and so how great are you? How are you feeling
about having me on the show.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I feel awesome and I am excited to have you
this evening.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
I know where I met, we're about to experience a
winter storm, as they keep broadcasting. I'm in Mississippi, so
it's always a hit in the miss you know, it's
fifty to fifty.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Chances of that happening, but we are embracing for it.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
But I'm super excited to talk with you and to
go into your journey.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Okay, great, Well, I'm super excited to be here. I
truly am. And you know, and I want to share
with your audience about my book. It's it's a book
that starts out with a little girl who is you know,
she's afraid, afraid of the dark, and afraid to be
(05:23):
away from her mommy. She has the opportunity to live
with her grandma for a short while while her grandpa
is having a procedure, and the time away from her
mother is very scary for her. And so it is
at that moment in her life, she's four and a
(05:44):
half years old, and it's at that moment in in
her life that Jesus enters in and it's been a
journey walking with Jesus the entire time of her life.
And what I'd like to share is that you know,
the book is titled The Unexpected Journey, and really everyone's
(06:10):
life is an unexpected journey, you know, not just mine.
Everyone' says because we live in a world of uncertainty.
We don't have a crystal ball, and we don't know
what one day or the next is going to bring
for us, and so we we live in fear. And
all of us have our own little fears and insecurities. So,
(06:37):
you know, the world that we live in today brings
about a lot of fears. For one thing, We're fearful
of whether or not we're going to be able to
keep our home. We're fearful as to whether or not
we'll keep our job, if our finances will carry us
through uh, you know, through our retirement years. We're fearful
(06:58):
of our health, will we will we get a fatal illness,
and will we lose a loved one. We just were
constantly living in fear. And I think it's important for
people to know that as we travel through life in
our journey, that we're not alone. We're never really alone,
(07:24):
and I think that so many people forget that fact,
and so when the challenges in life come about, I
think we tend to resort to worldly solutions. You know,
when we have challenges, you some people might rely on
(07:46):
alcohol to solve their problems, or they might rely on
a prescription drug or just you know whatever. And God
wants us to rely on Him. And I think it's
so important for our readers to know that, and our
(08:07):
listeners to know that that we're not alone and we
do have Him, and so in my book, that's what
I try to convey. I've had Christ in my life
ever since I was four and a half years old.
I've taken Him with me everywhere I go, and believe me,
(08:28):
I am no different than anyone else. I have all
the challenges that everyone else has, and I've had my
moments of insecurities, and they are easier to deal with
when you do have Jesus with you. So I'm sure
(08:50):
that some of our listeners here will be able to
reflect on their own life as they read my book.
I'm hoping that's what they do. I hope that they
can make a comparison and see that we all go
through the same challenge as some life.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
So absolutely we do. Peggy.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I remember the very first time my parents left me
with my grandparents and my cousins and Uh.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
The first night I cried and I remember my uh
my grandmother saying, well, son, and she's not coming back,
because you know, they didn't live close, but she's not
coming back, so get the cry out and.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
You know, come join the rest of us. And in
that moment, of course, I didn't think it was ridiculous
to cry. No, I was very homesick, but uh reinsurance
did come that I was with family and that I
was okay, and my family were Christians, so I was
(09:57):
super okay. Do you do you do you have that
moment where your parents left you somewhere for the very
first time?
Speaker 6 (10:05):
Oh yes, I think every child has experienced that, and
it is scary. But again, you know, at a very
early age, I was given you know, Christ as a friend,
and so I knew I was never alone. It didn't
(10:30):
take away to you know, the fear. Of course it's there,
but knowing that you're not alone, it does relieve it
some you know what I'm saying, It's the fear is
not as intense. But my grandmother was an incredibly devout
(10:54):
Christian and so when I was with her for the
short time that I was and crying like you like
you were crying, you know, missing my mommy. She gave
me a picture of Jesus and told me in Italian
(11:17):
because I come from an Italian background, and she told me,
she said in Italian, she said, this is a friend.
You keep him as your friend. And she gave me
a picture of Jesus and I cudd it, snuggled with it,
followed with it, and I was no longer, you know, afraid.
(11:40):
And I know that's a pretty strong statement. How can
a picture take fear away from you? I can't really
explain that, except that, even though I was only four
and a half years old, I did my parents did
take us to church. I did know about Jesus. We
(12:03):
had Sunday School and we read all about Jesus and
the Bible, all the Bible stories. But he was just
a character in Sunday School. He wasn't a real person
to me. He wasn't tangible. The picture made him tangible,
and it made, you know, it made me feel like
(12:25):
he was really there with me, and so I became
to rely on him all of my life. As a child,
I would I would take him with me everywhere I went.
(12:46):
You know, it's hard to explain, you know, today yeah,
you know today when we you know, if you're staying
with your grandparent and you're having difficulty being away from
your your mom, your you know, your grandma or your nanny, whoever,
might give you a teddy bear to cuddle with or
(13:08):
you know, or whatever, something to calm you down and
make you feel comfortable and safe. My grandmother didn't have that.
She had a picture of Jesus. And so some young
people carry a teddy bear around with them for a
long time as their security and h and I yeah,
(13:33):
and my security was was Jesus. And so I would
like for people to know just how important that relationship
can be to them. It really, you know, when when
(13:55):
God was in the garden of Eden with Adam and
Eve talking to them and having a relationship with them,
he loved that. He truly did love that that time
that he spent with them, And that is what God
wants with us. And so often we reach out to
(14:19):
God when we're in trouble or none troubles are strong
word to say, yeah, well we have challenge, you know,
we just reach out at that time. But God really
wants us to have Him in our life all the time,
(14:42):
all day, every day, and I take him with me
all day, every day. And I'm sure I'm not alone
out there. I know that there are other Christians who
feel the way that I feel about, you know, their
relationship with Christ. But yeah, and so I just I
(15:07):
just want people to know what they're missing. And it's
just I don't know how people live without them. I
truly don't. So I'm hoping that my book and my
sharing some of my stories in the book, that readers
(15:29):
will be able to relate to them and they would say,
you know, these are real stories. Yeah, I can. You know,
I've done that and I know you know, and they
can relate to it and see the hand of God
in their life. And because we don't, we're so wrapped
(15:51):
up in the world today that we don't see it.
We don't see his hand. We think that the journeys
that you know, the roads that we travel, Sure we
take those roads by choice. God gives us choice, and
we make decisions in our life, but He's still there
(16:13):
with us, and when we make the bad decisions, he
navigates us out of those situations. And I don't think
I don't think a lot of people see his hand,
that he's there. I don't think people actually see His
hand navigating us through life. And I hope to convey
(16:36):
that to them. So that's why I wrote the book.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Indeed, and just to piggy back off he just finished
with and then we'll talk about the book.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
You know, the children of Israel when they left Egypt,
is like God was all over.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Their lives and they were like, and you know, they
were as Christians, we know, baby Christians.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
You know, it's like, what's next, God, What's next?
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Like they got to be there every waken minute, and
he was. But at the same time too, as you
become aware of God's awesome power, you know, part of
that responsibility is doing things for yourself. And it seems
like they were always expecting, you know, the next thing,
(17:32):
and when they didn't get that next thing, they kind
of strayed away. And even in our lives today, and
I could tell you God's fingerprint is all over even
if it's just a s fingerprint, It's.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
All over my life. But there are times when I do,
you know, forget that, like, well, what's next, What's next?
You know, I'm in this valley.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
I'm going through the valley of the Shadow of Death,
you know, where are you, you know, and not realize
that He's given me the strength to even go through that,
to even realize that. So as a person who was
very knowledgeable of the Bible and still forgets that, you know,
(18:13):
God has his fingerprint all my life.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
I just need constant reminders. But in your book, you
just you describe your life as an unexpected journey. At
what point did you realize your story needed to be
written and not just lived?
Speaker 6 (18:35):
Well, I, you know, people always ask me about my
story of faith and and with you know, people that
I meet that they're always asking me they can see
Christ in me. I'm always sharing Christ with with people,
and so they like to hear the story. And I thought,
(18:59):
you know, I need to share the story with people
that I don't come into contact with. So I need
to write the book. I resisted doing it at first
because I wasn't I wasn't sure how to convey what
(19:24):
I wanted to say. And God kept nudging me and saying,
you need to write this book. You need to put
it down in writing. You keep telling people your story, okay,
you know, write it down. Put it down writing. So
that's what I did, and it's just a short weok,
(19:47):
it's a small book, it's a short story. It's an
easy read. I mean, you can read it in an hour,
hour and a half. Most of my readers have told
me that that's exactly what they did. I never put
the book down because it was a page turner for them,
and they were interested in the next chapter and they
(20:10):
wanted to see how the book would end. So I
intended it to be that way, or God intended it
to be that way. It's intended to be a book
of me sharing my story, just as if I'm sitting
(20:34):
across the table from you and you asking me, well, Peggy,
how did your journey of faith begin? And then I
begin to tell you the story. That's how the book
was written. It was intended to be a short, easy
to read, very easy to read, so that any age
(20:57):
group could pick the book up and read it, and
I'm hoping that they could relate to it. And the
responses that I'm getting is that they could. You know,
they really felt like, yes, I've been there.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Fear and insecurity play a central role in this book.
How did those early struggles shape the woman you would
eventually become?
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Well, I would have to say that They made me
a stronger person, and they reinforced my loyalty and commitment
to Christ. You know. That's that's the best way I
can answer that question. I think that we all learned
(21:49):
through this our struggles in life, at least we should. So, yeah,
that's how I would answer that question.
Speaker 8 (21:58):
Yeah right, Uh where can our listeners find find your book?
Speaker 6 (22:07):
How did they find my book? They can find it
on my website, uh www dot The Unexpected Journey pww
dot com.
Speaker 8 (22:23):
And finally, if someone feels stuck in an unexpected chapter
of their life, what reminder do they need to hear today?
Speaker 6 (22:34):
They're not alone. They need to take Jesus with them
on their journey of life. You know, Uh, who was it?
Rick Warren wrote a book, The Purpose Driven Life several
years ago. I don't know if you've read it, or
if any of your listeners have read it, But we
(22:55):
all have a purpose in life, and God created us
for a purpose and He's not going to do that
and leave us. You know, He's going to be with
us always. It's us who will choose to drift away
from him. And so I would like to tell our
(23:19):
listeners that they should never let that happen. Take connected.
Take Jesus with you everywhere you go. You will never
be alone. He will take you on a journey that
you would never plan to go on. If you were
to sit down and write a map of your life
(23:41):
of where you should be, it would never match what
God intends for you. Take Jesus with you.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Amen and listeners.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Just in case you need those links to the book,
I will have them in the description of this episode
