Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean onSunny one of six point five the best
variety of the eighties, nineties andtoday. So Joanna she's found our Sunny
story of the day. What shedoes every day at six forty and nine
forty and this one is it's justabout good humans, like just humans doing
good things. And in this caseit's about Mother's Day. Oh, I
love the story so much. Sothere's an elementary school custodian in West Virginia
(00:25):
and she has crocheted more than fivehundred flowers for students to give their moms
on Mother's Day this year. Now, this is a tradition that Sonya Davis,
the custodian at the elementary school inWest Virginia, has done now for
the past four years. She saysthat it's all about bringing joy to kids
(00:45):
and their families. Now, itall started because a little kid four years
back came up to her and askedher for a rose for their mom for
Mother's Day. And she said ittotally broke their you know, her heart
to see a student not be ableto get something for their mom. So
she said that next year she wouldcome back and make sure that every single
kid in the school she works forwould have a flower, a crocheted flower,
(01:10):
to give to their mom. I'mimpressed because, I mean, first
of all, look, it's overfive hundred flowers as she's crocheted. Crocheting,
first of all not easy, likeI don't know how to do it.
Frankly, it makes me wonder howfar, like how early is she
starting before Mother's Day to get towork on these, because that's a lot
of work to do, and ittells you how dedicated she is to doing
it well. She says she spendsmonths at a time creating these beautiful pieces.
(01:34):
This year it was exactly five hundredand fifty pieces of art, which
you know, honestly is so muchbetter than like a live flower, because
this will last forever, right, the moms will always remember this. Now.
You know you were talking and mentioneda little bit earlier that like this
is just about incredible people doing incrediblethings. Well, get this. What's
(01:55):
really incredible is that she also battleswith ampullary cancer, which is a very
aggressive gastro intestinal cancer. So tobe fighting cancer but also go way above
and beyond with your job responsibilities.I mean, this woman, honestly is
a hero. Can I tell youJoanna that it often feels like it's the
people that are battling the most extraordinarycircumstances that are the most generous people on
(02:19):
the planet. I like, Ivividly remember my elementary school custodian. I
don't remember his name, but firstmaybe it's something about custodians. I don't
know what it is, but they'rejust so selfless. I don't know,
they just I don't know how toexplain it. I'm willing to bet that
this custodian is not the highest paidperson in that facility, but the fact
that they're willing to give so muchof their time and energy to others is
(02:43):
just it's just mind blowing. Yeah, I guess all the students at this
school too. Says that she isthe best custodian and helps everybody out.
So if you, you know, are going about your day to day and
you know you work in the school, make sure to give an extra thanks
to your school's custodian because they reallydo go above and beyond. So if
