Il becchino Adrian trasloca da un quartiere ad un altro di Mosca, trasferendo abitazione ed attività. I suoi vicini di bottega sono artigiani tedeschi installatisi nella capitale. Uno di questi, un estroverso calzolaio, lo invita all’anniversario delle sue nozze. Alla festa, tra brindisi e prelibatezze, il becchino prende una sbornia. La notte andranno a trovarlo tutti i morti di cui ha curato la sepoltura.
Un racconto in cui dal realismo, che fa da sfondo, emergono immagini grottesche e toni di sapore gotico (oggi diremmo “creepy”).
Dopo “La tempesta di neve” e “La pistolettata”, è questo il terzo racconto che Vocifero audioracconti dedica al padre della letteratura russa.
