Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to this episode of Here's Something Good, a production
of the Seneca Women podcast network and I Heart Radio.
Each day we aspire to bring you the good news,
the silver lining, the glass half full, because there is
good happening in the world everywhere, every day, we just
need to look for and share it. Here's something Good

(00:27):
for Today. At Seneca Women, we like to shine a
spotlight on women owned businesses. Before the pandemic, women were
starting businesses at a faster rate than men, and now
that we're emerging from COVID, women have the potential to
help drive the economy. Today, we're highlighting an amazing company,
a Stelle colored Glass, founded by Stephanie Summerson Hall. Stephanie

(00:49):
has built a luxury brand of handblown colored glass stemware
and cake stands. The glasswork comes in a rainbow of
pastels and jewel tones, and it's made by artisans at
a factory in Poland. With a hundred plus your history,
a Stell colored Glass has been featured in The New
York Times, Vanity Fair, and The Wall Street Journal. We
spoke to Stephanie about her journey starting a family business

(01:12):
and her inspiration for a Stell colored Glass. Here's what
she had to say. Stephanie, thanks so much for joining us.
I'm very honored to be here. A Stell colored Glass
makes beautiful handblown glassware. What makes it so unique? The
brand itself is unique because we offer a liberary of
colors which in one collection, and um, that is something

(01:36):
that's pretty rare. You'll find different companies and brands doing
one color or two colors. That we have number of
colors almost close to twenty nine colors that you can
select from. So that that that's really what makes us
Sunie all in one place. And why is color so important?
Color really makes people happy, and I think that that's

(01:57):
why are because of ours are gravitating towards the pieces.
They're happy, they're cheerful. And from my perspective, in terms
of creating this wide array of colors, um, they were.
The pieces were memorable to me from my childhood because
of the color, and so that was something that resonated
with me in terms of pieces that could be become

(02:21):
heirloom pieces on on in people's homes and and just
kind of spruce up entertaining in our homes. And I
understand that Estelle colored Glass was both named after and
inspired by your grandmother. Tell us about that. I lived
one street over from my grandmother, and I had an
opportunity to accompany her on endlist day trips. She was

(02:44):
an avid shopper. She loved going into antique stores, variety stores,
she loved going to all kinds of places that were
like unique shopping experiences. And so I went along with
her on a number of these treasure hunts, and um,
it was something I did from my young childhood up

(03:07):
until through college. So, um, this was always a part
of your treasure hunting and collecting beautiful pieces to just
play in your home. So that's what our brain is
all about, giving people the colored glassware and cake stands
that will enhance your other whether their heirloom pieces are
just your collection, whatever collection you've curated in your home.

(03:29):
So that's really what we were aiming to do here.
And this is the third family business that you've built
from the ground up. What do you see as the
role of family in entrepreneurship. The role of family is
very important, and UM, you know, it's very important to
consider the dynamics of your family in terms of mixing
family and business. But your experiences are really what give

(03:51):
you an authentic story and and your family of course
is a part of that. So to the extent that
you you can share your authentic self in your your experiences,
that's really what's gonna resonate with your audience. And that
is really what has happened with best Cell Colored Glass.
And I'm really it's kind of a full circle type

(04:12):
of brand for me. Um, I get to discuss my
family heritage and I get, you know, to celebrate my grandmother,
and UM, it's just a wonderful, wonderful, it's so wonderful
to incorporate these things into a brand. You never know
what amazing stories you're gonna learn when you shop from
