b. Allan Richards Rice, c. 1900, La Porte, Indiana, USA, d. USA. In 1924 Rice teamed up with three other singers to form the Maple City Four. The other members of the group were Art Janes, Fritz Meissner and LeRoy ‘Pat' Petterson; all four came from the vicinity of La Porte, which is known locally as the Maple City, hence the name they adopted.
