Air Check: Backstage Betty's House Party

December 24, 201317 min
At that moment. Post 1997. Josh Goodman and Stacy Cantrell get all the the credit for having the vision to take major chances on untrained Radio talent. They discovered Mary Kelly. Or so I thought. Turns out the Queen of all Chefs at Jefferson Pilots Pine Terrace restaurant. Had been a major superstar in the 80's on Jeff Wicker's WBCY show. Mary always had a way with words and Radio loved how she didn't fear showing off. Mary got her second wind in broadcasting hosting commercials for a local amphitheater. I remixed the Ram Jam song Black Betty and came up with the character Backstage Betty. She was to be a 70 year young backstage groupie. No wait. Friend of all friends to all the band members. Gaining in popularity. Program Director Neil Sharpe brought Betty on board to host the Carolina House Party. We made it to 51 shows.
