Brother of the singer Denise Emmer and of trumpeter Guilherme Dias Gomes, Alfredo Dias Gomes debuted as a professional in 1978 in Hermeto Pascoal's band to record Cérebro Magnético. Also with Pascoal, Gomes performed in the II Jazz Festival of São Paulo and in the Rio Monterey Festival. His first solo work was the single "Serviço Secreto," recorded in 1985.
