Charlie Munro

b. Charles Robert Munro, 22 May 1917, Christchurch, New Zealand, d. 9 December 1985, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Establishing himself as a good player of several members of the saxophone family while still in his teens, Munro moved to Australia where he began a long career as a respected studio musician. Although much of this career was spent working in the commercial surroundings of dance bands and music for the theatre, Munro's wide-ranging musical interests led him into effective contact with free jazz.
