Live from the R and R FoundationSpecialist Broadcast Studio. Now back to Softie
and Dick on your Home for theHuskies and the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJR FM. I playanything they need me to play. I'm
gonna go out van dominate regardless. So then I just played a lot of
White Guard in College Way. Iplayed any edition they named me to play.

(00:21):
Christian, how did you describe yourgame? I come, I hear
this morning, nacket the thing notsomebody's very athletic. You might be able
to run up or dominate at thepoint at that. You know who that
is right there, big boy,Christian Haynes. That is the voice of
Christian Haynes, the Seahawks newest offensivelineman out of Connecticut and joining us right
now on the radio show for thefirst time since he took the leap of

(00:45):
faith to leave the bosom of Montlakeand the comfortable surroundings of Husky football to
take a chance and take his talentsto the vMac in Renton, Washington for
the first time in his life. Our friend Scotti Huff gets a chance to
work with the pros, and he'swith us right now on the radio show,
Scott, how are you, man? What's going on? I'm doing

(01:06):
great? How are you doing?Softy good Man? It's great to hear
your voice. Dick Fane is hereas well, obviously, but give us
first of all, you know Ilike Dick Way more than I like you.
No, I know you do.By the way, context please back
context context, Give us your thoughts, Give us your thoughts on what the

(01:27):
last couple of months, man, have been like for you. You go
to Alabama, you're on your wayto Alabama. You think you're going to
Alabama to work with Kaitlyn Debor andthen Ryan Grubb comes calling, You get
the Seahawks job, You go backto Seattle. Give us a take and
what the last three four months havebeen like for you? Men? It's
been crazy, but at the endof the day, it's worked out unbelievable

(01:49):
and I feel really blessed and excitedabout where we are right now. And
so all's well, that ends well, and it's great to be still in
Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. Whatwas that brief time in Alabama? Like
any stories you can tell us,because I'm sure it's just foreign to anything
we're used to up here. Imet roll Tide, Willie. You know
that was that was pretty much thehighlight right there. What what about the

(02:15):
NFL have you noticed that is differentfrom what you were able to deal with
in college football? I mean, just kind of dive into the way things
are done at this level. Youhaven't coached a game yet, so you'll
find out more in September and Weekone against Denver, But just give us
your thoughts on the facilities, giveus your thoughts on the way things work
in the NFL versus what you've beenused to in college football. Well,

(02:38):
you know, the players are obviouslyolder. We're not dealing with nil and
the transfer portal, which is youknow, a positive thing in my mind,
at least for where I'm at rightnow. It's really cool working for
the Seahawks. The alignment in thisorganization's unbelievable, and you feel like again,
just feel really lucky and blessed tobe here. And we got a

(02:59):
you know, a great young headcoach with Mike McDonald and just a bunch
of great guys to be around, and it's everything that you could ever hope
for, at least up to thispoint right now. So it's been really,
really exciting and a lot of fun. Can you talk about the process
that got you to the vMac.I mean, do they call you and
Ryan separately or do they call him? He says, you know, I'll

(03:21):
take the job, but I wantthis guy, Scott Huff over here to
be with me. Like, howdoes that all work? Uh? You
know, I probably don't know allthe ins and outs of how it all
shook down, but I know, you know, obviously at the end of
the day, you know, coachGrubb had done a great job at Washington,
and and you know, he obviouslyhad some relationship with somebody over here,
and I was lucky enough to geta phone call and to get an

(03:46):
interview, and here I am,Well, Scott Huff is with us,
and Scott, you know, thelast time you and I spoke on the
record was actually in person at thesuper Dome in New Orleans before the Texas
game. And then boom, youwake up and you're the offensive line coach
of the Seahawks. So I kindof feel like we haven't even really had
a chance to kind of put abow on what you guys did at Washington

(04:08):
before everything blew up and cabin tookoff for Alabama. So before we talk
about what you got going on withthe Seahawks and everything happening over there with
the OTA is coming up, justgive us your thoughts on what you guys
did a year ago. Man,Joe Moore Award winning offensive line, Troy
fought Toda was obviously in the NFL. Rosen Gartens in the NFL. You
got two guys, actually three guysright now in the SEC for God's sakes,

(04:29):
best offensive line in school history. When you think about what you accomplished
last year, man, what goesthrough your mind? Uh, not to
be a downer, but I justthink about not being able to win the
national championship. To be totally honestwith you, that aside, very feel
very fortunate to have worked, youknow with those guys that you just mentioned,
with the Troy's, the Rogers, the Parkers, the Nates, the

(04:53):
Julius, the Hatchet brothers, youknow, just great, great young men
and feel really fortunate to go spenda lot of good time with them.
And so it's like, you know, it's like everything else, it's always
about relationships and choosing people and andwe were really lucky to have a lot
of really great people there last yearat at Washington. Well, there's a

(05:15):
lot of us, including me,that thought Troy Falutana would be an awesome
fit for your offensive line here andhe didn't end up coming here. But
what type of input were you ableto give John Schneider about your Husky players
Rose and Garden Feltana. I thinkit. I think you know, the
personnel department does an amazing job overhere, and that was really cool to
see first time going through the draft, and man, that the research that

(05:39):
they do and the digging and thequestions. I mean, they are so
thorough. It is it's hats offto them and all the work that they
do year after year. You know, there was a lot of guys that
got drafted right from the from theWashington team last year, and so I
think, you know, they theylistened to everything that everybody had to say.
They you know, at the endof the day, they were trying
to find the best fit for wherethis team was at. And I just

(06:04):
think that we did a great jobin the draft and address some issues that
that that needed to be addressed andjust again, man, just super excited.
Yeah, I want to ask youabout the two guys you got in
the draft. In a second. And then about the guys you have now
in Seattle. But do you feellike Scotty that you need to change your
approach as a coach from dealing withcollege kids to dealing with professionals. Does

(06:28):
your style you think need to changeat all? I mean, I don't.
I don't think so. I mean, like, I think the number
one thing you got to be isyou got to be true to yourself,
right, can't be fake regardless ofwhat you're doing. And so I'm going
to be me and they're going tobe them. And and so far everything's
been I think it's been really positive. And so I'm I'm just super fired

(06:49):
up about working with these guys.Let's talk about the two guys you got
in the draft. First of all, Christian Haynes, third round out of
Yukon. Jim Mora was on ourshow Scott in the Monday after the draft
often he was just drooling about thiskid. So tell us about Christian Haynes.
And then le Maya, who yousaw a little big You didn't go
head to head against him, obviously, but you saw some tape on him
from from Utah. Yeah, soChristian, you just pop on the tape

(07:13):
and you just love his style ofplay. I mean, I think that
was the thing that really stood outto me. And he's he's he's a
physical player and he plays that wayand he looks to finish. And I
mean any old line coach in thecountry would be happy to have that that
mentality and uh, and so thatthat was the biggest thing with him,
was just was just the style ofplay. And uh yeah, I mean

(07:36):
and so far, you know,we're just getting a chance to work with
them and get them try to youknow, get the offense installed. And
I mean there's just so much stuffyou got to get caught up. But
Everything's been really positive with him sofar, and I'm really excited to work
with him. And yeah, andI'm sorry with Satwa again. He was

(07:56):
a guy that we I knew comingout of high school. Uh. He
was at Eisenhower High School down inthe i E. There. We had
had Ryan Chlady at Boise State abunch of years ago that came out of
that same high school. And thenRonnie Lotostel came out of that high school,
if I'm not mistaken, and hejust did a great job at Utah.
I mean, he was a guythat that you know, we got
a lot of respect for that programand how their style of play. That

(08:20):
was a tape that we'd always wantto watch every week if we could.
And he did a good job playingtackle there for him, he played he
played some guard too earlier in hiscareer, and so we feel really really
fortunate to have him, excited towork with him. And then the other
guy that you're forgetting about is MikeDorrel from Finlay High School or excuse me,
Family College in Ohio. And he'sanother guy that was kind of flying

(08:43):
under the radar a little bit,uh, and we got to see him
and and man, he's he's gotsome twitch, he's got some some power.
Got to see him in the HulaBowl, and so we feel really
fortunate to have him as well. And and he's got some position for where
he could be a tackling a guardand so we feel really fortunate to have

(09:03):
those three guys. And you know, again, compliments to our personal department
for for making those guy Seahawks.Well. One of my favorite Huskies over
the last decade is without question,Nick Harris. And he signed a month
after you got there. How instrumentalwere you bringing him back. I mean,
I don't want to. I don'twant to act like I got power

(09:24):
that I don't have. I mean, you know, again, we're trying
to get the best players we can. And you know, Nick was a
guy that's obviously that I'm obviously familiarwith, and his name came up and
I'm like, wow, this isa great dude. You know, he's
a he's a great player, andso you know, it all worked out
and would just again feel very fortunateto have him in the organization. Well,

(09:46):
I'm curious, Scott against Scott Huffis with us on the radio show,
and I gotta be honest with you. For about a half a second,
I was about to start talking toyou about the Husky offensive line and
what they're looking like for next year. I gotta remember you're with the Seahawks,
for God's sakes. But let's talkabout George Fann. Because George f
was an undrafted free agent a fewyears ago, played basketball at Western Kentucky
and then turned into a football playerand has done pretty damn good for himself.

(10:07):
So give us a take on howyou see George fitting in with this
offensive line. Yeah, Well, you know what's funny is when George first
came to Seattle, he was workingwith the guy that's one of my was
one of my mentors, Howard Muddrip So, and so there was you
know, handful occasions where George actuallycame over with Howard over to the University

(10:28):
of Washington and so I really kindof got to know him a little bit
over there. And then uh again, you know, just fortunate enough that
the personnel department got him back overhere. And I mean he's you know,
he played, uh he played alot last year for Houston at right
tackle. He's played you know, the jumbo tight end position, he's played
left tackle. So I mean he'sa guy that that you just feel super

(10:52):
super lucky to have in the organization. You know, we'll see, we'll
see at the end of the dayhow it all fits together other but you
can't you can't have enough of thoseguys that are smart, you know,
athletic, long, they can play, they could play a lot of different
spots. So really excited about Georgia. Well, Scott abe Lucas is a
guy that you had to play againstfor a lot of years over at Washington

(11:16):
State, and now he's your righttackle. How's he doing physically, and
what do you expect from him thisyear? As Abbs an awesome dude again,
another guy like you just mentioned thatwe got to admire from Afar.
Uh, you know, again competingagainst him. You know, I can't
talk about injuries, but Abe's studand he's working his tail off. Yeah.
Has Big o'lu rubbed it in yourface yet the Michigan game? And

(11:39):
if he does, we then turnaround and take out your frustrations on Abe,
Lucas and the Apple Cups. Ithas been great. He can't really
claim it if if we're being honest, I mean, he was only there
for one year, so he's moreVirginia than anything. But uh, you
know, we drafted AJ Barner andso that you know that was maybe me

(12:00):
My first sniper comment at him wasyou know, you got a lot to
prove to make me like it rightnow. So there you go. I
love it, Yeah, I loveit. Yeah, it's good stuff.
It's all good. I guess thebiggest question is now that you're the Seahawk
offensive line coach and you're gonna upgradeyour NBA jam and big Buck Hunter machines
and your family room or or dothose stay there. Uh, you forgot

(12:20):
NFL Blitz as well. The nextone, the next one, the next
one. We got to get hisgolden tea. That's the original right there
for me. Yeah, love it. Well, you can afford it now,
man, no question. Don't saythat you don't know nothing about what
I got going on. I gotI spend more time at the Little League

(12:41):
baseball field, or as much timeas I can right now. So shout
out the Wooden Bill Little League. There you go. I love it.
Hey, dude, We're proud ofyou. Man. I can't wait to
see at the vMac walking around,uh, bumping into you during practice and
looking forward to getting this thing goingin September. So congratulations dude. Awesome
stuff and we'll talk down the road. Man. Thanks Scott, all right,
see you, Dick Fane, You'reyou're the favorite. Later, softy

(13:05):
whatever, get out of here.Scott Hoff with US new Seahawks offensive line
coach. Got he's a great dude. He is a great just one of
the good guys in football, man, and so fired up for him and
grub over at the Seahawks. We'regonna break three forty. Little fun with
