You're listening to Bill Handle on demandfrom KF I am six forty. I
love rack of lamb. That's offthe menu now now it's rack of mutton.
It's just what. It's gone badas it. Every place is serving

(00:22):
hagis, hagas and manudo are theonly things. Yeah, man, yeah,
and even that's become way expensive. And now Handle on the news,
ladies and gentlemen. Here's Bill Handle, and good morning. It is a
Thursday, May sixteen. Week isalmost over, and then we have the

(00:46):
following week. Everybody loves Friday.I don't because it's that much closer to
Monday. And hey, what canI tell you? Everything is just closer,
you know. That's why I justcan't stand any time anything ends,
because it's just closer, closer toand it starts all over again. Oh

(01:06):
right, let me say hello toone and all, starting with you Cono,
good morning, yes, so boooh, excellent, pretty good Amy.
Happy Thursday, Bill, Happy Thursday. Why am I not? I
don't know? Yeah, I don'tknow either. An I just saw you
eating. You should be happy. You just finished breakfast. I did.
I had barbecue chicken this morning becauseI had I had lunch with Carlos of

(01:30):
Advanced Roofing Systems yesterday and we andI called him directly. You pick up
the phone and you're going to talkdirectly to Carlos. And so we had
lunch and I talked directly to Carlosacross the table. In any case,
I had the barbecue chicken and smokehouse, and unfortunately I ate a whole order

(01:51):
of garlic bread. So I hadtwo bites of my barbecue chicken. So
I brought it in this morning.Totally worth it. So their garlic bread
is the best. I have somehere. It's a proper way to do
it. I have some here, all right. And then Neil, good
morning, Neil. A little bitunder the weather? Yeah, I still
trying to shake this frut broadcasting athome today. What do they get that
phrase under the weather? I've alwayswondered about that. It has to do

(02:13):
with boats. Under the weather meantwhen you'd be staying down the captain or
whomever would be staying down beneath inthe inside the boat, the lower part
of the boat. I believe thatthey were under the weather. I think
it's a maritime reference. A lotof those phrases are maritime resid references.

(02:36):
I think you're right, But yes, you're correct on that. If your
faith for those feelings sick, theygo below deck. Yeah, so they're
under the weather. Okay, okay, why not? You know we have
to we have to do one ofthose segments and on phrases you know where
we get those, because there's somereally good ones out there that make absolutely
no sense. Just fell off theturnip truck. I someone once told me

(02:57):
how that works, because I don'tknow. Drunk is a skunk? Yeah?
Yeah, where do you get that? Well? You know ships three
sheets to the wind? Being drunkis also a maritime reference because it means
you're leaning to one side. Allright. You can lead a horse to

(03:17):
water, but you can't lead ahortic culture. Okay, we might have
trouble of finding the origin of thatone. No, no, we won't.
We just look right at you.Can we just get a therapist in
one day and do three hours ofthem asking you questions? Sure, so

(03:37):
great, just to hear them go. So, why don't you like Thursdays
because they're close to Fridays and Fridaysare close to Mondays. Yeah that's true,
all right? As usual, asusual, we have a bunch of
stuff going up and on, solet me see all these stories hanging out.
We're moving stories a little bit.Steve Gregory joining us for two segments

(04:00):
today because Joel is on a fieldtrip with his what third grade daughter?
Well, why would you ever goon a field trip with Because he's a
good dad. I would. Yeah, right, fine, I just don't
get that. What's not to getHe loves his children, Yeah, I
don't understand that, participating in theirlives. Ye. I don't understand that

(04:23):
either. He almost missed one ofour segments a few weeks ago because he
was walking his daughter to school. Not sweet. He's a good man.
Yeah, it's fine, that's fine. Okay. By the way, just
a real quick story before we getto handle on the news is Marjorie would
take the kids to school when theywere really young, starting kindergarten, and

(04:47):
they would She would listen to ituntil the day Pamela said to Marjorie,
Mommy, what stood mean? Boomradio off for the next three years.
Okay, let's do it, guys. You ready handle on the news on
this Thursday morning with Amy King underthe weather, Neil and Me lead story.

(05:15):
Yeah, some more protesters. Thisis U see Irvine. They cleared
the police cleared the encampment, abouta dozen demonstrators, and they're screaming the
vest, the vest, We won'trest, you know what, go ahead
and divest. Now, what arethey gonna do. It's not gonna do
anything. Okay, matter of fact, they if I were a university president,

(05:39):
goes, sure, we'll divest. You know, the prices are a
little low right now, so we'regonna wait until we get a good price
for our stock. But sure, why not? Then what do they do?
What do they do with that?So let them camp by the way,
if they camp on private property, you clear the encampments, which is
exactly what they're doing. And they'rescreaming peaceful demonstrations, peaceful demonstrations. That's

(06:03):
all I'm hearing. Breaking into buildingsis peaceful demonstrations, stopping students from going
into class, peaceful demonstrations. Youknow what I heard yesterday? Bill,
that was very cool. Corbyn Carson, our very own Corbyn Carson was out
there and he said a woman whowas being arrested was screaming information about her

(06:24):
husband, trying to say, somebodycalled my husband and let him know I'm
getting arrested. And the way CorbynCarson told the story was that the cop
heard her and started to repeat theinformation to the other people on the other
side so that they could get itto her husband. Okay, you just

(06:45):
don't normally hear I mean everyone wantsto bash cops. I just thought that
was a nice story. Did hedo it between the beatings with his baton?
Stopped for a minute and made thephone call? Very nice? Thank
you? Yeah. Every time heread back the number clocked her in the
head. Yeah. Yeah, youwonder why I'm not a cop. You're
what they call a glass, aglass full of poison type guy. Let's

(07:12):
get ready to rumble. President Bidenformer President Trump have one thing that they
agree on. They're going to debate. The two debates have been scheduled.
Biden, of course, came outyesterday and said, hey, Donald,
let's do a debate, and thenDonald Trump fired back and said, okay,
let's do it. So they quicklyagreed to it. One's going to
be on CNN, the other one'sgoing to be on ABC, and they're

(07:36):
gonna they're gonna have some different rulesfor this one, so it could be
interesting. We were just talking toStephen Portnoy about it. There's gonna be
no audience. They're gonna apparently mutemicrophone, which makes sense because Trump did
nothing but interrupt over and over andover again the last debate in twenty twenty,

(07:56):
previously the twenty twenty debate, orat the previously elect at the twenty
twenty debate, Joe, but ifyou're not a Trump fan, apparently it
didn't play well for him. Idon't think it's going to play well,
and that's good for that. CNNis going to no audience, which is
great because then you don't have allthat crazy reaction, the cheering, the
clamping, yeah, the stacking ofall of that, and also cutting off

(08:20):
the mics. And I can't wait, because I'll tell you what's going to
happen Trump is it's going to benothing but personal attacks. There will not
be much policy on behalf of Trumpand you know, cooka Joe and just
just doing it over and over again, talking about the size of Biden's swonts
like he did with Marco Rubio. And I think it's going to go and

(08:41):
I'm hoping Joe Biden says, thereyou go, there you go again Donald.
Now, let's talk about the issues. Personal attack, got it?
I understand, you know what youthink of me. Now let's talk about
the issues. You know what,BALI because of their age, you know
what I think they should do.They should put them on stage, put
a mic wave ofn that doesn't havethe proper time on it, and whoever

(09:03):
can set the time the quickest wins. Yeah. I think you're dealing with
two old guys. Well, butthe perception is is that Joe Biden is
much older, and he is actuallymuch older than Trump, even though there's
there's a bigger difference than just thefour years. And Joe Biden does have

(09:24):
a hard time speaking, is justnot an orator, and that's important.
I mean, what does that haveto do with actually governing the United States?
You know, he overcame this incrediblestuttering problem Biden did as a young
man, as a youngster. Imean, you know, he's you know,
on that level. I like himpolicy wise, way too liberal for
me. Come on, stop aguy, all right. Donald Trump's former

(09:46):
fixer Michael Cohen is back on thestand today for another day of cross examination,
and this is of course shaping upas not only some of the most
fun content, but also a crucialchapter and the first criminal trial of a
former president done. Yeah. Sotoday Michael Cohen is up there and the

(10:07):
defense attorney's going to try to ripinto him, and they may be over
overreacting on this. They may beoverreaching, and I think they are the
defense I mean just uh Cohen putup a post talking about the defense attorney
Trench and he did, and Trancesaid, didn't you post calling me a

(10:28):
little? And then the yes,can I can I quote the n N
is quoting that I'm watching that onthe screen, you can quote that in
that contact. Okay, there wego. Unplugged me. No, he
won't do it because he's the onethat gets in trouble. I'm not in
management anymore. So yeah. Yeah, So anyway, I called him and

(10:50):
didn't you call me a little?Yes? Uh? And uh he said,
uh, well yeah I did,and he really punched on that word.
Okay, what does that have todo with anything? Cohen thinks that
you know, you you think theother side is always It was the theatrics

(11:13):
that got me. When they walkedin with the fire Extingo shirt in case
Cohen's pants were on fire, Iknow, just come on and Cohen is
just you know, don't you hateDonald Trump? Yeah? I do.
Don't you want to see him injail? Yes? I do. And
he had talked about how Donald Trumpturned on him and basically left him hanging

(11:41):
and loyalty and a shocker that hewants Donald Trump in prison. Okay,
what does that have to do withwhat was said? What does that have
to do with the underlying case? And he's trying to attack the credibility.
Now, aren't you a liar?Weren't you committed? And this is the
other thing, weren't you didn't yougo to prison for perjury? Yeah,

(12:01):
well you're a liar? Yeah? Why'd you lie to protect Trump? That's
why I lied? That's the hardthing. Doesn't that prove the case?
I think it doesn't hurt help thedefense, that's for sure. And Cohen
is calm and he is answering allthe questions. And I think there's a

(12:24):
lot of overreaching on the defense side. All right, we'll talk more about
that because Cohen's on the stand rightnow. Actually, the former owner of
the Dodgers may have his sights seton TikTok Frank. The court says he's
laying the groundwork to acquire TikTok aspart of a broad initiative to make a
healthier Internet, as he calls it. He has spent years accusing technology giants

(12:48):
of exploiting their users and undermining theoriginal open vision for the Internet. So
he says, this is an opportunityto rewire how social media works. You
know, go ahead, Bill.He is so unliked total Frank McCourt that
I think I think Biden's administration willcome back. Go now. We'd rather

(13:09):
have China Yanks. It's interesting ofwhat what the price is TikTok going to
go for. If there's a biddingwar, it'll do just fine. If
no one bids, the price isgoing to collapse and someone's going to pick
it up at firewall, at firefire wall, fire price, fire sales.
Yeah, fire sales. I knewthat. And it's so we'll see

(13:31):
because either they sell it or theyjust shut it down. And when you
don't function, it's really hard tosell a service that is not working or
is not allowed to work. SoU and he's an interesting guy. Frank
mccordy is, you know, nota stupid businessman. Bought the Dodgers for
a few million dollars, sold itfor two billion dollars and kept the parking

(13:52):
lot. Yeah that's weird. Yeah, I mean smart, but that's exactly
all right. Russian Russia's President VladimirPutin arrived to day in Beijing, two
day state visit to China, andof course this is just a show of
unity. Look, hey, goodbuddies. Uh, look at us,

(14:13):
Look at us, two big controllersand they two dictators. Uh, look
at us. You know, formalstate visit. And during the course of
it he said, SURA will negotiate. We're open to a dialogue on Ukraine.
Well, yeah, here's the dialogue. We're going to take eastern Ukraine.
Congratulations. And then they went outin the backyard and did skeet shooting

(14:35):
with actual Russians and Ukraine Chinese.Yeah, they just pull Yeah, it's
now. It's going to be atsome point a negotiated peace. I mean,
unless the war just goes on andon, like the Vietnam War,
like the Afghanistan War with Russia forten eleven years till Russia pulled out and

(14:56):
we pulled out of Afghanistan because wewere there for years, and the Vietnam
War, we were there for elevenyears, so I'm hoping it doesn't go
that far. Let's do one morebefore the before we take a break.
Locking your doors may not be enoughif you live in the valley. The
San Fernando Valley has seen auto thefts, I'm going to say skyrocket nearly thirty

(15:18):
percent this year compared to last year. Six hundred and eight more vehicles were
stolen this year over last. Yeah. Well, and when you think it's
only six hundred in the valley wherewe are between January on April twenty one
over almost twenty four hundred. Almosttwenty four hundred that's in from January to

(15:39):
April. What is that three months? So that is effectively twelve thousand in
the valley that you'll see this year. If the numbers keep on going like
this, no consequences. I thinkit's incentive. Yeah, yeah, should
be the death penalty. You getcaught with a car, Okay, first
time it's twenty five years. Okay, I'll get you on that one.

(16:00):
Same thing with graffiti, second timeout. Okay, there's the gas chamber.
No, what you do is yousay to bad we don't have a
gas chamber anymore. When we catchyou you have to return the car and
get and fill it up for amonth for them. The cost of that
alone, the gas is a deterrent. Yeah. The US built floating pier

(16:22):
that we've heard so much about willallow hopefully humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza
from the sea. There is movingfrom the port of Astad to Gaza.
Interesting because the two land connections betweenthe two between Gaza and Israel, Gaza

(16:45):
and Egypt have been shut down.Egypt shut down Rafa and you have what's
the the other entry point Jordan. No, no, no, I'm i
just the name of it coming infrom Israel into Guys. I forgot it.
It's about midway up the country. And how come Egypt isn't getting because

(17:07):
they don't want the refugees. No, no, no, I'm saying,
But how come protesters aren't screaming aboutEgypt not allowing humanitarian aid because it's all
about Israel. It's all anti Israel. Egypt is scared about two million refugees
coming in, so they basically haveshut off the border. Now Israel is
stopping a lot of those trucks comingin and says they're allowing trucks coming in,

(17:29):
which is a croc. You knowthey're allowing to a day and saying
it's unlimited, which is complete bs. So isn't that a war crime?
Yes, yes, yes, allright, let's move on. Good news
for your four oh one k allthree major stock indexes surged your record highs

(17:52):
yesterday after new data showed that inflationhad cooled in April after ticking up it.
I don't know if cools right now, but down from three point five
to three point four percent month overmonth. Yeah, I still may be
able to have a tax cut oran interest rate cut by the Feds,
which is going to happen, andit's not going to happen now. It's
going to happen again. Now ifthis keeps ongoing, if the economy,

(18:15):
if the Dow and Nasdaq are stayingvery strong, I think that's going to
hurt Trump. He still will saythis is the worst economy in the history
of the United States because of Biden. I guarantee he'll say that. And
Biden will come back and saying everybodywho wants a job has a job in
this country. Unemployment is at thelowest point it has been in seventy five

(18:37):
years. And look at the stockmarket and you'll see Trump going it's the
worst economy, He's the worst presidentyou've ever seen. Is it going to
resonate? I think so. Thereare people who are working and have never
had a better paycheck who think they'reunemployed because Trump is selling them they're in

(19:00):
employed. Well, today's a goodday to go look at your far oh
one k. Yeah, you'll feelgood about yourself. Just don't look at
it again, right too soon? What in the what in the wild wide
world of sports file? You knowMitt Romney who's known to be a fierce
Trump critic and not quite about it, Well, he voiced bewilderment at why

(19:23):
President Biden didn't pardon Trump as soonas the federal indictment came down. He
said he should have fought like crazyto keep them from moving forward. I
see, I so disagree with Romney. How do you pardon someone who has
tried to undo an election, whohas said, a legitimate federal election for

(19:47):
president, and you know other membersof Congress, et cetera is rigged that
the only way that there's a fairelection, as if he wins, undoes
democracy completely. I believe that Trumpis an enemy of democracy. I really

(20:08):
do calls anybody who disagrees with hima trader, and you're going to pardon
someone like that. I will tellyou that. I think that it was
strategic. Well. I think wassaying, listen, you're gonna make yourself
look big him be small, likeI'll help you out, little fella,
and I'm going to pardon you.And I'm the good guy here and the
stronger, bigger. Yeah. Idon't think so. I think it would

(20:30):
be accepting the crime of undoing afederal election. Absolutely not. Absolutely not.
Now, Nixon was pardoned by GeraldFord, and Nixon was argued about
him committing a felony but not interferingwith an election that he didn't do.
It was hiding the break into theDemocratic National Committee at the Watergate building.

(20:57):
Very very different and the country wasin a different place. So I disagree
with Romney. I think Romney isout of his mind. So if you
want to watch football on Christmas Day, you're gonna have to sign up for
Netflix. Netflix has bought the rightsto two NFL games for Christmas Day,

(21:17):
and that's the only place you're goingto be able to watch them. Do
we know how much they paid forhim? Any idea I mean just ridiculous
money, right, got it.I don't know that it was as much
as we've heard in the past, quite honestly, I was looking at this
story yesterday and it seemed like itmight be I'm looking to see if there
was a number. No, Idon't see a number, but I got

(21:41):
the impression that it was less thanwhat people it's seventy five million per game.
Oh that's not much at all.Well, that's a lot of money.
Not really, not for an NFLgame. I don't think so,
because when you look at the rightsthat the major networks are paying, it's
in the billions of dollars for sex, not even sixteen games. It stood

(22:03):
out as not as much as Iexpected. No, you're right, I
think I'm surprised that it is sosuch a small amount of money paying for
that, all right. Another breakproblem. Apparently on a barge slammed into
a pillar in Galveston, Galveston,Texas, yesterday, spilling oil into the
water. You've got this busy shippingchannel right there, going back and forth,

(22:27):
and it closed one of the roads, the only road a small little
neighboring island there. No injuries werereported, but again you've got that oil
in the water, which is questionto newsperson Amy. But for the Francis
Scott key Bridge story, which wasmassive, would this even be covered on

(22:48):
the news something like this? Probablynot, okay. I mean if it
was here it probably would be,but it's not. Probably not. It's
just our mindset. We are justfocused on anything that happens on a bridge.
I mean, this is a littletiny island, Pelican Island, and
there's a bridge connecting to it.How beut you're four people a year ago

(23:11):
across you don't want I've got aquestion, Amy, if not for the
previous accident of the shipping boat, would this be covered today or would the
second annual cornhole competition be covered todayon KFI? Definitely corner cornhole got got

(23:33):
it? Yeah? Absolutely good toknow. The former sheriff says he has
been scarlet lettered. Alex Vianueva plansto sue La County after an oversight panel
suggested that he be placed on ado not rehire list. The panel said
that vienn Aueva violated several policies againstdiscrimination and harassment and suggested that he'd be

(23:56):
put on that do not rehire list. Switched ving a way of his lawyer
says, that's a career killer.No, it's not, No, it
is not. First of all,he's a former d he's former elected sheriff.
Okay, I don't know if he'sstill in the sheriff's department. But
where do you go after your electivesheriff? Do you reapply and become an

(24:17):
under sheriff maybe a patrol sheriff outthere. So that's just stupid. I'd
like to know where he is now, if he's working for the Sheriff's department,
I'm guessing he's not. The otherthing is you can have all that
do not hire lists you want. This is an elected position. There absolutely
is no influence for that. Youcan still run, you know, even

(24:37):
with a do not hire list.So what and then on top of that,
that's an administrative call. So he'sgoing to sue and the court's going
to say, is an administrative decision. We don't get involved in administrative decisions.
The courts stay away from that unlessthere is something totally capricious or unconstitutional

(24:57):
about it. And they're gonna sayno because of what the allegations are and
because of what we view is missour missdeats. He's on a do not
hire, so the sheriff's department isgoing to hire him when he applies again
after being tossed out as sheriff.Come on, guys, let's get real.
The minute you leave, we're puttingthat in your file do not rehire.

(25:21):
Yeah yeah. Uh. Slovakia's Primeminister Robert Faiko did you see this
video yesterday? No? Okay,So he's in stable but serious condition after
being shot right in the stomach Ibelieve five times from a close range,
undergoing surgery because of an assassination attempt. Yeah, you know, really rocking

(25:47):
the Central European country, global condemnation. It's interesting. I mean, you
basically just had like those bike bikerack separators and somebody just of reaches over
it. It's crazy shoots at us. This this is a sitting prime minister.
Yeah, obviously the securies mean much. And as the guy was caught

(26:08):
and dragged away, he was screaming, it's all about his credit score.
Okay, what it's a Robert Ficojoke like fightco gosh, I didn't see
that. I'm sorry that was punny. Okay, first the Tropicana. Now
the mirage is coming down. TheMirage hotel and casino along the Las Vegas

(26:30):
Strip is shutting down July seventeenth forgood. I the Mirage credited with helping
transform Sin City into an ultra luxuryresort destination. They're going to do major
renovations in construction and we'll reopen intwenty twenty seven as the hard Rock Las
Vegas, featuring a hotel tower inthe shape of a giant guitar seven hundred

(26:53):
feet tall. Yeah. When Iwas well, Actually, I remember when
the Wind opened and it was thefirst to luxury hotel. Steve Win's an
interesting guy. You know, he'sblind and blind blind legally blind, I
don't know. I know he's blind. Also, there was a great story
he at one point he had anart gallery in the lobby. You could

(27:14):
go and see it, and Imean he had some priceless paintings. And
at one point there was a storyabout him punching through with his elbow because
he was a little bit off kilterwhen he was walking punched through a sixty
million dollar painting now had a bighole in it. That's something you would
do. Yeah, So I thinkthey restored it. But it's just a

(27:37):
great story. And he is.Uh. I gotta tell you the guy
is a visionary. Okay, we'renot. Did you just say he's a
visionary idea and he's blind? Yeah, I will tell you. So if
you think you see this hotel betweennow and twenty twenty seven, it's it's
god Well, like when you thinkyou see something but you don't see it,

(27:59):
Like it's off in the distance andyou go, hey, I think
there's a hotel going to be alandmark. It's going to be like Paris
Paris. But it's like, man, I don't think there's a hotel there,
but that's not. There's a guitar, and then you're, man,
is that a hotel? It's aguitar. And if you want a room
and you can't get initially, don'tfret over it, okay. KF I
