RadioMD News... I'm John Byrd.Florida has been declared Zika-free, reports the CDC. Pregnant women who live or have been to the area should continue to be evaluated for Zika exposure, say officials. Florida is the only state to have confirmed cases of locally transmitted Zika infection, although Texas recently reported a suspected case of local infection.In a related note, Zika-linked birth defects have surged in the South American country of Columbia, no longer just confined to the country of Brazil. There has been a fourfold increase in reported cases in the past year in Colombia. Experts fear the total is actually even higher.And... tis the season to be merry. Just make sure you don't get too "merry." During the holiday season, gatherings and office parties are a part of the festivities. Unfortunately, so are alcohol-related accidents and deaths.
