The Green Bay Packers are reportedly expected to work out a deal to keep head coach Matt LaFleur, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday (January 12).

LaFleur, 46, currently has one year remaining on his contract following the Packers' Wild Card Round loss to the NFC North Division rival Chicago Bears on Saturday (January 10) and team president Ed Policy said he would prefer not to have a lame-duck coach when addressing the situation last June. Green Bay blew an 18-point lead during its 31-27 loss to the Bears on Saturday, leading to even more speculation on LaFleur's future, with the coach confirming Sunday (January 11) that he was expected to speak to Policy soon and reiterating his desire to stay.

LaFleur has a 79-46-1 career head coaching record, which includes a 76-40-1 regular season record and a 3-6 postseason record. Green Bay has made the playoffs in six of LaFleur's seven seasons, but hasn't reached the Super Bowl during his tenure nor returned to the NFC Conference Championship Game since 2020, which was his second of back-to-back appearances.

LaFleur would be expected to be a top coaching candidate if the Packers decided to let him go with eight teams currently searching for head coaches.
