InfoWars, the controversial media outlet, is set to relaunch on Thursday (July 2) under new management. The Onion, a satirical newspaper, acquired InfoWars and plans to revive it with comedian Tim Heidecker at the helm. The relaunch comes after InfoWars founder, Alex Jones, declared bankruptcy in 2022 following a defamation lawsuit related to his false claims about the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. Jones was ordered to pay over $1 billion in damages, leading to the sale of InfoWars at auction.

The Onion faced legal challenges in acquiring InfoWars, but it has proceeded with a licensing deal allowing them to publish on the site and begin compensating the Sandy Hook families. Despite ongoing legal hurdles, The Onion is moving forward with the relaunch. According to Yahoo Entertainment, Heidecker, known for his work on _Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!_, will serve as the creative director and host a parody of Jones's original show.

The new InfoWars will feature original programming, including _The Jim Haggerty Show_ and a documentary-style film called _Birth of a Nation_. Heidecker expressed his vision for the platform in an interview with The Washington Post, stating that he aims to transition InfoWars into a destination for comedy and a new streaming platform.

Legal battles continue, as reported by Rolling Stone, with Jones's lawyers attempting to delay the takeover. However, The Onion remains committed to the relaunch, hoping to provide a fresh comedic perspective on the platform.
