Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones walking back.

Speaker 5 (01:05):
It is our number two Kentucky Sports Radio eight five
nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is
seven seven two seven four five two five four. Can
I tell you something that even I didn't know that
is going on right now?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
What is it? I didn't know? This is kind of embarrassing.
I didn't rise. Today was election day? Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Oh, shame on you. It's primary election day?

Speaker 5 (01:28):
Yes, I honestly, I mean I guess I knew it
was coming, but I don't know that I processed it
was today.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yep. So did you vote?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
No?

Speaker 6 (01:39):
I'm going after the show.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
What are we voting on? Is that the House or what?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I don't even know district.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I'm trying to.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
Think what what would what? What is there any race
that's that's close.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
I don't see any yard signs in Lexington? Did it
help me persuade my decision? But there are a ton
of them in Georgetown. I mean they're all over.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Because they're trying to replace Damon Thayer.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I bet maybe that's that what it is.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
Yeah, So Damon Thayer, who's been the senator there for
like seven hundred years, he is not He didn't run again.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
So I bet that's the race.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
There, okive, US House races.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, but I mean none of them are going to
change hand.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Three state Senate races. But that's I'm just telling you
what we're voting on.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I don't know that there's is there anything big?

Speaker 6 (02:32):
Well, all of the elections are big.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
I understand that that's the nice thing to say. But uh,
all right, well I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
So go vote, though, go vote.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
I'll be there.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Twoy said, let's talk a real quick recruit. First of all,
Darren is there. He goes on at eleven thirty. How's
he looking?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Run?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Oh, they're they're loose, they're looking Mario shot a little
video with them, so they're they're ready to go.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
Did say they're a little nervous in the pregame interview,
But you know you're not feeling it if you're not
nervous before something big, So I think that could be
a good sign.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
I'm not having come on right before just to introduce
him to the world. So he's gonna be on in
thirty minutes. I hope he's ready. Do you think he's
as he prepared topics?

Speaker 6 (03:13):
Have you prepared topics? He says, oh, yeah, they have topics.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Shit, they're good on Darren's dad caught it and said,
he has twelve topics for thirty minutes of radio, so
I think he's gonna be just fine.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
He got an Ovio Kentucky shirt on those What do
you mean?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
His dad called?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
His dad caught in on the pre show.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
Oh okay, his dad called in on the show twelve
to I.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Said, that's playing for thirty not even thirty minutes of radio,
so he's gonna be overly prepared.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
All right, I like it, That's what I want to hear.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
All right.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Chas Lanier was on campus yesterday, Drew, and then he
went to Tennessee last night. They painted the rock for him.
You know that rock they have there. They painted the
rock and said, Chaz come home. He put that on
his Instagram story. I didn't like that. Just stupid rock shot.
Who cares about the rock? Who paints a rock? They
paint a rock, you know. Yeah, people paint the train

(04:02):
trestle in Middlesbrough all the time. Doesn't mean you should
go play there right for college bass? Ye, he's down
to Kentucky, Tennessee, and by you, all right, I'm eliminating byu.
He's not Mormon, Drew, why are you signing up for
that if you're not Mormon.

Speaker 6 (04:18):
Now there's buzzday have in Io money, but we have
ni O money too, So if it's just money versus money,
you're you're picking Lexington's or maybe Knock.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
So I think it's Kentucky or Tennessee. What are you hear, Andrew?
What's the latest scoop?

Speaker 6 (04:32):
Well, they did the usual Jeff Jeff Ruby's trip, did
a little walk through Triangle Park downtown, and then he
got in the car and made the late trip to Knoxville.
Like you said, he seemed very impressed by that rock.
I'm a will thrown off by that rock?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Why do you care so much about the rock?

Speaker 6 (04:45):
And he posted it on his story as soon as
he got there. I saw you got out and took
pictures with some fans by the rock in the middle
of the night. I always thought that's where they put
stuff about like Greg Ciano and then negative things. But uh,
we're up against this rock right now.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Do we need our own Yes, if that's what it
takes to get this kid, let's just go get a
rock and put it over on campus and paint.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
We can't have a rock because that's what they have.
So what can we have instead of a rock the tree?

Speaker 6 (05:12):
You can't paint a piece of limestone somewhere? Can we
paint limestone?

Speaker 8 (05:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
I don't like I don't like that. The rock was impressive.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Now somebody sent me a picture and and granted, Okay,
I don't want people. The last time we talked about
text from the text machine, it went online. As Matt
Jones said, this is a text machine post.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
And this is not a me post I got.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
But it had a picture and it was Lanear at
the Hurts rent a car.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, we didn't make him rent a car, didn't we.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Oh, I see what you're saying. I hope not.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Well, I would think that would be more Tennessee man
a car to get there because it was done.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
If he's well, this was this was Sunday night. This
was Sunday night.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
He had to fly in from BYU.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
But we didn't make him rent a card.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
He wouldn't rent a car just for one day visit.
He would need to rent the car for Knoxville.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
What if we rented him like a Ferrari or something
crazy like that.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Do they have those?

Speaker 6 (06:12):
It hurts.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
I don't know. Tom Brady advertises for him. I don't
think he's driving around Evolvo.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah. I just didn't like the rent a car. But
maybe you're right.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Maybe Tennessee said rent a car, drive through Williamsburg and
then come to Knoxville. Maybe that's what happened, uh, Ryan,
is he had to rent a car to go to Knoxville.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Something in the hopes that the interstate was shut down
and they he had to go that route. You took
us through from Middlesborough to Knoxville that one.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Maybe he had to go to uh to Pineville to
the flow Cove. I don't know, but.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
We heard all the the am church services on that Sunday.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah, I don't know. I just saw the rent a
car picture and wondered, but maybe he should. Maybe he
just knew somebody there. But we don't know drew our
visit went, do we No, we were.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Rooting for a boom.

Speaker 6 (07:03):
You know, you didn't want him to go to Knoxville.
But that's been his plan all along. So maybe it
went well and they just said I got to finish
this through because he did have a plan of all
three in a row BYU Kentucky, Tennessee and then he'll
he'll make his decision. So he escaped without booming. But
that doesn't mean it didn't go well.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
All right, we'll find out. Now.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
I want to give you a little update of the
most important thing happening in college sports that you may
not realize. This week, all of the major conferences are
meeting to decide whether or not to approve the settlement
in the case House versus NCAA. Ryan, are you familiar
with this at all?

Speaker 1 (07:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Okay, Shannon. Is he gonna be able to get it
through these.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
I don't know. We'll find out.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
We'll find out who has a better chance of getting
through the show. Ryan the summer or Darren.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Darn has twelve topics.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Darren has twelve topics.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Ryan has not been reading on the biggest settlement that's
coming in college sports. Read up on it. But this
is what is happening college. A group of lawyers sued
on behalf of all college players of all time, which
is quite a class, basically saying you all withheld money

(08:21):
from players for years and took it to your own enrichment.
Sued for twenty Shannon billion dollars. Twenty billion dollars. They
are reports say about to settle for two billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Two billion dollars still a huge settlement.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
I'd love to have those attorneys fees. You wouldn't have
to work again. But basically the settlement looks like this.
Each school will commit to an amount of money to
pay the past damages and the future damages. Basically, this
would be the lawsuit that would settle all lawsuits to

(09:11):
ever come about giving money to college players directly. Basically,
Shannon paying players right right, and colleges would agree in
the major conferences to pay up to twenty million dollars
a year to be shared amongst players in all the
various sports. Now it's not clear who would get what

(09:34):
that's still to come, But for the NCAAA they want
this because this would basically mean that from now on
they wouldn't have to worry about being sued because they
don't pay these guys. It would essentially set the precedent
forever of how athletes will get compensated. There's a lot

(09:55):
of talk about how the money's gonna come. The NCAAA
is gonna pay for some it. Small colleges are going
to pay for some of it. Big colleges are going
to pay for a lot of it. But ultimately this
would make it to where players would get paid and
all past claims that people listening, many of you listening,

(10:17):
maybe former D one athletes, You might end up with
a check one day, Ryan for some amount of money,
probably a small amount of money, but maybe some amount
of money. Now here's the part that matters. When this happens,
schools are going to have to take up to twenty
million dollars a year and set aside for athletes. That

(10:44):
is a massive sum of money. The ramifications of that
are going to be something that people don't even realize yet.
For instance, I think we will see coaches salaries on
the whole Ryan go down. Yeah, that's gonna happen. I
think those nice new buildings you ain't gonna see as

(11:04):
many of them because now everybody has to factor in
the twenty million dollars in their budget. And now this
is a big thing. I think every college in America
in Division IE, including Kentucky, is going to have to
cut sports. It's going to happen. Every school is gonna

(11:28):
see sports cut. Kentucky has twenty three programs on their campus.
Ohio State Drew has thirty six. Some of those are
gonna go away. They just are. I don't know what
they'll be. I think every college will have to make
their own choice. They also have to follow Title nine,

(11:51):
so when they cut one program, they'll have to cut
another program maybe on the other side. But we are
going to see this summer while I'm gone, probably the
most fundamental structural shift in college athletics of all time,

(12:11):
likely with this year and next year, the ending of
college programs at nearly every school, and in a completely.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Different way that the college budgets are going to have
to be organized.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Ryan, I would argue this is the biggest change that
has come to college sports, maybe since integration, and it's
coming and I don't think most people even realize it.
There's been a lot of focus on NIL and the
transfer portal and that stuff matters, but this goes at

(12:48):
the whole heart of the foundation and what college sports is.
I think it's a good thing because if they don't
do this, it's all going to fall apart in the
next years, which is why I think they're all gonna
do it.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
But we will see massive structural change coming in the
next year to two that will in two years college
sports will look completely different than it does right now.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Kind of scary what you just said, to be honest,
thinking about my thoughts were originally like, what about the
smaller schools like more Head and Eastern.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
They they're gonna lose They're gonna lose it too. Yeah,
I mean they're every I'm gonna make your prediction. Almost
every college in America will have one or two fewer
sports in two years than they have now.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
And as you know, a lot of these schools, their
budget thrives on what they make from their athletic budget.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
But well, not many. Most schools now lose money in sports.
Kentucky's one of the few that turns a profit.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
The scholarships will come down on the sports that do.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I think you'll see that. I think you're gonna see.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
I think you're gonna see a fundamental change in everything.
And I don't know drew that to finish. I'll let
you do finish your point. I don't know where it goes.
There's a lot of things that will be on the table.

Speaker 6 (14:08):
I've been reading up on the title nine impact too.
I mean, do you if it's twenty million, does ten
have to go? I don't think it does have to
go to women's I don't think it out. They have
to figure that out though, was reading up on how
that's that's an issue they've run into.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
They don't know for sure, but I don't think it
will because they'll talk like it's it's complicated. But Title
nine law is about opportunity, and they can say the
payment is based on revenue generated.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
But here's what they can't do. They still have to
give an equal amount of scholarships. So if they cut
a men's program, Ryan, they'll probably have to cut a
women's one two or vice versa.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Man. That's it's that's scary stuff you're talking about right
there in our future.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
So it's crazy them.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
Eminem NCAA is trying to pay this huge tab because
if it goes to court, I guess they could get
even higher. If it goes to coop they chance there.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Here's why they're settling this.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
If it goes to court, they will lose, and Shannon,
they could lose twenty billion dollars, which would end the
whole thing.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Oh yeah, it's a dangerous path to go on.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
They have to settle because they're gonna lose.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
To settle for two billion, even if that sounds crazy.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
They have to. They're gonna lose the model of college sports.
And I don't care whether you liked it or not.
Was illegal and we've done it for one hundred years,
and now after that Supreme Court case two years ago,
it can't happen anymore. And this is how it'll settle.

(15:40):
So this is something to watch. You should read up
on the House. It's it's I know it's house. Makes
it sound like the House of Representatives. It's not the
House of Representatives. It's a plaintiff called House. You need
to read up on that case because when I come
back in August, college sports is going to look different
because of that case.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
And in a year, it's gonna look a lot different.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
This segment was sponsored by Pelicon Technologies, another great example

(16:24):
It's Pelicon p l y con dot com slash KSR

from any attack with pelicon. We'll take a break. I
got folks on the phone. I'll go to him and
then we'll let Darren do his thing for thirty minutes.
That's next. KSR, welcome back, take you sports radio. All right, shit,

(16:45):
it's good. The Hurts photo was fake? Oh good, Okay,
I'm glad I assumed it was.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
But I did see a good idea. Maybe he wanted
to go that route to go past chain Rock, and
we're gonna paint something up on it.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
It's worth a drive.

Speaker 9 (17:00):
It's not.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
It is a stupid rock with the chain of rock
that has saved attacks.

Speaker 7 (17:05):
Oh save Yeah, all right, Jason, go for it.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Jason, good morning.

Speaker 10 (17:11):
Straight out of the six, Straight out of the six
or six from Bethlen, Pennsylvania.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
Right now, I'll tell you what a.

Speaker 10 (17:16):
Church Ley softball appears very competitive and yeah, I've seen
a couple of guys get mowed down.

Speaker 11 (17:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
And then they implemented the.

Speaker 10 (17:22):
Two base thing, and you don't even touch it the
outside base if you're rounding and you hit like a
double or something. So there's no worries.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
So you don't think it's stupid. You think it makes sense.

Speaker 10 (17:31):
Yeah, it definitely makes sense because you're only using that
outside base whenever you're mowing down the line trying to
leg out an infield infield hit or such. And if
you've round, if you're going to round first anyway and
head towards second, you ignore.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
The outside base completely.

Speaker 9 (17:43):
So that's how that rolls, all right.

Speaker 10 (17:45):
As for a Chasselaine here, uh looking to see I
was actually calling and see how that went with him.
And any word on Jackson Robinson?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Uh, still no word.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
Somebody Uh one of the draft people said he's fifty
to fifty to stay in the draft, but the his
uh stock is rising, which obviously would hurt us.

Speaker 10 (18:04):
So, yeah, is there anybody else up in you think
Pope my pursue and any.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Change, I don't.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
I mean, I'm sure they would go get someone else.
I appreciate the call, but I I think those are
the two guys, Drew that are I mean, if you're
talking about a difference maker, those are the two that
are left. Now, someone could always pop up that that
can happen, but those are the two, wouldn't you say
left that can be a difference maker?

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Yeah. A few weeks ago, Miami Wooga popular popular was
on that list.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I don't.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
I haven't seen much communication or anything reported though they're
in touch with him. Maybe there they are, but it
seems they're down to Robinson and Lanier. And if you know,
you get a boom from Laneer tomorrow or this week,
Robinson might just see that and that might be what
he needs to keep him in the draft. He seems
like he's truly split because he's getting good, good feedback.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
I mean, you'd love to have them both, but I
think realistically you gotta get one.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Vernon. What's up, Vernon?

Speaker 12 (19:00):
I'd just have a d Schambeau comment with some Kentucky flavor.
Years ago, if you remember when Couch and Yeast and
Company beat Alabama, had a twelve year old son, and
we stormed the field and Craig Yeast gave Elijah his
wristband and a guy snatched it, and before I could
get to that guy, Craig Yeaese grabbed him, took it

(19:22):
back away from him, gave it back to my son
and said I gave it for the little guy, and
then interactingly enough. Years later, my son played football at
Center College and Craig Yeaest came in for a football camp,
and Elijah was able to say, hey, you remember giving
a wristband to a little guy at Commonwealth Stadium and

(19:42):
they kind of connected over that and we still have
that wristband.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
Well, that's very cool. Let me ask you. I appreciate
call Shandon. Let's say you threw out a I don't know,
a guitar pick or something, or one of your scarves
you wear when you're up there on the band and
you were trying to throw it to a kid and
and some person grabbed it. Would you go, would you
pull a d Chambeau and say give it back to
the kid?

Speaker 4 (20:05):
No, that's security should take care of that. In that situation,
you have security. I making security of the bad guy. Hey, security,
go there and get that.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
You have security.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Yeah, a concert like a big at a like a
like like when you play at amp.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Let me play at the amp for instance.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Wait, what's say you play it like tin roof?

Speaker 3 (20:24):
No, well you know sometimes there is security there.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
Hduring the summer, Ryan Shannon is going to make his
debut appearance at chos Bar.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Security.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
I'll be security that night.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
That'll be in July. Everybody put that on your calendar.
Shannon is going to make his first chos Bar show.
Are you excited about that? To play on not some
home turf?

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Yeah, yeah, we are. You got to set up outside
or inside.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
Still working on, still trying to figure out what makes
the most fun. I don't know that building is not
shaped perfectly for a concert or.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Too loud for that building?

Speaker 2 (21:01):
What does that mean?

Speaker 3 (21:02):
It means we're loud and the way it's set up,
it's not set up for live music.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
We're gonna be loud. Chaos March get Killed?

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Is gonna hate us?

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Well, they can shut up.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Let's bring the party over to Chas Bar.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Yeah, sumo and you're just gonna have some sushi and noise.
Harry Queen, shut.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
Up, Dairy Queen, Sonic Sonic.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Dwight, go ahead, Dwight.

Speaker 11 (21:27):
Yeah. I just had a comment about the person that
was talking about sliding in a co ed league. Yes,
and I used to play in a co ed church
league and the men always had to slide head first.
So if he slid the first, he was probably breaking
the rules.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
So the men so that they wouldn't hurt like a
second basement or that's a man or woman?

Speaker 11 (21:54):
Correct?

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Would you slide into Ryan a woman's second base.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
That's tough.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Spikes up, metal spikes up.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
See I always slid feed first, anyway, always.

Speaker 11 (22:11):
You always the men had the slide head first.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
Interesting. I appreciate the call. I feel like Ryan still
goes spikes up on a.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
He's the guy wearing metal spikes in a church league.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
That's exactly right. All right, Bring Darren on here real.

Speaker 13 (22:50):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
What's up Hazard, Kentucky? Real quick? Tell everybody what you do, Darren.

Speaker 13 (22:55):
I just graduated from pharmacy school like earlier this month,
made the third right now, I'm waiting on taking my boards,
but I'm going to become a pharmacist whenever I pass
my board exams.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Are you ready for this today?

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 13 (23:08):
I feel pretty good about myself and my boys. The
twelve topics, I don't think we're getting through all of them.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
That's okay, all right, So here we go.

Speaker 5 (23:15):

More of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 13 (23:43):
Welcome back everyone. This is Darren Smith with Kentucky Sports Radio.
I wanted to thank you all for let me have
this opportunity here. Sure man, I was genuinely shocked whenever
I won the bracket challenge. I couldnot say I'm I mean,
I believe we were actually watching the National Championship game. Ever,

(24:04):
I found out that I have won, and I didn't
even uh get to tweet myself. I think it was
Keeling who was going to be on the show.

Speaker 14 (24:12):
After the first break, uh he he said, hey, is
this you? And He's like's I think she won this thing?
And I was so shocked. I was so confused. I
was like, what is going on?

Speaker 1 (24:22):
I didn't when you have a bunch of teams in
the final four, is that how you want it?

Speaker 13 (24:26):
I know I had the final game predicted. I don't
know about the final core predicted. I know I had
the U Yukon beaten Purdue. So that really shocked, you
know that. I got that. I had the UK going
really deep.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Uh So that didn't work out well for you.

Speaker 13 (24:42):
I was really shocked. Uh after that one. Yeah, that happening.
I don't want to talk.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
You got to figure everybody else picked the same thing.
Everybody else had Kentucky going far.

Speaker 13 (24:52):
Absolutely yeah. Uh but yeah, I figured I'd like to
introduce myself just that way everybody sort of knows what's
going on. Yeah, my name is Darren Smith. I'm from
Perry County, Hazzard, Kentucky. I'm a preacher's kid. I believe
my dad actually caught it on the pre show earlier.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
He did.

Speaker 13 (25:08):
Yeah, he he called me to let me know that.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
I should have brought him with you. He's quite a talker.

Speaker 13 (25:14):
Yeah, he told me that he put down keeling about
being short and stature, but that's okay. But anyways, Uh,
I just graduated here in the start of this month. Yeah,
I'm looking to go back home to Hazard to work
at in pharmacy for you men, in just like a
regular independent pharmacy. I'm not looking forward to being like

(25:37):
a hospital farm. So that just never really was my
sort of ordeal.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
But yeah, that speaks how you because so many kids
that grow up in the mountains, they go to school
and they don't come back and give back to their community.
You're gonna do that, so that's important.

Speaker 13 (25:51):
Yeah. I feel like the reason why I wanted to
do that was just because there's no secret in eastern Kentucky.
There's like a drug problem and stuff like that. So
I felt like being doing going into that line of work,
I could potentially make some sort of a difference in
that just pharmacy in generals. Yeah, a big big thing
for that.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
Like you already have bonus points for Matt from being
from the mountains and the mountains too.

Speaker 13 (26:13):
You're playing to the to the crowd here, Yeah, six
o six shout out. So I was gonna go ahead
and get into our first topic. If you guys will, Hey,
this is your show, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (26:23):
The first thing I'd like to talk about. I don't
know if you all seen this or not, but Bleacher
Report put out last night that, well, I want you
all to guess who was the most bet player to
go first overall in this NBA draft. If you had
a guess, I'll go with Sorry, sorry, yeah, Olivier's brother. Okay,
Well they have Brownie James as the most bet player

(26:44):
to go first number overall.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (26:47):
Uh, the current odds are two hundred to one, so
I'm not really sure, you know.

Speaker 6 (26:55):
I mean, I was there any scenario where he would
go number one overall? I can't think of one.

Speaker 8 (27:00):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Well, know, when you get a dad with you.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
For two years, that'd be recked.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
That's a lot of money to gamble that you're just
gonna have Lebron for two years basically what you're drafting
him for.

Speaker 13 (27:10):
Well, even that you're getting Lebron at the end of
his career, you know, so you're not even I feel
like a like a contender would be the one to
draft Bronni because you're wanting to get that extra piece
to put you over the over the top instead of
you know, potentially a team that's in a rebuild mode
like Atlanta, you know, which they they aren't really a rebuild,
they're just sort of working on that.

Speaker 14 (27:29):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
But it's kind of wild to put your actual hard
arm money down two one to try to get Bronnie
James first.

Speaker 13 (27:38):
Yeah. I'm super excited about the Spurs though, because I
believe that one of our Kentucky boys are going to
go there, yes and pair up with Wimby. So I
feel like that's potentially a Kentucky fan rooting thing, especially
if free Chapper goes there, because you know everybody loves
would read and Rob.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Uh, yeah, who's gonna go ahead of the other.

Speaker 13 (28:04):
Having looked at like some of the Spurs like fan
talk groups and stuff like that, most of their fans
seem to be actually wanting like Read over Rob, I
don't know which I mean. Obviously Rob, you get the
sort of the wow factor of it and stuff like that,
but read They mentioned specifically because their team has had
issues shooting. He's such a lethal shooter. Uh huh. I'm

(28:24):
super excited to see how that goes. They've also got
the ninth pick, so potentially, you know they're building something
there and it would be really nice to see one
of our you know, potentially Read or Rob having a
good career ablong side of Wimby.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I think that, Yeah, let them kind of grow together
and you know, become superstars right in front of our eyes.
So I think whichever one they pick, I mean, I'm
excited about what the Spurs are gonna do.

Speaker 6 (28:46):
I'm thinking we see Reid to Houston at number three,
even though the Spurs love Read. I think that's pretty clear.
I don't think he falls to four, which is crazy
to say out loud, because I think Houston loves him too.
So I think Houston goes Read and then we get
a Rob Wemby future in San Antonio, which.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Would be the first collegiate player selected.

Speaker 6 (29:04):
I think so. I mean, unless Atlanta and Washington did
something else, we even took him higher. I don't know
as much what they're looking at, but I've heard positive
things about Houston being interested in Reed Shepherd.

Speaker 13 (29:14):
Yeah, so I think that's really good. Who do you
all got in these these conference finals coming up in
the NBA?

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Well, I've been die hard Indiana Pacer fan, and that
low life Shannon the dude on the other end, he
is a Boston Celtic fan, so we're gonna have fun
for Are you a Celtic fan? Also, oh, we we
can't be friends. I'm a pacer through and through.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Enjoying her four games in the conference finals.

Speaker 13 (29:41):
Yeah, I mean I like Indiana. You know, obviously they
whenever they're hot, they're they're hot.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
You know, they were really hot on Sunday against the Knicks.
They were the best team in the league Sunday. I don't.

Speaker 13 (29:53):
I mean, Boston gets hot too, but when Indiana gets hot,
they can go on like these massive like twenty zero
runs and stuff like that, which pretty intimidating for a
prober Celtics fan. But other than that, I mean, Celtics,
just through and through a defensive league, are just much better,
I think than.

Speaker 6 (30:07):
I don't think teams are given Indiana enough a chance.
Boston's clearly better. I think they're a ten and a
half point favorite tonight. That's deserved. I mean, it's a sweep,
is you know, probable, But I think there's a chance
Indiana surprise everyone. Let's not forget this is our playing
tournament champion in December, amen, so they knows what it
takes to run through the bracket. Eventually, Boston, you know

(30:29):
they're gonna have some bad games. They've been It's been
a pretty smooth process through the playoffs so far. So
even though Boston's a much better team, I'm not completely
giving up on Indiana shocking some people and making it
a series.

Speaker 13 (30:40):
Yeah, And I think a lot of people forget that
Indiana also beat Boston in that play in tournament's.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Right, thank you, thank you, Shannon. Just have the Celtics
play Luke Cornett. Keep playing Luke Cornette out there, and
the Pacers are gonna win this one.

Speaker 13 (30:55):
Luke Cornett's Loki a dog though, you know, keep hating
on Luke, But uh, who y'all got in the West?
Come out of the West there, it's it's Minnesota versus
one of the Mavericks.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Anthony Edwards is the best player in the game right now.
He is the superstar. He's the guy that it's gonna
be the future we're all gonna be talking about. And
they're on a roll right now. And car Anthony Towns
had a good game on this weekend. He had like
twenty three points and twelve rebounds. I think, so it'd
be hard to pick against those guys. I think, yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
I mean, Minnesota has been pretty special and they're so
fun to watch. I love Carl's finally getting some postseasons, yes,
even though he's the number two now. But I kind
of like what Pj's doing next to those guards in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
He had a big game.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
I know, I'm gonna lean Dallas a little bit of
an upset pick, just so you have Luca and Kyrie
and there. In the last series they made PJ. Washington
beat them in some games, and he did. He did
five threes in Game five or six, I believe, So
this one's gonna be going. I think we're getting a
Game seven, and I'm gonna slightly lean toward Dallas with
what Pj's doing.

Speaker 13 (31:54):
Yeah, I remember back in the day whenever we used
to just cheer for whichever team had a Kentucky player
on it, And now it's like you're cheering for everybody
if you do that. So, so.

Speaker 6 (32:06):
I guess you all, who was it? You and Shannon
are the two that hate the team of that Kentucky
player yourself. Here we got Isaiah Jackson with the Pacers.
That's one of the most forgotten players.

Speaker 13 (32:16):
Celtics used to have James young while he was still
in the league, and you know, he was my only
hope for a Celtics fan. But other than that, yeah,
that's uh, that's the only team that doesn't have a
Kentucky player.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Try this read, Well, you got us on here.

Speaker 6 (32:29):
We got to read.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Yeah, he's got to do his draft, gets to do
the Draft Kings read all.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
Guess we did just mention the ten and a half
the point spread.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
We got the playoffs start. Both games are both game
one tonight once tomorrow. Okay, we're gonna have Celtics tonight, right.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
I think we're gonna have a ks R parlay tomorrow.
We might build, but for now, let's hear what what
the read is?

Speaker 1 (32:47):
All right?

Speaker 13 (32:48):
Bear with me? Everybody got this?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (32:51):

Speaker 13 (34:08):
Okay, Yeah, all right, we'll be right back for answer
some calls and we'll get Keeling and Austin back over here.
Thank you guys, it's his ks R. Welcome back. Everyone's
Kentucky Sports Radio joined by two of my pals here,
Keelan Napier and Austin Miller. Go ahead, introduce yourself, guys.

(34:29):
Keelan told him everybody about yourself a little bit.

Speaker 9 (34:31):
My name's Keelan Napier. H.

Speaker 14 (34:33):
I'm from the six O six for Darren, from uh
Wed to Perry Central. I grew up watching fourteenth Region
legends on the basketball court. We had guys like Dame Tubler,
who's known for that big dunk at Rupparita Braxon Beverley
who played at n C State. More of a recent
one is Noah Back. He's actually enrolled at UK right
now and he's got two years of eligibility left. If
Mark Pope wants a walk on.

Speaker 13 (34:54):
Shooter, yeah absolutely, maybe that you know preferred walk on
or maybe in that thirteenth scholarship spot from Mark Pope. Austrely,
you want to tell everybody a little bit about yourself.

Speaker 6 (35:03):
Yeah, my name's Austin Miller.

Speaker 15 (35:04):
Grew up with Darren high school college and uh yeah man,
diehard Kentucky fan and uh going going to be a
pharmacist as well. Uh nuclear farmacists down here in lex'ton
shouting my boys at Cardinal Hill all right man.

Speaker 13 (35:19):
Let's go all right. Uh so, Uh, I would be
completely out of line if I didn't talk about our
trip to Pittsburgh Keeland. We went to Pittsburgh during the
n CUAA tournament for the actual you know, the Oakland game,
which it's sad to talk about, but I thought, like,
I gotta get off my chest because I'm I'm a
little got a broken heart after that loss. Uh. We

(35:40):
got down there into Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (35:42):
We couldn't get into our airbnb. We should have known
at that moment that we were gonna have issues. We
got in there to the actual arena, it felt like
we got like seats on the Oakland side.

Speaker 6 (35:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (35:56):
Uh, and we were like behind the basket and.

Speaker 14 (35:57):
There was we had a whole row in front of
us of guys who told us that before tip that
they were friends with Jack Golkie.

Speaker 13 (36:03):
Yeah, they said they were best friends with Jack Golkie.
And I was talking about Trey Townsend, That's the one
I was worried about. But they were like, oh yeah,
watch out Jack Golkey, He's about to go crazy. And
I was like, yeah, whatever, well we know what happened. Yeah,
we both got thrown out. But got thrown out of
the game.

Speaker 9 (36:16):
Me and Dani are actually a pretty famous duo in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 13 (36:18):
Yeah, we both got thrown out just because apparently the
Oakland fan was not happy with the well. He was
trying to make a point that we should be nervous
about the game, and I was like, yeah, obviously we were.
And then the guy threatened to throw us out. Obviously,
I think that was on bad grounds for trying to
throw us out. Keilan and I also have some more

(36:39):
beef we gotta settle Keilan. Would you like to tell
him about her?

Speaker 14 (36:42):
So everybody knows the new A college football game coming out.
It's been really big in the news, and me and
Darren have a bit of a personal problem with it.
And we can't decide who is gonna get Kentucky in
our online franchise. And the way we're gonna settle this
is with a one B one driveway balling Aaron's driveway.

Speaker 13 (37:01):
Yeah, my dad called into the pre show and he
mentioned a pretty glaring weakness in your game, and that's
that you're five foot one.

Speaker 14 (37:08):
I'm not five to one on five to five, but yeah.

Speaker 13 (37:11):
Well, I mean I believe my post game should be
able to handle you anywhere. I mean I'm not tall either.

Speaker 9 (37:15):
Let's put out that you're only five to seven.

Speaker 13 (37:16):
Yeah, but I mean I'm tall enough. I mean like
a six a six inch HOI Divana is pretty big,
pretty significantly.

Speaker 9 (37:21):
It's a two inch haide advantage. Okay, whatever, awstin who
you got.

Speaker 6 (37:25):
Between you guys?

Speaker 15 (37:27):
If it's what we talked about earlier, the twelve playing
to twelve I got, I got Darren twelve to twelve
eight man, I'm sorry man, and.

Speaker 9 (37:34):
We have to disagree with your big there all right?

Speaker 13 (37:37):
Uh well, uh that's really the main topics that we
wanted to get out the way. I guess we'll go
to the phone, Shannon, if you're ready to go through
some callers.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yep, you got Noah, Hello, Noah.

Speaker 11 (37:48):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Have you ever thought of doing a show in Oldsborough?

Speaker 14 (37:55):
Well, I don't really don't. We don't really do this
on a day to day basis.

Speaker 15 (37:59):
So yeah, I mean, ow Burro's a great town though,
been there many times. I'm sure at some point they'll
probably go down there. There's some great restaurants down there.

Speaker 13 (38:07):
So have you guys ever been to Owensboro before?

Speaker 1 (38:11):
Oh?

Speaker 13 (38:11):
Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, they they've they've been, They've done Owensboro.

Speaker 9 (38:14):
Ryan's been Borrow.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
So okay, yeah, well, y'all should stop at the Bluegrass Mum.

Speaker 10 (38:21):
Yeah, we have a band called We play there quite often.

Speaker 13 (38:26):
Okay, cool, Well, I appreciate your calling. All right? Uh,
I mean, have you ever been to the Bluegrass Museum? No,
I've never been. I've never been to Osborough either. I've
heard it's really nice though. So.

Speaker 6 (38:39):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (38:40):
Ryan said he went to school there. You went to
school there in I Wasborough? Oh? Okay, Uh, Shannon, who's
up next?

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Let's go to Joe.

Speaker 13 (38:47):
Hello, Joe, Hey, Darren doing a great job.

Speaker 11 (38:51):
When Daryl Murray, the GM of the Rockets, figured out
that three was fifty percent more than two, the game
of basketball kind of change eliminated the big men. What
do you think.

Speaker 10 (39:02):
About making the three point shot worth two and a
half bringing back the big men?

Speaker 11 (39:06):
Would you be in favor of that?

Speaker 13 (39:09):
I don't know about being in favor of that. I
appreciate the call. Uh yeah. I believe not just the Rockets,
but also Steph Curry and his ability to shoot the
basketball from another level of range also push the level
of the importance of three point shooting. Anyways, and I
think it's really helped with.

Speaker 9 (39:25):
The entertainment of the game, giving it fresh.

Speaker 6 (39:27):
But I get the caller's point.

Speaker 15 (39:29):
I do if we could find a way to make
big man once again more prominent league. I think it's
watching the foul calls. Yeah, I think if we could
be a little bit more lenient with people bumping up
against each other, maybe got big guys when be getting
I mean Kat gets in foul trouble all the time. Yeah,
if you watched Wolves, but yeah, maybe a four more
lady with foul calls.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (39:49):
I definitely agree though that it feels like the big
man has died a little bit, or at least the
low post game anyways. I mean, you see players like
Nicole Yokich and Joe El Embiid also they they're still
really good big man in the game, and you know,
you got they.

Speaker 9 (40:06):
Also had the building shoot as well.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Though.

Speaker 14 (40:08):
Yeah, you don't have any big men tradition that are
just only in the post anymore.

Speaker 13 (40:12):
Like players like Andre Drummond used to dominate the game
because they could get twenty boards a game, and now
he's just sort of d He's just another player on
the Bulls at this point. Let's take one more, Shannon.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
All right, let's go to Donnie.

Speaker 8 (40:25):
Hello Donnie, Hey, uh, I guess my question was more
for Matt. But I'll ask you, guys, since he's not
on he was talking about that ruling earlier. You know,
set the precedents and college is having to go back
and pay former players. Wouldn't that also set a precedents
that schools could sue the n c a A and say, hey,

(40:48):
if that's the case, then whenever we've got penalized and
had forfeit games, fourfeit titles, you know, won't that won't
they be able to say that that you've got to
reimburse those If you say that we should have been
able to pay players back, then.

Speaker 9 (41:07):
Yeah, I think you've got a really good you gotta take.

Speaker 8 (41:08):
You got to take both sides of the corn.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Yeah, yeah, I'm saying.

Speaker 14 (41:12):
But like you said, that would be a really good
question for Matt, him having his law backgrounds, Well.

Speaker 5 (41:17):
Let me just say, guys, here I am for a second.
I'll leave that to the side.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Darren.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
Guys, you did an excellent job, Shannon. Let's give him
a round of applause.

Speaker 7 (41:26):
You go, you made it than you did.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
You enjoy it.

Speaker 13 (41:30):
Yeah, it was really fun. Actually, you know, I was
super Billy told me like the first few minutes I
was going to be super nervous, and I definitely was,
but as you know, you just started talking with the boys.
It really that bad.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
Yeah, well, I thought you guys did an excellent job
and I want to thank you for doing it. Draft
kings Ab crushed it. So tell everybody real quick, uh
have you are you guys after doing this? Do you
think you'll have any desire to do a podcast or
something and to get it going?

Speaker 13 (41:57):
But we've always talked about that, you know, just the
boys talking around, you know, at a dinner table or
