Fields played earthy tenor saxophone on records by many blues and R&B performers, including singer Ricky Allen, for Age Records in Chicago in 1963, pianist Billy ‘The Kid' Emerson on some sides recorded in Memphis in 1954, on which Herman P. Blount (before he became Sun Ra) and Ike Turner also played, Earl Hooker, B.B. King and Otis Spann. In particular, Fields played for many years with Buddy Guy, recording frequently, his solos adding sparks to already dynamic performances.
