(00:00):
Do you think it's more important topray that at the beginning of your day
or at the end before you ordo you do it matters? Yes?

(00:36):
All right, well let's pray.Okay, Dear Heavenly Father, we thank
you for allowing us to be here, Lord, with the many struggles that
we have face to actually be here. Lord, we just pray that you
give us utterance, wisdom, knowledgeand understanding of your word, and help
us to articulate and explain your truthLord to all of our audience whoever may

(00:58):
hear this podcast, Lord, nomatter where they are in the in this
world. Lauren, we just thankyou so much again for the honor of
being here and having this platform, and we seek to glorify you always with
the platform you have given us,Lord, and we pray all these things
in Jesus name. Amen. Amen, all right, Valencia, this is
a hot topic, an important oneimportant. Why do you think this is

(01:23):
such a important and hot topic.Well, I think it's important for every
Christian to, you know, haveprayers. You know, it's how we
communicate with God. So and Ithink it's just a hot topic because a
lot of people struggle with it,like how to pray and all that.
So I just think it's one ofthose that is probably one of the most

(01:46):
important, and that is one ofthe hardest. That's true, the hardest.
I'm glad you said that too, because we were just talking offline just
that quick, how difficult prayer is. I was thinking about it when we
we were going to do this.I'm like, man, I don't know,
because I was going to ask youto switch this top and I ain't
going to. Let's get into it. I think it's importing that for those

(02:09):
who maybe not don't know what prayeris, or maybe are children for the
first time new Christians. So whatis prayer? I think, in a
nutshell, prayer is not only justcommunicating, because you know how we heard
like growing up, you know, prayers just talking to God. I think
it's a little bit more deeper thanyeah, talking like a friend. I

(02:30):
think I think it's a little deeper. I think prayer is communicating and talking
with God, but his word andhis promises. Because then the question bags
with what am I praying for?You know what I mean? And I
think that if God chose this meansto communicate for humans to communicate with him,
then it has to be deeper thanjust talking to him, you know
what I mean. So I believeprayer is communicating with God and holding him

(02:53):
to his promises. Yeah, Idefinitely agree with that, and I want
to talked a little bit about that. Impact for me is peace I think
when you pray, because you know, one of my favorite verses you know
is Philippians for six seven yea andit talks about that piece to God.
And it's true because I think thatverse highlights, you know, giving things

(03:15):
to God. You know, youwhen you're thinking him and you're putting all
the focus on him, so ittakes away from maybe what problems that you're
going through because now you're so muchyou could thank you for it, just
wake it up, you know. And then also it focuses on you know,
your whatever you're going through. Youcan bring any requests to him like
nothing too big, nothing too small, and he's, you know, he's

(03:39):
going to help you. Either he'sgoing to help you through it, comfort
you through it, or he's youknow, she could fix the problem.
And I think that's why the peacesurpasses said to passes all understanding. It's
different than the world's peace because youknow, I can go to you.
It could go to anyone and theycould listen, be a great listener,
maybe you'll give you some great advice, but you don't have that confidence that

(04:00):
they can fix the problem, right, you know. So really is not
a peace because you're still thinking aboutit, like you might have got off
your chest, but you don't haveconfidence and faith that they're able to fix
it. And I think that's thedifference with God, because you know,
when you give all, let itgo, give it all to him.
You can sleep knowing that you knowHe's going to help me, or he's
going to come for me, orhe's gonna you know, He's gonna be

(04:21):
thereout this issue. That's true. And I love our seemingly different perspectives on
it, but it always connects. And when you were sitting there talking about
how peace and what prayer does whenyou go before God and how that gives
you this confidence that you need andLord knows all that is absolutely true,
and I was sitting there thinking, why is it that you leave with confidence

(04:44):
in prayer because of the promises thatGod made you? You trust in him,
you know what I mean? Andoftentimes when we go to God ask
for that peace or or man look, we've fallen on our face and asking,
like, Lord, help me,why are we going to we go
to the people we trust, rightright, but why do we just fall
on our face before God and leaveit there? Could we trust him and

(05:08):
we could be believe in what hesays, like the peace that passes all
understanding. He promised never to leaveus nor forsake us. That gives me
a tremendous peace. Okay, confidenceyou know the fact that he died and
rose again and that he's coming againfor his church and then he's gonna put
into a whole sin. That givesme confidence. That weeping made indore for

(05:29):
a night, but joy comes inthe morning. It's nice knowing that,
you know, you have to wane. Like like you said, a friend
definitely is interested and wants to hearwhat you say. But God is he's
interested once here what we say,and he also wants to fix it or
help us, you know, helpus through it. You know, you
could give it all, everything that'sgoing on with you, and you know
he's going to help you out. He's going to comfort you. What kind

(05:50):
of struggles kind of Oh yeah,so I did think about one in particular,
not Understanding what prayer is has beenmy personal struggle for me. I
know we are supposed to do it, so that's where my little Christianese,
my little moment comes in. Butmy struggle has been not understanding what prayer

(06:12):
is. Uh. It's kind ofstrange because being a preacher's kid, you
would think so I always communicated withGod, that was no problem I did.
For some reason, it just neverclicked, you know what I mean.
It just I don't understand. Butanyway, I have to go back.
Let's because I don't know if there'ssome new new crisis that can relate.
But mine was like how how youknow now they're bread because you know,

(06:36):
you see people on TV and stuffand they have those big words and
prayers like I could be intimidating whenyou first start out, Like how do
I get there? Like when Iprayer it goes sound like that. No,
And that was like a struggle fora while. And I remember hearing
a sermon and the pastor who wassaying how he struggles he still struggles with

(06:58):
prayer. But you know, Godwants to hear you. Keep you keep
telling. I'm like, okay,you're a pastor. I think I talked
to you about it. And Ithink one time after I was serving,
we all got together and you know, the late leader prayed for us and
she was fumbling over her words andstuff, and I'm like, after done,
nobody said anything. Nobody looked ather illustrated, like, oh,

(07:21):
that wasn't a perfect prayer. Andit kind of gave you some more confimation
that it doesn't have to be perfect, that you know, God just wants
you to to do it, topray and to communicate with him. So
that kind of was, you know, an eye opener for me and gave
me a little bit more confidence thatjust to keep keep praying, that have

(07:41):
to be perfect and stuff the wrongwith that. So that was one of
one of mine was just how howto pray? I remember you remember this
when Michelle she brought one of theother coworkers to us and were you there?
I prayed at it. I thinkI was in the back or something
here. Okay, now me whatpeople won't believe it or not. I'm
very shy. I am having halfintrovert extrovert don't believe it. Yeah,

(08:07):
I just kind of I just gofor it, you know what I mean,
which is probably why a lot ofpeople don't notice that. How you
gonna be my first seven years don'teven know anyway, I'm very nervous,
but you don't bring it like I'mover here stocking the shelves and here we
go. I end up praying forthe person. But one thing I do,
especially when I put on the spotlike that or something like really happens
that I'm not prepared for, Isay internal prayer, Holy Spirit, please

(08:30):
help me, you know, tohave the words to say D D ten
times out of ten the Holy spiritsthey are helping. And that that's definitely
a struggle for me, being anexpert is prayative public, Like I pray
all the time, so I havesilent prayers out there talk to God to
her, but like actually being onthe spot and praying for so it out.
I kind of nervous about that. It's like I don't have that confidence

(08:50):
that you know, I'm gonna saythe things and stuff like that. But
I get put on the spot likesometimes I stumble and stuff. So I
still have it, yet I'm stillnot there as as in public, but
I'm sure if I really had to, you know it. So in comparison
to silent prayers and vocal verbal prayers. Do you feel like it needs to

(09:16):
be even like you need to doas many silent as you know, vocal
or you think it does matter.I don't know that. I actually don't
don't know about that because I thinkthat for me it works the same.
So I don't know if maybe weshould do more vocal than so, I
don't know. I don't think itmatters, to be perfectly honest, I

(09:37):
think we need to be ready inseason on a season, and I think
again, I think there's a timeand a place, like somebody comes to
you, can you please pray forme? And they know you're debout Christian
by all means, you know, because they can't hear your silent prayers.
I think like it for like yousaid, you want to show everybody,
hey, I you know I dothe scriptures or I could do that,
you know, basically boasted that thattype of stuff, like like there's some

(09:58):
people are gonna think like, wow, he must really really be, you
know, following what God says andstuff. So it's a big letd wow.
They are not even you know, doing what the right I didn't.
I did not understand nothing like theBible has not became real to me.
Uh, this is before the Genesisone revelation tree that I told you about.

(10:18):
So before then, I was justvery confused. I'm just doing things
just to do him because I knewto do him as a Christian. I
had like no real connection to anythingreally with God. And I remember I
was listening to Miles mon Realm. It's some other people I can't remember,
but they always thought on prayer beingyou know, like going around declaring decreeing

(10:41):
that God is gonna cover your finances, cover your house, cover your ministry,
your family. Yeah, just declaringpeace in your home and stuff like,
which I don't think is necessarily abad thing, but it was a
big hocus pocasy, and I've triedthat for years. I don't know,
I don't think did anything, tobe perfectly honest. So you know,

(11:03):
when we talk about the definition andthe struggles we're praying, it does kind
of go what you're saying, likehow to pray, because you know,
we have teachers teach us so manydifferent things on how to you know,
do that. I'll I hear certainpeople like just listening to like christ radio
stuff where they say we're you know, just where your struggles just to keep
praying, you know, pray, you know, pray without season, keep

(11:24):
doing keep doing it. And alsoto like, you know, just you
know, it doesn't have to bea whole long prayer too, like you
could just like God, I needhelp. Like so we're saying, like
it doesn't have to be like someelaborate prayer because God, God hears you.
He already you know, knows whatyou want anyway, So I agree
with that. He just wants badcommunications. Yep. Even not knowing how

(11:50):
to pray, we knew to pray, and so that part kind of came
activated. But you know, ifnothing else, we want every viewer after
this podcast to understand at least theelements in in the how of prayer,
in the why, because it's important. We can't be just just praying for
houses and cars and stuff and thenGod's going into that stuff. And I

(12:13):
get it too, because sometimes, like you said, you don't want you
don't want to pray. It's asbad as it sounds like. It's the
truth. The truth. That's thelast thing I want to Like, you
know, that's what you got.You have to do, like people tell
you, pray, pray like youknow that, but you know, you
know you want an immediate response, you know what to just pray or whatever
and whatever. All you know youdon't really feel feel like it. That's

(12:41):
the truth. You gotta be honest, especially you know you're you're wrong.
That wasn't the right thing, somethinglike that. Oh yeah, that's over
if you know you gotta that's notthey gotta, uh you have that that
sin you don't want to have unconfessed, especially if you you know you did
something wrong earlier. Because it's crazy, because don't we already feel the guilt

(13:09):
we or we know so much aboutGod that you know he gonna come forget.
It's like a media like yeah Idoubt, yeah, but right now
I ain't there and I ain't tryingto even confess it right now. I
want to ask you about doubts andunanswered prayers at being a struggle for some
people. Do you believe that couldbe? Yeah, definitely, I think

(13:31):
if you're doubting, I don't knowwhat you're like your salvation If you're doubting,
just like when you come before Godand you want to pray for something,
but and you do ask him forsomething, but there's a part of
you believe that, don't. Idon't know what that feels like to be
so I have to put myself insomebody else's shoes. But when you go
before the Lord and ask for likeI don't know the health and strength of

(13:52):
a loved one, but there's likea little doubt. Yeah, that that
kind of what I was talking aboutbefore that guy defeats the purpose because you're
not going to get that piece then, because you to have the peace,
you have to believe trust coff, have faith that God can do it what
you're asking. And you know, even if it's something like he's out of
the I don't know, out ofthe ordinary, like you believe like God

(14:16):
could do it. God could doanything. So you have to believe that
or you're not going to get thatpiece. You're still it's no sense of
going to God at that point.I think I agree, Like you said,
what is the point? Yeah, like I can just talk to anybody.
At that point, it asked, tell live my life if you know,
because you go to God because youbelieve he can fix it, you
know. So kind of like halfwaythrough when I was asking that question,

(14:39):
I'm like, I don't know howwhat that feels like, if I don't
believe God's going to answer it,I'm not going to him at all.
I'll just figure it out on myend. But that never has happened while
to go to him. But webelieve in God, so like there's that
trust is already established. Yeah,I definitely whatever I pray. I know
you know that no one believed thathe was gonna you know, he's going

(15:03):
to fix it. It might notbe what I want or what I want,
but he's he's behind the scenes. We're, you know, working it
out. So all right, SoI was looking up somewhere. I don't
lost it now, honey. Soanother struggle and hindrance that is listed is
lack of focus and distractions with prayer. I know I can relate to this,

(15:26):
like when you talk about I'm thinkingabout it's this. I've done that
before, when you start off prayingand then all of a start off thinking
about who I want to do latertoday. So I was like, oh,
I'm sorry, I forgot your dad. That's the truth going for a
while before that happens, happens tobe or if you know, let's say
I'm laying down praying, so thenyou get a dentification of the phone,

(15:50):
searching and shoot, so you haveto be in a position where phones going
to like, because it could definitelybe easy distractions. Like, but I've
done that a couple of times.I had to definitely tell guys, sorry,

(16:10):
just be off. I remember, like, because I started off all
good and stuff and that I'm thinkingabout this other stuff I got later today
and work and stuff like, ohyeah, And it's funny, like we
don't really get distracted with anything elsebut prayer. It's crazy. So I

(16:33):
was looking at first Peter five eight. It said be sober, be vigilant,
because your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion,
seeking whom he made devour. Godcalled us to be sober and vigilant,
be diligent and vigilant in the sametime. And the interesting part about this
is that the devil walks about likea roaring lion. He's not he's not

(16:56):
going in secret. He's roaring ashe's coming to you, as he's approaching
you. So I feel like becauseof that, we should be all the
more diligent, you know, inour prayer and try to focus, you
know what I mean, Like yousaid, put that phone, put the
phone away, put it on silent, and then put it away. The
dings are digging. What about thelaye for prayer? Do you believe that

(17:18):
there should be a certain amount oftime that you should spend in prayer?
No, not at all, because, like you said, you pray throughout
the day and in silence or whatever. My prayers could be like Lord,
help please, and he answers it. So no, I don't. I
don't think there should be a certainlene if you ask me. I worry

(17:41):
about people that do pray lengthy prayersbecause at that point now you're doing what
God or Jesus said not to do, with the long, long winded prayers,
with the vain repetitions and the bigword unnecessary words, just to pray.
And I got another question, Well, I guess you're going to go
into that, didn't I say,no? But that's gonna ask you,
like you know, he gives youthe way to prayer, So should you

(18:04):
hit well, should you hit allof those in one prayer? No?
Okay, And I'm glad you broughtthat up. I think that the Lord's
prayer is a model an example, not necessarily like a shrict guideline so establishing
a solid prayer foundation Matthew six's ninethrough thirteen. In this manner, therefore,

(18:30):
pray our Father in heaven. Howit be your name, your Kingdom.
Come, Your will be done onearth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as
we forgive our debtors. And donot lead us into temptation, but deliver
us from the evil one, foryours is the kingdom and the power and
the glory forever. Amen. SoJesus starts out with so, in this

(18:53):
manner, therefore, prayer our Fatherin Heaven. I feel like we are
addressing God, our Father who's inheaven. I think this is very foundational,
very important because we have prayer isnot exclusive to Christianity. Hindu countries
pray, Muslim countries pray. Youknow, they pray. God knows how
many times today. Actually have anew coworker Musland who she's she dips out

(19:15):
a couple of minutes to go andrun and pray or whatever. Right,
And how do you feel about that? Before I even continue, I was
thinking about that. Once you go, I'm like, it makes it to
me seem like it's it's more ofan obligation more than you're going to go
talk to like your friend, likeI have to go pray. I have
to go through this. And Ithink what difference with you know, our

(19:36):
God, is that you know youdo it because you want to, because
you love it and stuff like youdon't have to let me go pray now,
let me go, you know, let me hit this time. So
that I always thinking that every timeI see her to get up, because
she gets talk multiple times a dayto go, I guess pray right.
And I'm glad you said that becauseI feel like when it becomes like that,
anything we do in this walk withthe Lord, if it becomes a

(19:57):
legalistic thing, the joy and thefun of serving God, it's truly zapped
out of there is evaporated. It'sgone. And God in calls that.
I don't feel like he called usinto a walk that's like that of a
robot, you know what I mean. He wants us to love him and
love him freely and completely because heloves us anyway. I'm glad you actually

(20:19):
shared that because that is a reallybig because us all like this the obedience,
yes, I said, would beno need of this entire book to
be perfectly honest. So, yeah, I think our father in heaven,
who we are addressing, is reallyreally important because we all don't share the
same God. How would be yourname? So when we are addressing God,
we make his name holy. Weseparate him from all the other lower

(20:41):
case g gods like you're saying,so we're extolling him. In the same
instance, verse Tennis says, yourkingdom come, your will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. We should be praying for the Kingdom of
God to come and his will tobe done, because we live in a
fallen world, you know. Andhis kingdom is the kingdom of peace,

(21:02):
rule and reign. He's the sovereignGod. We hollow his name because he's
unlike anybody else. Gents, chapterfour twenty six, we see the first
people calling on the name of theLord. Up until now. You remember,
Adam and Eve had a direct relationshipwith God, and because they sin,
it broke that relationship because of thesin. So we had the genealogy

(21:25):
at the Caine kills. Abel inchapter four outlines all the children came came
from Cain, and then we haveAdam and Eve having another son Seth.
When Seth was born, it saysin verse twenty six, then men began
to call on the name of theLord. This can be very debatable,
but in essence, men began topray and seek God. You know what

(21:45):
I mean for answers, and whybecause they have now understood the weight of
their sin. They got the firstmurder. They now see truly the consequence
of sin, the weight of sin, and undoubtedly because of that they also
see that they cannot say themselves. So to pray for God's kingdom to come
and his will to be done isto pray that He intervenes on this earth.

(22:06):
And it keeps his promise that hemade to Eve in the garden where
he said, your seed, hewould bruise his heel, but he would
crush his head. And that,Jesus Christ, is the promise to all
of our struggles as regard to sin, because of course he's our savior.
So to pray again his kingdom come, his will be done on earth as
in heaven, is to pray forGod's will, his promise to come to

(22:27):
pass. And that's where my definitionfor prayer comes. Communicating with God and
reminding him of his promises, andwe see from Genesis all the way to
Revelation, but especially an old Testamentthat has been the model prayer. We
see that with David, he's inthe cave, run from Saul, praying
that, you know, prayer thatGod will not only intervene and give him

(22:51):
the peace and stuff, but peacefound in his word and his promise that
he's going to be king. BecauseGod already said that he's going to be
king. He anointed him through Samuel. Look how many years it took,
you know what I mean until heactually sat on the throne. So he
had a hold to that promise andhe prayed, prayed back the promise.
We see that in me and Maya. So I believe that as well.

(23:11):
Then give us this day our dailybread. People like to say that's either
the Word of God our daily breador you know, physical sustenance. I
don't care what it is, physicalor spiritual. We need God's daily bread
regardless, and I believe that teachesus to rely on Him daily and forgive
us of our debts. As wefigure our debtors. We are in debt
to God first and foremost because ofsin, So we are constantly in need

(23:36):
of asking God to forgive us becausewe guess what we sin every day frequently
throughout the day at that and sowe need to ask God continuously to forgive
us, and as we forgive otherpeople, because in light of what anyone
does against us, how they transgressus, how they violate us. Man,
we violated God's divine order. Yes, so we're always in constant need

(23:59):
of his forgiveness. And that's whywe got to touch started with Uncle Fessor
said, that's why you should definitelyit before we go on. Like,
let's say you do have Uncnfessor andyou prayed, you what happened? What's
the impact of that if you're youknow, you've said you don't you haven't
confessed that said, but you're stillprayer. Will those prayers be answered?

(24:19):
I like to think no, atleast not right now. I believe that
God checks us either at that momentor he'll check us later. So we'll
get it together and then't pray again, you know what I mean? But
I think Jesus does outline said, look, if you hold anything against your
brother or something, you go handlethat didn't come to me I'm paraphrasing,
but also he shares a story abouthow there was a beggar that owed someone

(24:44):
that's prominent. I don't know ifit was a king or governor or something,
and he begging pleader for the governorto forgive him of his dead and
stuffy, and the governor did,or the ruler did. And then somebody
owed the beggar, and he dealtwith that person hard, like, man,
you're gonna pay my money, AndJesus is start contrast, rebuked that

(25:06):
as a thing to do, becausewhy you owe this person that had the
power to destroy you, But yetyou can't forgive somebody that, you know
what I mean, that owed you? Like you should ad the abundance of
God's love for us. We shouldlove others at the abundance of all that
He's done. We should seek todo that blessed one else. So I
think by that standard, no,I don't see God answering prayers. If

(25:30):
you're holding something against somebody else,If you don't forgive somebody, why are
you going to have the gall tofrom and don't lead us into temptations,
but delivers from evil. In theBook of James, it says that God
does not tempt us, nor canbe tempted. So God does not use
temptation as an instrument against us,but he allows that to happen. He

(25:52):
allows trials to happen. That way, that's gonna grow us. It's gonna
make us more like Jesus Christ, which be to God. It's all gonna
give him glory anyway. But yes, yeah, and job is a great
story that that really pictures. Ibelieve verse thirteen about you know, timptations.
Because he was a righteous man andhe endure for free. We gotta

(26:18):
go before God ask for forgiveness, and we need to ask him to protect
us as we go through these trialsbecause those who desire to live God,
he will suffer persecution. We're gonnago through some stuff and the Bible says
that he will not allow us tobe tempted beyond what we can handle.
And that's the promise. Again,it kind of goes back the promise.
So whatever we go through with temptations, with trials, with needing forgiveness,

(26:41):
with asking for his gospel message tocome forward, for his kingdom to come
and will be done, we needJesus Christ. We need him to come
over here with this, with hispower, his shred. We need a
gospel to advance here. We needto seek God and we need to hold
to his promises that He's made fromGenesis all the way to Revelation. Check

Thank you so much for your support. I also do think to like
you know how guilty where you justgo and ask you just think about yourself.

(29:14):
For prayer, where you're just prayingfor you and everything you're going through
a winner's you know, you couldpray for someone else to Yeah, you
know what though, I think thatis probably another key component to prayer.
I really feel like it shouldn't reallybe about us, even though they could
listen. We're in a struggle bustoo. But one thing we all have
in common is is sin. It'ssin, and I think everything that we

(29:38):
struggle with is the result of it. So, but like you said,
you know, I don't think asfor finance financial help is a bad thing
either. Yeah, I don't thinkthat like pray it for a car or
prayer for but that type of stuff. I'm thinking more like you can pray
for like a finance charge ship, but more like pray to help your family,
you know, I guess make athrower or whatever like that, and

(30:00):
that's asking all that, but it'snot really like, hey, we need
buddy, you know. You knowwhat. And I'm a big believer because
I believe in blessings are not justfor us, they should be for other
people as well. And but Ipray that God would help me to be
able to get my breakaway from myparents, get my own car, and
I will I would bless him.He answered that that had nothing to do

(30:21):
with what Jesus talked about in there, But it's for the glorifying of God.
If you are praying selfish prayers likeyou mentioned, how's that glorifying God?
Where is the glory in it?And I don't think God bargains with
us, so to speak. Iknow I didn't get no car because God's
like, who she bargained with me? You know, She's gonna glorify me,
And that's the quid pro quote.No, I don't think that's the
case. But I think it's God'swill for me to have had that car

(30:45):
to break away. But also heknew how that's going to impact other people.
And it's also something I got throughit too, because you know,
let's say something that's prevalent like drugabuses. I'm sure somebody always has has
a family member thats either addicted tosomething or whether it be alcohol, drugs.
But you can you can pray foryour family, but you also got

(31:06):
to realize that there's other people outthere absolutely as well, So you can
do that all in one big prayer. You know, pray for whoever it
is in your family and everyone that'sgoing through this. You know. Can
you provide some insights on establishing aprayer foundation, I mean it kind of
depends on like what works for you. I know for me, maybe you

(31:26):
know you're in a noisy household orpeople are up, so you got to
find out when's the the best timefor you to prayer. Sometimes that might
mean getting up earlier than where youup to tech week. Sometimes it's on
my ride to work, you know, but I definitely think that you can't,
you know, start your day withit. So I think that's first

(31:47):
you gotta find like a schedule thatworks for you when you're gonna pray.
What do you feel like when peoplesay you got to give God your best
time. Do you feel like Godrequires your best time or do you feel
like God just requires anytime? Ido think he requires any time. I
think that might mean more like, don't do it as like an obligage,
just like a second. He'll letme go ahead and get this. But

(32:10):
I feel like if you're really goingbecause God goes right, if you're going
to him fully, you know, because you want to give God, you
want to communicate with him, andyou want to you know, then I
think that's that's more what it's whatit's saying. You know. I often
feel guilty because I don't run toGod until I have a problem. And
I think a lot of us dothat, but I do want to have

(32:31):
that. I can't wait to gopray. I can't wait to go before
his face. I can't wait forhim to talk to me and I talk
to him. I can't and youknow, and that only happens unfortunately.
I spend a considerable amount of timeawait from him, and and that's that's
problematic. I'm not gonna sitand lie. So I wish that there was an
urgency and anxiousness inside of me,like I cannot wait. You know,

(32:52):
you don't when things are going well. You know, there's I thought that
well, you know, it's okayif you miss a day of prayer because
it was a good thing anyway, you know, ex exactly struggle you're like,
oh yeah you remember, Yeah,God, it's easy to forget that

(33:13):
you're having that good day because ofhim. You know, like, say
something you're praying for and it happens, Do you do that? Remember the
praise the person? Sometimes I well, you know, I'm happy, you
know, thank you, like beforeI go to anyone else, and shared
is good news. I think theone that that provided it. You know,

(33:37):
if you complain a lot, youbetter praise a lot. Okay,
I really do, because God cantake care of all of that. And
I believe that when it comes tothe scale, got at least at least
be even. I think he definitelyshould getting more praise than complaints. But
that just me, And I don'tthink you should not go to Like let's
say you have a friend, butI just don't think you should go to
them first. You should go todefinitely go to God and tell him probably

(33:59):
and you know, because she's theone to to solve it. Yeah,
but I don't think there's anything wrongwith going to a friend of telling what
you what you're going through. Ijust think that should be your first You
know, when you first gave yourheart to the Lord, I kind of
played God a lot because you wouldcome to me. I don't know nothing
about you going to the Lord.I believe you have. I'm not saying

(34:20):
that. I'm saying from my perspectivethat I played God. I got exhausted
because I'm like, I don't haveall the answers. I know how I
did it. It might not workfor you. I can tell you how
I did it, and that's whyI'm gonna leave it at But a lot
of times I feel like I hadto point you to God, which is
the best thing to do, becausehe has all the answers. Well,
I'm gonna tell you I've been letboth of them down the road. So

(34:47):
yeah, I believe in there's atime and a place in a space to
be able to talk with other people. But as Christians, whether we know
the answer or not, we shouldalways point the person. After this podcast
episode, they gonna get pointed inJesus Christ and his word okay, because
don't take our word for it.Right here, he literally said everything he

(35:07):
gonna say, ain't nothing new,And I did that. The reason why
people go to the people first isbecause they want the obed answer or just
what the bat you know, don'tknow that you could do all that to
God, like yeah, you know, God might not give us no no,
And then the God I know ain'tvery pans But so I do want

(35:29):
to share some tips that I've done. In twenty twenty three, I created
a like a little prayer space inmy room. I got like two pushpin
boards or whatever you call it,and I write down the prayers, my
intentions and all that stuff. Ihad that on theirs because a lot of
times when I pray, I getdistracted. So just sitting there and looking

(35:49):
at the board, I'm like,oh Lord, yes, I need you
know, let me pray that scripturereal quick because I need it or I
mean it, or you are youknow what I mean? Because Him is
good. Sorry, let's stop withthe praise break. God is good,
all right? So you So that'sone of the things I've done prayer journal.
Sometimes when that thing is so deep, we can't articulate it. When

(36:14):
there's a lot of things going onup here and it ain't coming out here,
and so I often write sometimes myprayer down too, because that helped
me least kind of release some thingson my mind to be able to actually
verbalize it. I feel like Iget tired of me because I didn't be
talking everything. So okay, Igotta get it out, you know,

(36:38):
not spell on the beans man.Once I do that, man, because
sometimes you be restless at night,so thought the guy. And then once
I do that, I'll be ableto see. You know, I am
in that actually because like you saidearlier, he gives you that peace when
you sleep, sleep sleep. Whatdo you think about? Like maybe you

(37:01):
know how people have a tip likehaving like a jarer where you have names,
so think about and pray for aperson. I've heard somebody do that.
I've never done it myself. IfI'm gonna be honest, I love
that idea. I love that. Can I do it now? To be
honest, I'm not even gonna thinkabout picking you know what I mean one

(37:22):
by one, like I'm gonna starta group of things together and that's not
right, you know what I'm saying. You know, I don't think he's
not gonna help help you know, the people that are struggling in our family
or friends or whatever. If wedon't pray, don't because we yeah,
we're not the only ones to prayfor right exactly? They ride on set
up many they would be your trouble. This you, that's a horrible b

(37:52):
So you have, like any tipsthat you can give our viewers and listeners
to help them, you know, advanced their prayer life, establish a good
prayer foundation. Well, if youhaven't started, I will definitely say say
sorry, But yeah, I definitelyjust thinks establishing a tie that works for
you or this. I don't thinkyou should start your day without it,

(38:15):
definitely without prayer whatever that is.Like, I know overnight might be different.
You know, I pray for youwhen you get up to get ready
to go for work. But thisevery day, just start I guess it
starts small. Yeah, just keepthrowing it. It don't have to be
like I don't even think I hasto be multiple times a day, but
at least get something out. Iagree. I agree. You know we

(38:37):
didn't touch on this either, prayingwhen before you read the Bible too already
told you earlier. I pray beforeI pray. If I gotta pray for
somebody else. But also pray beforeyou read the Bible. And I don't
know anywhere in the Bible says that, but it's been, in my experience,
been really good practice to do so, because you're relying on the Holy
Spirit to reveal you know God's wordto you, and none of us know

(39:00):
everything, and certainly none of usknow the mysteries found in God's words without
you know God himself. So topray and ask for the Holy Spirit to
lead and guide you before reading hisword, I believe it's powerful. And
I believe as far as reading andgaining revelation, that is one of the
keys I don't know, one ofthe keys to to a good prayer life

(39:22):
as far as reading the word, like maybe writing to down like if for
one like me and the maybe isit so vocal or what? Maybe write
those prayers out to help you toguide you on it. Or maybe I
know there's like prayer journals stuff likethat, if you do that type of
stuff, and that might that mighthelp. I like a good prayer journal.

(39:46):
I like it a good way, even like the I guess the scripture
or something that that's all your heart, write that, ye write that I
don't know, you know that actuallyis effective. I I when we were
in the office. Oftentimes when Ido my like Bible study or Bible reading
in the morning, I see averse, I'm writing it down and now
put on my little sticky note inmy back pocket. And that's what I

(40:07):
you know, think about and praythroughout the day. So you know,
the Book of Psalms is like areally great book on prayers too. And
one thing I like about that, like especially David, he always made his
complaint known to God, but healways trusted in God, and that prayer
always ended with his confidence being stillin God. I get a lot of

(40:27):
my encouragement from you know that book. I love songs. I like even
if if you can't think of nothing, nothing hurts, thank you God,
praising you know for just get youto work or wake you up or whatever.
You could do that throughout today. So yep, and that's a good
point too. I believe there's differenttypes of how we pray or Philippians by

(40:50):
prayer, supplication with thanksgiving, makeyour request known to God. We got
what supplication first? Yeah, thatI do it justice by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving, didn't make your requestknown or petitions be known to God.
You know, there's always should bethe inclusion of thanksgiving. What's the next

(41:16):
verse after that? Peace in thepeace of God. That depends on what
I'm saying. Regard your hearts andmind. You know you do that,
and you know you get the peace. I don't think any prayer should be
without thanksgiving, praising God. Thatis a good point. Someone was saying,
I don't I forget that you should. You should thank God ahead of

(41:37):
time too, like that for answeringthe prayer after after it. So that's
faith and the confidence that you havethat you know that you still take care
of it. So I like that. I also heard somebody say you should
pray for yourself last, and Iput that out the practice a couple of
good times. I didn't want topray for myself all that because once I've

(42:00):
seen all these problems that people arefacing in the world, minds seemed very
small. And God, you saidYou're gonna supply my needs according to your
riches, the glory about Christ Jesus. So what do I need to pray
for? You already know what Ineed before I ask them. So what's
up? They need help? Ineed help too. I'm looped in there
with that prayer. But I don'tneed to pray for myself specifically, you
know what I mean? Like Ishouldn't have to over here. I need

(42:21):
a little special prayer time. Well, I could ask God, that's not
really important. Do you think thatyou should pray? Do you think it's
more important to pray that at thebeginning of your day or at the end
before you or do you to getmatters? Yes, beginning and end,
because like you said, you never, like you said, never should start

(42:43):
your day without praying. You couldbe still be in the bed as soon
as you wake up, Lord, thank you wake me up. I don't
get out of If I get outof bed, I'm walking and thinking God,
because that is a blessing where Igo to bed now if I don't
fall asleep, Lord, thank youfor this day. You know. Blah
blahlah blah blah. Man, yougotta have the beginning. And again,

(43:06):
I'm sorry, I don't see howyou can really start or injuredy without God
and praying. I don't. Thatdon't sound right to me. I agree
with that, I definitely think becauseyou don't know what what trouble's gonna come
your day. What you have astory. So I definitely think that that
prayer helps start your day and ithelps. But also if you notice,

(43:27):
like if you you know, youdo start your day off with that prayer,
it helps you with those childes definitelycome because you're more you're not as
maybe short tempered as you would be. That prayer everything kind of annoys you.
And if you get the prayer outthere, you know, and you
know, I can affirm that becausemost recently, you know, I started
my day with prayer. It wasa good old time with the Lord.

(43:52):
I go to work, I hadto see all my co workers and you
know one in particular, Vex ismy absolute spirit from the back to the
front of my spirit, and Iwas able. It was very nasty.
I was really able to compose myself. So there is strength and power and
you know, starting your day becauselike you said, you don't know what
the world your day is gonna behold. And that's one thing I too.

(44:15):
I pray in the morning too.Lord you know what's gonna happen. I
do not, but I'm trusting youto guide me because listen, we're all
gonna face some stuff. I ratherface with him. So Lord, you
please, you won't have to guideme. I'm you're gonna gide me.
That means I'm behind you. Thatmeans I'm gonna follow you. That when
I'm gonna be consistent, I ain'tjumping ahead of you. This is what
it is. Be my guide, and I'm gonna I promise you that I

(44:35):
will, you know, honor youwith this entire day, no matter what
comes. I just need your strengthto do it. I need your grace,
I need your unmarried favorite. Youknow I'm gonna mess up, you
know what I mean. I needyour forgiveness, I need your mercy.
I'm not gonna rely on my owntrip. I'm gonna rely on yours.
So that's what he get you tolike. And I know, listener to
myst your music. If I listento that, to that that helps because

(45:00):
and man to be going by fastas the scientists go. And then you
know him by cowork superes over botheringme. Just answer and let him go
on his business. And they don'trob you nothing, nothing's being taken away
from you. And be in myown little world of times they become over
there and say every day okay, yeah, and you know what, I

(45:22):
believe that every Christian should definitely bepraying, whatever time of day it is,
for God's mercy, his forgiveness andhis grace. You know, God
taught me when I worked out ameridathat marithalth sorry about his grace because you
know, oftentimes we're humans. Wetry to do things our own way.
That's not gonna un force, itain't gonna change. But he really taught

(45:44):
me, like, man, lookI have grace here. I saw.
In fact, I woke up outof bed because I did not want to
go. I am not want towork, okay, and I work from
home. So that, babe,I just soul like like a piggy bank,
like two piggy banks, grace andmercy right there. I mean,
I'm still covered up. I'm like, okay, every day he told me,

(46:09):
every day you leave this full graceis my favor on you to get
through the day. You choose everyday, but you don't, you don't
get my grace. You don't leaninto my favor for you, you know.
So I'm like, so every dayintentionally, Lord, I don't want
to work. I don't want todo nothing, even ministry without you know,

(46:30):
you're doing it for me quite frankly, I'm just here God. I
remember where I first started out too. Just think about where I was talking
about, you know, my prayersand I were seeing how, you know,
just prayer. I think it was. I don't know if I was
saying praying for a good day orso you were like, why not pray
for like for God to help youthrough rather it's a good or a bad
day, you know, because youknow, not every day is gonna be

(46:58):
a good something, but you mightneed that to help you whatever growth or
whatever he's trying to get. Yeah, you know, so help whatever rather
because it makes sense though, becausethe components are. You know, if
you pray for a good day, you're gonna be very disappointed when you have
a bad one. And like yousaid, the bad days are for your
growth and maturity and stuff, eventhough we don't appreciate it in the moment.

(47:19):
Ever, you know, when welook back, we wouldn't know what
good days were if it wasn't forthe bad days. So we can celebrate
both equally, knowing that in thegood days God's giving us rests and the
bad ones he's stretching us. Sothat is a that's a very beautiful picture.
God is so good man, Heis so what that one that ask
what about those that they prayed forstuff? But they're not getting you other

(47:44):
prayers or are not being any answers. So what would you say to those?
Well, you quoted it earlier, pray without ceasing. I've heard conflicting
preachers preach on when you have thoseunanswered prayers to keep praying, but also
her you don't have to keep askingGod for the same thing. I'm kind
of somewhere in between because I believebecause I've asked God multiple times for certain

(48:07):
things, it doesn't mean I don'ttrust him. Is that I'm very like
it's I got to pour out myselfand that's how to do it. But
I always in like like David,But I trust you God, I do.
I do so unanswered prayers, Iwould say, keep keep praying,
honestly, keep pouring yourself out toGod. He hears you, hear you

(48:30):
from the first moment. But sometimesyou gotta stay in prayer until you see
it come to until you see itcome to fruition. So I don't think.
But if it's an unanswered prayer aftera certain amount of time, it
might just be a nail. Iwas gonna say, it might not be.
It's not. Maybe it's not becauseyou decided to see what you're praying
for to the motives. Yep.And I think oftentimes that we get into

(48:53):
God's word and really know who Godis, We're gonna know what to pray
for and what not to pray for, you know what I mean, Like
I'm okay with some of his nose. I'm gonna kicking screen. Doesn't mean
like you know you're you're not praying, praying the right way, or like
oh there's any day wrong with youthis. It's more like maybe that's maybe
like you says enough, or maybeit just doesn't a line in God.

(49:15):
Yeah, maybe it's not. It'sa right not right now? Yeah,
absolutely, And that's one of thethings I'm like telling my mom, like
trying to remind her, I don'tbelieve it's a no. I might.
I believe it's not a right now, But you got to celebrate how far
God has brought you. He goesif this is where your life it will
come to pass, keep praying thatpromise to him it's going to happen,
and could not not be ready forit? Right because like if we got

(49:37):
everything we prayed for, the momentwe prayed for, we would be really
irresponsible with it. Like moving out, was I ready emotionally no, because
I would have still had a lotof lingering, hatred towards my father,
disdain for my parents, my siblings. And now I know that whenever he
does say move, I'm gonna begolden. That's the same thing like with

(49:59):
ministry, lot of the stuff thatyou know God would would have us.
Uh, I guess stuck if youwant to right for combicize because we were
right and you know, we justweren't ready or we're working on the right
track, so you had to youknow, to fring it back and then
you know it's been moving on fromthere, you know. Yea. So
that's a good point because this isnothing new, you know, And I

(50:22):
think I want to hear your opinionabout this. I think some of our
issue where God said that now becauseit's never really it might have been to
now. I think our motives werewrong more, we just had things all
mixed up. What do you think? Yeah, I can agree with that,
and then just wanting too many things. Maybe maybe that's that's coalong with

(50:43):
what because you know, you seeall the stuff. Yeah, I would
do that. I would do that, you know, but not everything aligned
with you know, what our missiondoes and what he called us. Because
there's a lot of gifts and alot of things that people are doing industry
to learned that. I like it, just not might be still right.
It's kind of like like David whenhe really had a heart to build the

(51:05):
temple for the Lord. He reallyhad that desire, but God said no,
not you, but your son,you know, but your child.
And I feel like whatever God didnot call me and you two do with
our hands in the gifts and talents, I believe through this ministry it's going
to happen. We might see thewhole vision, but it not might be
our hands on it to do it. And I believe I believe in the
big vision. You believe in thebig vision and mission. I welcome that.

(51:28):
However God's going to do it,I welcome that. So I agree
with you on that because there've beenplenty of times like we be on the
right track and to get confused. And what I love about the truth diaries,

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
