b. Howard Hausey, 1939, Minden, Louisiana, USA, d. 1994. Hausey began his career as a baseball player until injury forced him to change direction. As Howard Crockett he wrote ‘Honky Tonk Man', ‘Ole Slew-Foot' and ‘Whispering Pines' for Johnny Horton. Crockett recorded for several small US country labels with musicians that included Chet Atkins, Floyd Cramer and the Jordanaires. Horton had taken the best songs, but Crockett did have some popularity with ‘If You Let Me'.
