am just so excited to
be in this new location and just really excited to
be able to share it with so many new people.
I'm very excited to have new community members coming out
and you know, not only learning about the brand, of course,
we want them to come and learn about us, but
also to just really join us on this journey towards

(20:51):
making our environment healthier.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Well said, and I can't wait to meet you on
Saturday and the whole staff are going to have a
great day, be a super super launch. And congratulations again
on the kind Matter company.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
This is a big deal.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
I'll be out there Saturday from noon until for broadcasting
with Saga nine sixty am, and we'll be talking to
staff and saying hello to people coming in the store
and such, and we hope you'll come by and see us.
And remember, if you want to win that one hundred
dollars gift certificate, all you have to do is email
the answer to this question to info at SAGA nine
sixty am dot c A. The question is where is

(21:30):
the flagship kind Matter Company store opening this week and
this weekend? Where Not the exact address necessarily, although that
would certainly count if you put that in there at
fifty nine eighty five ro Dayo Drive, but the general
area fifty nine eighty five ro Dayo Drive at Unit four.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
And we look forward to seeing you then.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Thank you so much for this, and congratulations Laura, Thanks very.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Much, thank you so much for having me. I appreciate it, pleasure.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
We're going to see you on Saturday. I'm Norm Murray.
