Black Mambazo

Not to be confused with Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Black Mambazo means black ax), this was another group to enjoy fame during the 1950s, playing the kwele style pennywhistle; by placing the flute at an odd angle, they were able to produce a variety of novel sounds. In 1957, they enjoyed an international hit with the single "Tom Hark." ~ Leon Jackson
