Bennie Maupin is an American jazz composer and multi-instrumentalist who performs on bass clarinet, saxophones, and flute. His harmonically advanced "outside" improvisation style is balanced by a folk-like melodic sensibility. While best-known for playing a key role on Miles Davis' seminal Bitches Brew, Maupin was also a founding member of Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi and Head Hunters bands.
