Bert & Ray

Bert & Ray were the duo of Link Wray (aka Bert) on guitar and Ray Scearce on steel, who did a rare instrumental single for the Alpine label in 1960, "Night Life"/"Slow Drag." "Night Life" is a basic R&B-influenced chugger with a strong resemblance to Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk," while "Slow Drag" gets more into the Santo & Johnny mold, featuring Scearce's slow steel. Both tracks were reissued on the Link Wray compilation Slinky! The Epic Sessions 1958-1961. ~ Richie Unterberger
