Black Dub was formed in 2009 by producer, guitarist, and songwriter Daniel Lanois with bassist Daryl Johnson, drummer Brian Blade, and vocalist/keyboardist Trixie Whitley (daughter of the late singer songwriter Chris Whitley). The band began recording their rehearsals on audio and video while shopping for a deal, posting the videos on YouTube. The musical mixture is a heady, steamy, nocturnal brew of rock, New Orleans-inspired funk, soul, reggae, and Americana.
