Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Cody Cast. This is Cody Allen's podcast. Anything
could Happen When we have a Justin Moore on the podcast,
one of my favorite people have to talk to here
on the show. So Justin, what's up, buddy? How are you?
I was just jam of the song here? Why he live? Um? Man,

(00:24):
I mean you were on point. Thank you as my
Justin Moore impersonation. It's pretty good. It's actually it's pretty
good man, pretty fine. I can kick your rast. Um. Yeah,
how you doing this morning? It sounds like you just
rolled out of the bed, or maybe you're just back
from the car pool. I'm actually on the road. I've

(00:45):
been up for two or three four hours because I've
got uh my little boy and my youngest daughter out
here with me, So I've been up a little while.
My son wakes me up about five thirty and goes, hey,
it's morning time. I'm like, it ain't. It ain't quite
time for it to be morning time. Man. That's that's

(01:07):
is Kate out there with you? She's not we actually, um,
my oldest daughter has a softball ternament this weekend, so
she she stuck around and we had my ethanual Boys
and Girls club benefit last night back home, and and
so my little boy's been begging me to go on

(01:28):
the road because he sees his sisters going the row
with me. And every time the bus pulls up to
the house, he goes, Dad, your rides here? Am I
going this time? And so I'm like I finally I say,
all right, buddy, you can go to this event with us,
and we'll raise money, uh and do that whole deal
and then um, and then you you can go this time.

(01:48):
And so anyway, so he's all excited, but now it's
just me and my dad's out here with us to help.
You know, the girls are pretty much old enough things
sit on the side of the stage during the show
and you know, kind of FM for themselves and with
a you know, a couple of folks just keeping an
eye out for him. But we're in downtown Louisville tonight,

(02:09):
and um, outside this little fair kind of deal or
a festival kind of set up, and I'm like, ah,
we might have to get my dad or somebody to
come out and help with with this character downtown here.
So anyway, I was seeking you need a little bit
of help because um, you know, you're obviously working so um,

(02:29):
and then I feel like I would not get to
sleep because the high you come off of when you
leave the stage, I mean, it sticks around probably a
couple of hours. So therefore you're in bed if you're
lucky by midnight. Yeah. So that's the thing. You know,
you know it. You've been around it as much or

(02:49):
more than me over the years. Um, you're exactly right.
When you come off the stage, used to have all
this adrenaline pumping through you. That's that's abite. The most
difficult thing to do is to to dial that back
down and get sleepy. To be honest with you, Let's see,
let's talk about the song with the Woman you Love,
which I think it's gonna be your eleventh number one.

(03:11):
They just keep coming for you, one right after another. Um,
what do you remember, by the way, we didn't have much?
Was your tenth number one? So going back to the
first number one, which was it? I can't remember? It?
Was it small town Us? Yeah? It was it was.
What do you remember about that moment? And is it
the same now or is it better now? Because you've

(03:33):
you know, you've persevered, You've made it year after year.
You still have a career going yeah, No, I mean
that's a really good point. Um when you look back
now and you go, gal, I guess I've really actually,
you know, did this, uh and have duped guys like
you and radio for long enough that I think I'm

(03:53):
gonna get away with this whole this whole charade and
not every and not ever have to get a real
job was just insanity. Um. But no, as far as
small town man, it was. It was like a a
forty eight week record or something like that. And I
know that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense

(04:16):
to two fans out there listening, but you and I know,
that's just a really really long record. And we lost
the bullet, which is another uh you know term that
we use in the biz um, which means it's not
good for the artist that let me put it, or
the song, so that that song looked dead in the
water and a number of times and it just kind

(04:36):
of was the the little engine that kept chugging along
and then obviously became a big record for us. And
you know, back in those times, I know, you know, um,
you know, you got one or two songs out there
and if they flopped, you got dropped, you know, nowadays,
labels will stick with you through you know, albums. Back then,

(04:59):
it really wasn't like that. So if you missed two
or three in a row, um it was it could
have been you know, see you. And so you know,
certainly fortunate that that did not happen. And here we
are this all these years later, and yeah, it's it's
pretty amazing to look back on and know that that

(05:19):
we've had the uh, the great fortune of having all
these hit records as for sure. By the way, it's
good to be in Arkansas razorback right now, isn't it. Yeah,
it's been really except with the exception of last week
we got our teeth kicked in by Georgia, but I
think that's expected. Yeah, it was. They may be the

(05:39):
best thing in the country. You know. Obviously Alabama is
still ranked number one, and for great good reason. But man,
I was on the sideline watching and they whipped our
tel on the line of scrimmage, I mean every single play.
I mean it was just it was unreal. Man. Those
are grown, grown men on that line of image for

(06:00):
those guys, and they're well coached and but but yeah,
it's been it's been a really fun season for US
so far. You know, I don't I don't think that
really a whole lot of people outside of maybe, uh,
the guys in our program, I don't think they anticipated us, um,
you know, winning some games that we've won, especially in

(06:21):
the fashion that we've won them, and you know, to
be ranked in the country right now on four and
one with a chance really to I mean, every goal
is out there in front of you if you just
can get back on the winning side of the plan.
So yeah, it's been fun. Man, We've just been a
it's been a long, hard nine years for us. Good
at night. It's been wrong. You're like my South Carolina Gamecox.

(06:45):
I grew up in Columbia, soap Um. I was always
a fan growing up. And uh, and they've never really
they've really never had like a great year. So well,
they had three in a row in or Spurrier where
they won like thirty plus games. Well fine, but we
really never made it to any major bowl there was really,
I mean, we're like the outback ball or something. I
maybe before I die, you think preaching to the choir brother,

(07:08):
That's what I'm saying. Arkansass so much like like the
game Cocks that you've waited so long for this moment.
You know. Yeah, they're really similar man that you know,
we you guys and and us. We've had you know
what I considered pretty pretty dagging good years. I know,
we've made it to the SEC championship I think three times.
And what's interesting, we never want it. But um, what's

(07:31):
interesting is Arkansas and Carolina came into the SEC the
same year. So there's a really a lot of similarities.
You know, they have good years and usually pretty salty teams,
but just have never gotten over the major hump like
like you're talking about. But yeah, we that's good. You
can pull for us over in the West and we'll

(07:51):
pull for you all over in the East since since
we're um, we're so similar. Yeah, well, it's only you
get worse now with excess in Oklahoma, and it's just
gonna be harder and harder, I think. But anyway, let's
get back to the music, which is why we're here, right,
Is that why we're here? Be honest with you. Every
time I say that I gotta call you, I'm going
wine the hell am I even doing? Man, I don't

(08:14):
know why we're here. Well, in all seriousness, I do
want to say, the reason you keep succeeding year after year,
hit after hit is because you have really good songs.
You know how to write a great country lyric and
I think your songs like rock as well. You know
how to just add the right amount of punch to them. All.
I don't appreciate. I don't know what I love more

(08:35):
picking on you or hearing the music you put out.
One of the it's one of the two. It's definitely
the former. Uh. We're pretty good at giving it back
and forth to each other. Yeah, so with the woman
you love, Um, obviously no to your wife, Kate. Tell
him about writing this one. Yeah, I had the title.
I forgive where the title came from. I think I

(08:57):
was driving around or something, um, and and heard the
line of that from another old song or something. I
thought that'd be a good title, and and so yeah,
you know, shared the idea with with the co writers
that I was writing with that day. Uh, Paul di Giovanni,

(09:19):
Chase McGill, and Jeremy Stober and three of the four
of us were married at the time, and I believe
Paul was just about to get married, and uh, and
it just kind of took me back to I was
the first one of my group of friends to get married,
and you know, years ago, and and of course you

(09:40):
got all your buddies going, man, why do you want
to do that? And now you're gonna be You're gonna
be whole, you know, sleeping with a little dog and
and missing football games to go to the mall and
you know, all these stereotypical and notions, and uh, it
just kind of made me laugh. And so, you know,

(10:00):
but in all sincerity, m what you learn is, you know,
when you find your partner in crime. Um, you know,
in my case, Kate, it's like, well, yeah, I mean
you'll you'll do those things and and do it with
a smile if you really truly love them. We just
celebrate our fourteenth year wedding anniversary, so uh, it kind

(10:20):
of was ironic that the song came out right around
the same time. But but yeah, it's hopefully it does
well for us. And we haven't had a love song
out there, I think since somebody else will, which is
longer back than you realize. You know, it was probably
three or four years ago, so I guess it was
time for I like this got a little bumped to

(10:41):
it as well. It's not like a ballad, you know,
it's not a love song, so like emotional and heart stringy,
which um, those are great too, but there's something about
this one that's got a little uh you know, a
little beat, which is good. Yeah. Yeah, it's just still
a good tempo uh tune. So do you remember your
single days? Can you look back in what would what
was that like? Yeah? You know, I really haven't been

(11:02):
single ever, I can't. I kind of was one of
those guys went right from one relationship ship to another.
And so my you know, Kate and I have been
together oh me, uh since so too? And so it
really never you know, happened too awful, too off off,
too much, I should say, so, yeah it was. I

(11:25):
guess I'm a relationship guy. I guess what is one
thing you will you do for the woman you love
you wouldn't do for anyone else? You mentioned like going
to the mall? Do you find yourself at Dillard's every
once in a while, or is there a show she
makes you watch? Or what is the thing that you
have to endure? Well? I used to. I used to

(11:47):
fight the h all, the housewive uh TV shows like
you Gotta Turn this crap off and now I'm just like,
I give up. I just like, it's whatever, I just
leave it. U um. And then you find yourself sucked
into it even though you don't want to be. You know,

(12:07):
but that and the animals um all over our house
and I mean they just said everywhere. I mean, hell,
I've got a cat sleeping with me now and it
wakes me up every morning at five thirty. It was
this little jingle bell collar thing and so that that's
that's somewhat infuriating, but it is what it is. I

(12:29):
do picture you, like with the TV on in the background,
doing some dishes, kids running around and asking Kate like,
do we know what happened to Derita? Are they back together?
See her husband? Yeah? Yeah? And I'm and then before
you know what, I'm going, whoa, I don't care about this,
I mean asking, Uh, it's so funny your wife, Your

(12:52):
wife would qualify for Real Housewives of Arkansas if that
works to be a thing. Um, yeah, you know, I
just that may be where I draw the line, Cody
should be. Honestly, we can we can keep keeping on
TV because again that's a battle I have not one
in years, and I ain't. It doesn't look like I'm

(13:13):
going to but putting the cameras in our house. Um,
although it would be entertaining. Yeah, there's no doubt about that.
I think that maybe where I have to draw the
line in the sand. Well, let me wrap here because
of nobody taken up a lot of your time and
you've got things to do here way too much. Um,

(13:34):
let's see who you calling next? By the way, who
who's on the lineup? I don't know. I didn't even look.
It's a festival. I've got promote station. Maybe one of
the station who knows? I have no idea? Okay, good,
I'm glad you. I'm really on top of them. Yeah, obviously. Um,
you do seem the national anthem from time to time.
I know you sing it recently, and I can imagine
that there are moments I would think, as you're standing

(13:57):
there and hearing the weird echo back in the speakers,
that you feel like you might forget the words. How
tense is that moment? And take me there and tell me, um,
have you had that fear? Oh? Yeah, I think anybody,
if you gave them, uh, any artist truth serum, I
think they would admit that wholeheartedly. Um, it's it is.
It's intimidating. And the thing I've always um mentioned the

(14:21):
people in regard to the anthem is that it's kind
of a no win proposition. If you do it correctly,
uh you know, Okay, you're supposed to a good job.
If you mess it up, you're like, uh, you know,
you know, it's gonna live on the internet forever. Yeah,
It's it's kind of like throwing out the first page.

(14:43):
You know. It's like if you throw it down to
pump a strike in there, it's like, allright, cool and
if you if you if you don't, if you hit
the umpire or something, um, then you're then your own
sports centers, not top ten and it lives forever. But
but yeah, you know, I've done it a number of times,

(15:03):
whether it be you know, baseball games and football games
and all that stuff. And I actually recently started doing
it a little bit in Our Lives show every now
and then because I don't know what to attribute this too.
But it's cool that a lot of our shows, um,
and for some reason, the crowd will just start chanting USA, USA,

(15:25):
And then I used to just kind of walk up
to the bike and like pump my fist and go, yeah,
that's awesome USA, And so I thought, what can I do?
And so a lot of times now I just I
just go into the anthem. But it's a lot easier
to sing it at the show, you know, when the
voice has already warmed up, and you know we have
our ears on and that kind of stuff than it
is and in the stadium, like you mentioned, with all

(15:47):
the slap back and delay and all that stuff. So
I don't know if I answered the question, but I
just rambled for a while. Yeah you did. I forgot
what I asked. Actually, uh, real quick. I want to
be on your podcast. It's um so invite me sometime
and yeah, man, anytime. I know we've we've discussed in
the past, but we really do need to make that happen.

(16:10):
You have a book. It's a lot of fun I'm
trying to promote. Oh there you go. So, um, well,
let's get it on the books. Okay, we have your
people call my people and we'll we'll work that out. Um, listen,
have a great day. I'm so excited. Your your sons
with you for the day and you'll have fun out there.
And then Louisville. That's gonna be perfect tonight, Like it's
the weather is great right now, So yeah it is.

(16:34):
It's a really cool little downtown street festival series that
they do called four Street Live, and we've done in
a number of times. So yeah, it'd be nice day. Well,
I think we're gonna go check out the zoo and
then uh they come back and play a play a
country show. Should be a good day. That sounds awesome.
Do you sing I could kick your ass when your

(16:54):
son's on the side of the stage or in your kids?
Does it make it tense at all? I do, but
I give an example that it does somewhat. This is
proves I think that I'm maturing some cody um that, uh,
at least crosses my mind should I? And then I
go ahead and do it, But at least it crosses

(17:15):
my mind. We played I told you we did a
charity event last night, and there's a lot of kids there,
my preachers there and his wife, and I'm going and
then should I do this? And then I know the
fans are gonna be man if I don't, So I
just kind of did it, and I'll have to Sunday
when I see you at church. I'll just have to,
you know, apologize, but I love it all right. We

(17:39):
all have a good day. Thanks for the call, you know.
I love you. Take care and my best to your family. Hey, likewise, brother,
appreciate you seriously. I'll text you here short and we'll
try to get something on the books. All right, sounds great,
